Our relative was in DurhamGate from 20th January until yesterday 19th March when he passed away through terminal illness. His time spent there was fabulous, he said it was his home and loved every moment. All of the staff from management to cleaners treated him with all the love and care anyone could
have wished for and helped to fulfil all his last wishes. This is truly a home for the residents. Everything about DurhamGate is first class. When our relative was taken out yesterday for the last time all the staff lined up in respect. It was a very emotional moment and we couldn’t thank them enough. They have truly supported us in every way, through a very rough time, a huge thank you to our Adore Care family.

When we were asked to select a care home for a friend to reside at we visited many and this one stood out by far in terms of cleanliness, food quality and choice, and facilities, not only in the public areas but also the residents' private rooms. All staff went over and beyond to ensure our friend was
happy and safe and to provide her with the best experience possible, nothing was a bother to any of the staff or management, they were all totally resident-centred and focused at all times. We can recommend this home to anyone without exception as a caring, very well-run and luxurious establishment with exceptionally high standards. Thank you for all you did not only for our friend but us too.

What a first-class establishment! I have never visited a care home like it, every aspect of it is excellent - spotlessly clean, wonderful food, a great range of activities and exceptional care given with empathy and real love by staff and management alike. Every resident is treated with respect, dignity
and most importantly as an individual. It is so special to be able to walk in and truly feel that you are visiting your friend in their own home as you are encouraged to help yourself to a hot drink and sweet treats. Nothing is a bother to anyone working at The DurhamGate. This model of care must be the future for all care homes!

My aunt has dementia but is a very proud and eloquent lady. She wasn’t happy at all where she was and I had concerns. I spoke to The DurhamGate and they assisted and listened and then assessed my aunt. They gave me all the help and advice I needed. I was delighted when they accepted her into their care.
She is a different lady, immaculate again and has her hair done regularly in the beautiful in-house salon. The staff are attentive and I have never found her sitting alone or abandoned in her room which was happening before.
The place is beautiful, the food incredible, the staff and management team excellent and I feel part of their family.
It is a pleasure to visit and I at least feel she is living as she deserves. It is literally a weight off my mind. Thank you DurhamGate.

The DurhamGate Care Home is one of the best I've ever seen, like a massive four-star hotel. The staff are so friendly and professional, the facilities are amazing and the food is fantastic. My father received amazing care during the weeks respute. Considering that he has been in four other care homes
for respite, this is the best and will definitely be back.

Absolutely wonderful place - I just can't recommend it and them highly enough. Speaking as the daughter of one of the first residents, they have made the transition for my dad, from living in his own house to living at The DurhamGate, so easy. After just a couple of weeks, he considered the staff to
be his extended family. He has been supported in transforming his room into his own, personal space and the attention to detail is incredible. The accommodation is smart and stylish but it is the staff who really make the difference. Nothing is too much trouble for them, whether that is providing comfort when my dad is feeling low, spending hours helping him to get to grips with his new TV or letting him teach them exactly how he likes his Pimm's making! Worth every penny to know my dad is in such a caring environment.

Our mum was one of the first residents to move into The DurhamGate and even though she's only been in six weeks, it feels like years. DurhamGate offers exceptional care in beautiful, homely surroundings. Every member of staff shows 100% commitment which is reflected in their care and support to all
residents and family members. You really couldn't find better facilities for your loved ones. The food is amazing, meeting individual taste and requirements. Thank you so much for welcoming our mum into your home, it is so reassuring knowing she is safe and secure with loving care surrounding her.

From the 4th of December 2023 when my mother entered The DurhamGate Care Home, I have found the management and staff very friendly and most obliging. There is nothing too much trouble for providing the highest standard of care for my mother or the family. I would highly recommend Adore at DurhamGate
in Spennymoor.

My brother recently transferred to DurhamGate Care Home and the difference in the quality of care he now receives is truly amazing! The phrase ‘chalk and cheese’ comes to mind. This is a newly opened facility - the staff - the facilities - and the food, are all fantastic. It’s like a posh hotel (honestly).
Just
in case you are wondering - I have no allegiances with any member of staff, I am not related to anyone there (apart from my brother) - and I found it by chance by searching the internet!
My brother is certainly benefitting from being at DurhamGate, and I now have peace of mind; that he is being cared for - ‘correctly’.

Karen Johnson

Job Title: Home Manager

Karen has over 30 years’ experience working within the care industry. Starting as a care assistant she was promoted to gain her first care home managers role at the age of 23! After relocating to Australia for three years, she returned to the care management role and went onto successfully commission four elderly care homes. Within the same organisation, she then worked as an Operation’s Manager supporting the groups homes. Due to the sale of the business, she returned to the management role and upheld an Outstanding rating by the Care Quality Commission.


Karen is committed to providing the residents with the best possible person-centred care. She has extensively travelled throughout the world but is now a self-declared crazy cat lady!
