  • Admission Criteria
    • Our admission policy ensures that every prospective resident receives a thorough and personalised pre-admission assessment to determine whether we can meet their needs safely and competently. We involve the individual, their family, and any relevant professionals in this process, aiming to provide clear, accessible information so they can make an informed choice about moving into the care home. Key steps in our process: Initial Enquiry: We log all enquiries, provide an information pack, and invite the prospective resident to visit the home. Pre-Admission Assessment: We assess physical, psychological, and social needs, ensuring any necessary equipment or specialist care can be arranged before admission. Capacity and Consent: We follow the Mental Capacity Act, ensuring the individual consents to the process or that decisions are made in their best interests if needed. Financial and Legal Clarity: Funding arrangements (private, social care, or NHS-funded) are confirmed upfront, and legal agreements are put in place before admission. On Admission: The resident is welcomed, introduced to staff, and supported to settle in. Key risk assessments (such as falls and evacuation plans) are completed within 12 hours, and personalised care plans are finalised within the first week. Ongoing Review: A formal review is held within 28 days to ensure the placement is suitable and to gather feedback on the resident’s experience. Our approach is person-centred, aiming to make the transition into the home as smooth, informed, and supportive as possible. We also conduct regular audits to maintain high standards and ensure all legal and regulatory requirements are met.

  • The team value the importance of visitors in the lives of residents and fully support their right to maintain contact with family, friends, and loved ones. The visitors policy ensures that visits are welcomed, safe, and respectful of each resident’s personal wishes.

    Key points of policy:

Open Visiting: Visitors are welcome at any time, unless a resident personally requests limited visits or there is an outbreak of infection, in which case the home will follow health and safety guidance.

Resident Choice: Each resident can decide who they want to see, and this choice will be recorded in their care plan. If a resident lacks the capacity to make this decision, the Mental Capacity Act will guide the process to ensure visits still support their best interests.

Visitor Registration: All visitors must sign in and out at reception and follow any health and safety procedures in place.

Privacy and Respect: Residents have the right to refuse visitors, and this will always be respected. Visitors will not be allowed into other residents’ rooms without express permission.

Food and Personal Items: Any food or personal items brought in for a resident must be declared to staff to ensure safety and dietary needs are considered.

Infection Control: Visitors who feel unwell, especially with symptoms of transmissible infections (such as flu, COVID-19, or norovirus), are asked to postpone their visit until they are well.

Conflict and Safeguarding: If a visitor’s behaviour poses a risk to residents, staff, or the home environment, management will intervene. In serious cases, visits may be restricted or conditions imposed, with advice from the Safeguarding Team if necessary.

Outbreak Management: In the event of a public health incident, the home will follow local and national guidance, offering alternatives like video calls or window visits if needed.

Feedback and Complaints: Visitors are encouraged to provide feedback and raise any concerns, which will be handled through the Complaints, Suggestions and Compliments Policy.

Our goal is to make every visit a positive, safe, and supportive experience for all.

My dad (with later stage dementia & recovering from aspiration pneumonia) was sent here from hospital.I witnessed him being given medication from the floor after he had spat it out.The nurse picked it up and put it back into his mouth.I thought this must have been a one off ,but she then proceeded to
do it to the second patient who spat hers out also. This was raised with management & I was told it wasn't good enough & the nurse wouldn't be staying at the home. The floor manager said she wished to get rid of her &wanted it in writing so it would help her do this (?!) Only to find a few days later her still administering meds. Many occasions dad was given the wrong thickness food/drink.I witnessed this a lot with other patients on restricted diets also. The chef would often shout at the staff (often agency)as they weren't checking before putting the meals in front of the patients.Dads swallow reflux deteriorated but they would not arrange for a specialist to help dad unless I pushed for it

I can't express enough gratitude for the exceptional care my father receives at Chelmsford Care Centre, in particular "Lillibet Zone" from the manager and her incredible team. After my father's brain haemorrhage, we were understandably worried about his recovery, but the manager and her team truly went
above and beyond to make him feel at home. They became like family to him, offering not only professional medical support but emotional care that gave him a sense of purpose and dignity. The dedication and kindness that the entire team shows him is beyond anything that we could hope for. It's clear that the team at Chelmsford Care Centre genuinely cares about each resident's well-being, and we as a family are so thankful for the positive impact they have had on my father's life. We will forever be grateful for the care and support he receives from everyone there.

I can't thank the care staff enough for the care my dad receives. He finally looks at ease with everybody. This happened within days of him being with you. You see him as my dad and not the awful condition he has and you see the world through his eyes. I will forever be thankful to you all.

My father was a resident at Chelsmford Care Centre for three months towards the end of 2024 and I have been delighted with the high standards of care and support he received during this time. The staff are incredible and treated my father with care, support and dignity. They are clearly passionate in
what they do and treat the the service users with warmth and kindness. They were always very welcoming and friendly when visiting and were able to converse about my father when required. The building itself is situated in a lovely country setting and very secure. It was always clean and well-maintained and the food always looked and smelt delicious.

My brother came into Chelmsford Care Centre after a long stay in hospital. Initially I was disappointed he hadn't returned to his previous care home but I now know he is in the right place. Staff are kind and caring, the room is kept beautifully clean and tidy. Staff are observant and problems he may
have are dealt with promptly. I feel that he is safe and treated with respect and dignity. Home is well led and having been a nurse myself, I'm pleased with the high standard of this care facility - outstanding.

My dad has been in Chelmsford Care Centre since February of this year and I am impressed by their communication and also the high level of care.
The staff are always welcoming and kind and they look after my dad very well indeed. The centre is very clean and my dad's room is always clean and tidy.
The main thing I am happy about is the way that staff have got to know my dad and treat him kindly and with respect. This gives me peace of mind as it is vital that my dad feels safe and cared for. The manager also has an open door policy and I experience her as very professional and also knowledgeable about my dad's care. She is also a kind, personable and caring person. Its important to me that senior staff lead by example with their own practice this is what happens at the nursing home.

My brother was transferred by the local hospital to the Care Centre at very short notice and against my wishes. On my initial visit, I waited while a carer prepared my brother and settled him into his room. When my brother was ready, a nurse went in to see him. She was very concerned about his physical
state and that special food hadn't come with him from the hospital, Nor was there any transfer/handover information. I went and brought food back from the hospital while the nurse dealt with sorting out medication.
I returned as the wing manager was going home but she returned into the home with me to sort out the food. I was impressed by the manager's approach but also by the duty nurse, who struck me as very focused on ensuring her patient's priorities were addressed.
Over several visits the main duty nurses have always been thorough and have come up with improvement suggestions of their own, and communicate updates and changes clearly, which is welcome.

This nursing home has the potential to be first class. It has an excellent infrastructure and by and large competent staff who are caring and loving, but there frequently seem to be too few to manage the needs of their residents properly all the time. My wife's primary need is for palliative care on
a surgical wound resulting from some traumatic failed surgery on her leg. It is of great importance that this wound be protected from the possibility of infection. However on more than one occasion, the carer cleaning her up after incontinence, have removed the dressing and failed to report to nursing staff the need for a fresh dressing, leading to a possibility of wound infection by Escherichia Coli, which could be disastrous. I have drawn attention to this concern and currently it appears under control but it needs constant vigilance.

My dad has recently completed a short recuperation placement in the Lilibet Unit at this excellent care centre following a stay in hospital. He has received fantastic care throughout at what has been an emotional time for all the family. The whole team - care staff, nurses, management, maintenance,
reception, laundry and kitchen - all went out of their way to make Dad's stay as comfortable as possible and as a family we couldn't have felt more supported throughout. The care team have shown kindness, compassion, respect and dignity at all times, along with the required bucketloads of patience. They are complete gems who do a very difficult job with a smile on their face always and with kindness for everyone. We cannot recommend the centre highly enough - Thank you all so much!

My mum has just left Chelmsford Care Centre having spent the past 7 months in their care. I cannot thank the management and staff enough for their wonderful, kind and compassionate treatment of my mum. They took the time to get to know her and welcomed us all, family and friends whenever we visited
her.
I received so much support and advice at a difficult time, and for that I am very grateful. It was a sad day when Mum finally left Chelmsford Care Centre to go to her new care home. Thank you all so much.

Entering a care home after a daunting experience sometimes feels like trying to see through s dense mist. My wife entered their care in July 2023.
As the mist clears away, I now see a truer picture of my wife's care and mind we had received. Unfortunately now moving on to a new provider, we hope to
receive the same pleasant experience as got from this home.
A pleasant and willing-to-help atmosphere greeted us, not easily seen at the time of entry, which became clearer later.
The lasting commitment of care from care/nursing staff to do their best, for our loved ones, becomes apparent soon after arrival, this also gave me comfort and support.
All of this was effortlessly performed without any fuss, with diligence to their work and surroundings.
All care given is acknowledged with compassion, reassurance, and a compassionate smile, banter is there to keep all residents' spirits up which is sometimes the best treatment.
If you are still feeling unsure about this home, check out with them about any concerns you may have.
We have a genuine reluctance to move away, from their care, and hope you will receive the same standard of excellent care.

I would thoroughly recommend Chelmsford Care Centre! I was impressed from the moment I entered the home. I felt a connection immediately. The management was so understanding and compassionate, that I felt my husband was in very good and experienced hands. My husband was given 1st class care, compassion,
and total dignity by very pleasant carers. Being allowed to stay over when I felt the need was wonderful. Consequently, I was with my husband until the very end, which was so comforting

I was lucky enough to be able to have my husband's care taken over, from me, by the wonderful staff here. Until he unfortunately passed away last week. My dad stayed at Chelmsford Care Centre for a few weeks in July 2023. As a family, we became concerned about dad's level of care so we arranged to speak with the manager. Sadly dad passed away before we had the meeting. On the morning of my dad's death, the ambulance crew raised a safeguarding concern
against Chelmsford Care Centre based on what they witnessed. The Council took up the complaint and fully substantiated the safeguarding concern. The Council stated that the nursing staff did not appear to take the appropriate action and escalate concerns in a timely manner. Chelmsford Care Centre used agency staff who may not have been familiar with the home's policy & procedures and the correct levels of training and competencies appeared to be lacking for overseas nurses. CQC was informed. The Council requested that medical staff and care staff were retrained and their policy & procedures updated. As a family, we are still very upset that our dad was neglected by Chelmsford Care Centre. Dad went into the care home to be looked after and to be safe - sadly he was neither safe nor cared for.

Chelmsford Care Centre, in particular 'Lilibet' zone of which I have experience creates a happy, safe and secure home for it's residents. Management, nurses, carers and facilities staff treat residents with kindness and an exceptional level of care. Nursing staff deal well with pre-existing medical
conditions and are alert to changes in physical and mental health. Meals are excellent, varied, balanced and well-cooked. Visiting family members are made to feel welcome. In all the home more than exceeds my expectations.

My mum is in Chelmsford Care Centre at the moment. After over four months in hospital, which was the most horrendous experience, this is an amazing care centre. They all genuinely worry for her care, whether it’s the carers, the nurses and doctors and even the dining staff. Everyone knows her by name
and everyone is so helpful. The rooms are made so you can make them as homely as you like. They always have something happening to keep everyone happy. So far we’ve had choirs singing, Halloween was literally a hoot with decorations and giggles. And Mum's even looking forward to Christmas if we aren’t home by then. Mum loves all the carers but her favourite is definitely one carer in particular as she’s so caring to Mum and all of our family members.

My mother was in this home for the last weeks of her life. At a difficult time, the staff worked tirelessly to ensure her experience was a positive one. Mum was convinced the staff were a mixture of saints and angels. Whenever the family visited, which was frequently, we were given updates, encouragement,
support and drinks. Our experience of this home was very positive.
