Barchester Iris Court in Hitchin supports older people that require additional care and support in a stunning environment with breath-taking views of the surrounding countryside. Purpose built and opened in Spring 2024, this beautiful home provides care based on individual needs ensuring that care plans are crafted with input from the resident and their family.

Iris Court also provides specialist dementia care within their Memory Lane community for older people living with a dementia diagnosis. Trained staff are on hand to provide day to day living support and entertainment.

Delicious meals are prepared by the onsite chefs who cater to individual dietary requirements and design seasonal menus in consultation with the residents. Iris Court hosts themed dining experiences regularly, often inviting family and friends to join their loved ones.

Talented activities coordinators give residents the chance to engage in social activities that meet their interests. Regular outings, guest speakers, live entertainment, animal therapy and intergenerational activities ensure that there is a wide range of activities available each week.

This was my first visit to Barchester Iris Court. I was very impressed with everything I saw from the moment I got there. The rooms were immaculate, the staff were friendly and extremely attentive. As somebody who has worked in nursing homes, locally, for 17 years I can justly say this is the best I

From the moment nan moved into Barchester Iris Court, I was immediately impressed with the staff and facilities. Every member of staff is always warm, welcoming and genuinely cares about each and every resident. As someone who was always adamant that they wouldn't move into a care facility, nan has
settled in better than I could have hoped or imagined and I think that in itself is a testament to the staff and level of care delivered at Iris Court. Nan even refers to Iris Court as home now! I have already recommended Iris Court to those looking for a care facility for themselves or a loved one and will continue to do so in the future.

My father could not have been cared for better. He was encouraged to join in the many activities that they put on. Medical care could not have been better. General care could not have been better. General care could not have been better. Personal care could not have been better.
In the time he was
there, he considered it his home. As a visitor any time of day, coffee and cake always available on tap. Overall a dignified, safe and balanced way for my father to be cared for and we as a family never had to worry about him in anyway.

Barchester Iris Court has welcomed my mother with open arms. My mother, who has Alzheimer's, was nervous about coming but she has settled in and has made friends with some of the other residents. Mum was unable to live alone and now she has more than just new friendships, she is busy every day rather
than just sitting on her own at home. The activities program is varied and they cater according to the residents' suggestions. They also prompt the residents to join in each time.
Everyone is friendly and welcoming and they all get to know the family who visits too.
The food is good and there is a variety of dishes, the main being at lunchtime.
Any time I have had a worry about Mum (which is to be expected at the beginning) I have been listened to and the carers have offered feedback on her progress.

The first impression is of warm, pleasant atmosphere. Staff are very able and there is a constant buzz of happy movement and plenty of sport, in a chair as well. Altogether, a pretty swimmingly, active, pleasant place, super garden, of course, very accessible - with rooms garden doors.

From the first time I visited Barchester Iris Court, along with other members of our family when we were considering various options, it was immediately clear that this care home would be perfect for my mum to move into and reside there in comfort and peace. Once I and the family had shown Mum the details
of Iris Court (including numerous photographs of the general and specific facilities on offer), she was very enthusiastic about going there and taking up residence. And it wasn't long after moving in that Mum stated that 'here was her new home' as she had immediately taken to the members of staff who, without exception, welcomed her into 'their home'. In visiting to see Mum over her time at her new home, I and the family, together with her friends, have seen a remarkable improvement in her health, well-being and general demeanour. Long may it continue and many thanks to all the extremely friendly and considerate staff at Iris Court for making Mum and I so welcome. Utterly amazing all round!

I visited my friend in this home recently and was amazed by the facilities. The home is nestled in a quiet area, away from the hustle and bustle of the traffic. Staff are very caring and helpful. Excellent food service for the residents. Rooms are very clean, spacious and value for money. Garden and
outside areas are spacious and safer for the elderly with lots of sunny areas. Plenty of activities for the residents and visiting family and friends. Overall very good home and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a safe short-term or residential stay.

I visited my aunt today, the staff were extremely welcoming, I was offered cake and coffee on arrival. The home is immaculate and is more like a five-star hotel. My aunt is very happy and says all of the staff are very helpful and that the meals are lovely, she said that she never wants to leave. This

Simply put, Iris Court is a superb new care home. My Mum needs more care than is possible at her home. Until now she has had no desire to move to a care home but after less than two weeks in Iris Court, she surprised me by saying that this is now my home and her house should be sold! This is all due
to the exceptional care provided by absolutely everyone at Iris Court, the quality of the accommodation, the first-class meals and the utterly relaxing environment for residents and visitors. The whole team make everyone feel so welcome; it makes us feel like we are joining a large family and totally happy that Mum is enjoying the best of care. It is as good for me and my family as it is for Mum, something I had not expected. Brilliant!

I came to Iris Court today to cut a friend's hair as her personal hairdresser. I was treated so well I was offered tea, coffee and cake. The staff are lovely and very attentive. I am looking forward to coming back again soon. My friend is really happy and settling in well.

Hi, I am Babu the Senior General Manager for Iris Court Care Home. I am so proud to be able to lead a team of great carers at this beautiful new care home.


My vision is to build on the foundations that have been handed over to me and create a wonderful and person-centred care facility to aid the lives of all of our residents.


We will not only provide the highest levels of care in a premium environment but will also deliver an individual plan for every resident to ensure that their lives are truly enriched.


I have worked in the care sector for over 15 years now, beginning as a carer. I loved the role so much that I have worked in many different positions achieving a Level 5 NVQ in leadership and management to the regional director within the same company I also won the prestigious award of care home manager today where I find myself in the realm of this beautiful new home.


I am originally from the Pearl of the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka which itself is a beautiful part of the world. I am a very proud husband and father to two beautiful daughters who motivate and support me every single day. It is this blessing that makes me a better leader as I am always striving to ensure that the way I would want my own loved ones to be cared for is exactly what my team and I will do every day.

Hi, my name is Tash and I am the deputy manager here at Iris Court I have worked in the care sector for over 14 years. I started as a carer many years ago and fell in love with the industry. I also studied in the industry and a very proud day for me was my graduation from the University of Coventry where I achieved a BA with honours in social care and health studies. This gave me a great platform to advance my career in the care sector.


During my time as a carer, I loved nothing more than sitting with my residents and chatting with them about their lives. I always found it so fascinating to hear their stories regarding the kind of life they led, the families they had and historic chapters of world history that they lived through.


Outside of my work I am married and am incredibly dedicated to family life. We spend a lot of time together socialising and enjoying family get-togethers. When I have time set just for me there is nothing more that I like than a bit of retail therapy and I can escape into a day that's all for me.


I am incredibly proud to be part of the opening of Iris Court, and I cannot wait to start our journey with our residents and provide our excellent person-centred care to enrich every day of their lives.

Previously, I've dedicated myself as a Senior Care Assistant in a Dementia Unit and as an Administrator in Mental Health Nursing Homes, equipping me with a deep understanding of the needs and nuances of compassionate care.


Outside of work, my heart belongs to my cherished family. With 35 years of marriage under my belt, my husband and I are proud parents to two wonderful daughters and doting grandparents to two grandchildren. Family gatherings are a cornerstone of my life; I find immense joy in connecting with my siblings, nieces, nephews, and their growing families.


In my downtime, you'll often find me exploring new destinations, lost in the pages of a captivating book, or immersed in the melodies of my favourite music. Transitioning into the care sector was a deliberate choice driven by my desire to work directly with people. My journey began at Catering College, where I earned my NVQ while honing my skills in a nursing home setting. Through an enriching apprenticeship, I immersed myself in competitions, even catching the eye of culinary legend Michael Roux, who graciously endorsed my talents.


Beyond the kitchen, I've embraced diverse roles, from captivating children as an entertainer to orchestrating bingo sessions - a testament to my vibrant spirit. Notably, I savoured the opportunity to train at Jamie Oliver's renowned restaurant in Milton Keynes, enriching my culinary repertoire.
