This attractive and professionally managed care home rated ‘Outstanding’ in March 2020 by the Care Quality Commission, has been supporting the local communities of Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire and Dacorum for over ten years. Established and purpose-built with an excellent reputation, St Pauls Care Centre offers quality nursing, residential, convalescent and dementia care in an accessible but peaceful location.

An award-winning home manager and deputy manager have been leading the home since the day it opened, and a stable and skilled staff team provide responsive, compassionate, high-quality care to meet the changing and individual needs and expectations of each resident. The home does not use any agency staff and new staff are often recruited through direct referrals. The family ethos and the warm relationships achieved are greatly valued by both residents and visitors, and make St Pauls Care Centre a special place to live. The home is strongly connected to the wider community.

Comfortable bedrooms have their own en-suite shower, toilet and washbasin and are located in smaller unit living areas. There is a wide choice of day rooms including lounges, separate dining areas, a cinema room, hair salon, quiet lounge, and pub.

The charming garden is a favourite with residents, with its spacious areas for them to relax or socialise with friends and relatives.

The facilities have been designed to enhance resident care and quality of life, to optimise cleanliness and help minimise the spread of any infections; this includes wood effect flooring, hand washing facilities in every room and the use of hand gel dispensers throughout the home.

My 93-year-old father was very ill and was rapidly deteriorating. Management at home was becoming difficult for everyone. We made a considered decision in finding him a local nursing home where help was at hand. We chose St Pauls Care Centre. It provided a friendly, warm, safe and clean environment
under an umbrella of well-organised management where he was afforded dignity to the end. He was resigned to dying. He chose his moment to slip away and perhaps did so at St Pauls because he was relaxed. He was well looked after, and we were making regular visits, which will have comforted him and reassured him that everything was in order. Not many of us can hold down a conversation and entertain guests over lunch at the grand old age of 93 in a freshly ironed shirt two days before dying! Thank you so much to everyone at St Pauls.

I have only visited my friend when she was moved into St Pauls Care Centre. Over the last two years, I have visited her twice when she was rushed into hospital and in two other nursing homes. Without a doubt, St Pauls has been the most welcoming for visitors. The kindness that staff show in looking
after their visitors, the positive kindness we receive in the reception with a drink of our choice is like 'manna of heaven'! Most importantly, my friend is just a different person, she is more alert and she is eating well and I cannot thank you enough.

We chose St Pauls Care Centre for my father who had suffered a severe stroke and needed nursing care. Throughout his stay, until his passing away he was treated with compassion and respect. The nursing staff were excellent, support from the care team was well managed and all of the wider staff we came

The staff I have been privileged to meet at St Pauls Care Centre have always exhibited the highest degree of capability in the work they do. There is a comfortable atmosphere generated by a friendly staff which benefits both residents and visitors alike. The carers and nursing staff have met all my
requirements for the care of my wife and have always answered my concerns forthrightly and quickly. Sympathy for me, when it is required, is generously given. I have seen first-hand the high quality of care given to my wife and other residents. In my absence, that dedication and skill gives me absolute confidence that she will always be perfectly safe and cared for in the hands of these highly motivated, professional people who work diligently, either singly or in a small team, according to the task presented. The services provided at all levels are of the highest order.

Prior to being a resident at St Pauls, my husband was bedbound for 11 weeks. A week after moving into St Pauls, he was walking with a frame - the family were pleased to see him so happy and relaxed every time we visited. He got on really well with the other residents and the staff, who treated everyone
as they would their own family members. I found St Pauls to be such a happy, warm and welcoming place and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who may need to look for a place for their relatives.

St Paul's Care Centre is superbly established and designed with both residents and staff in mind. The staff from reception, carers, assistants, nurses and maintenance personnel are professional, polite and courteous, where nothing is too much trouble. The standard of hygiene is very good, and the gardens
are well maintained.
My only observation for improvement would be the car park spacing and bays being too small.

My mum has been at St Pauls for a few months now. She is well looked after by the lovely, friendly staff; they keep myself and family well informed, and at Christmas was even given a gift/present - a lovely, personal touch. She is always clean, and although she cannot express herself, I know she is
happy and content. The rooms are really lovely, and overall a great clean environment. Thank you to all staff.

The staff are extremely patient and caring. My husband has vascular dementia and can be very difficult, but they are always so good with him. He still has his manners though, and when he has been difficult, he does apologise! The food is so good as well. We are so lucky that he is well looked after.

We had to move my mother from her existing care home as her needs had become more complicated. At St. Pauls, she was welcomed with a smile, and although she has been a challenge, she is now happy, warm, clean and settled. The staff are endlessly patient and cheerful, and we are never made to feel in
the way when we visit. I would particularly commend the activities programme, which Mum loves.

My aunt is cared for extremely well, and know if I am unable to see her that I can phone and check how she is. Her nurses and carers are always so caring and helpful. My aunt always looks clean, even though she is bed-bound. St Pauls really cares about its residents.

Our mum lived at St Pauls for about a year and a half, and during this time, she was looked after so well and treated with respect and dignity, which was very reassuring to myself and my family. She developed very close relationships with a number of the team there, and we really appreciate the time

Having been unable to view the home prior to accepting a place, we were pleasantly surprised when we were finally able to see rooms/lounge/dining room. Staff are friendly and efficient and try to include dementia patients as much as possible in activities. The odd item of laundry went missing, but no
big deal. They make a fuss and beautiful birthday cakes for each resident's birthday, which is lovely.

From the moment I first contacted the home, I was spoken to with compassion and professionalism from the manager, reception and staff. Throughout my father's stay, I was informed of each part of his care plan and phoned regularly with general updates. He was treated with care from all senior and support
staff, which made his last months happy and comfortable.

Although it took my mum a while to settle in the home, she now classes it as her home and calls the staff her family. We have been made to feel very welcome every time we visit, and everyone has been very friendly. Mum is well looked after, and all her needs are met. It's peace of mind to know she is

The staff at St Pauls are very engaged, caring and ensuring all of the residents are very well looked after and happy. The facility is spotlessly clean. Those residents who need some extra care look immaculate. They welcome the residents to make their rooms look like home. They take time to talk to

The level of service/care my mother received was very good. All staff are very caring and attentive. The family was satisfied. The communication from the office/management staff and carers/nurses was very informative. My mother's care was very good, and felt she was as happy as she could have been.

Yasmin has been a dedicated member of St Paul’s Care Centre since 2011. In March 2021, she was promoted from Unit Manager to Deputy Manager. Having a diploma in Adult Health Nursing and Midwifery, Yasmin is committed to excellence and passionate about ensuring that St Paul’s delivers the highest standard of care to all residents. Yasmin was promoted to Home Manager in December 2024.
