I am completely happy with the care my wife receives in this care home. It is always clean, warm and inviting. The staff are given the time to interact with residents and provide stimulation. My wife has been a resident for 5 years and at no time have I been less than completely satisfied with her care.

Could not have wished for better. We were fortunate that there was a vacancy at that care home at the time of our enquiry.
A family run home with personal supervision.

Whilst my mother was there she enjoyed her time in the company of those within this establishment. A caring and nice place which is not too big.

We would like to say how well Merryfields as a whole unit looked after mum. Nothing was ever too much trouble.
They were always friendly and had time for a chat.
Mum had a massive stroke on 03.05.17 and never regained consciousness.
They loved and cared for her until she died on 06.05.17.
I can't
praise them enough.

We very much liked the homely atmosphere of Merryfields when we viewed it late 2015 ahead of my mother moving there in April 2016. Another key factor was the kindly and welcoming attitude of the staff. Over the last ten months, we have noticed most staff show great pride in their job. We have been impressed
with their patient and loving attitude towards the residents. The staff have also been very friendly and helpful towards us.

My mother-in-law was diagnosed with terminal cancer and reluctantly left her flat to move into Merryfields. Here she was very well looked after in a clean and comfortable room of her own. The staff were all friendly, caring and patient and although mum would obviously rather have still been at her flat,
the family all felt that the care she received at Merryfields was far better than anything else we could have arranged. This high standard of care continued until mum passed away in March.

My mother has Dementia and even though she lived close by and I saw her daily and she had carers she was still very lonely and confused. Since going into Merryfields she has improved, made friends and is well looked after by the friendly and caring staff in providing her quality of life greatly.

Dad was only at Merryfields a short time, from our first visit we were made welcome and the transition from hospital to the care home was dealt with sympathetically and efficiently. The staff were exemplary with the level of care given.
I felt at ease after every visit in the knowledge that dad was
looked after and all his care needs were dealt with. The staff were friendly and professional. I could not have asked for more.

Our mother came to this care home in March 2013 and stayed there, contentedly until her death in June 2015. She has always hated the idea of going into a care home but when her dementia worsened, we took this course. We are so relieved and feel so lucky to have found Merryfields for her. Our mother's
anxiety and unhappiness fell away, she enjoyed the staff's care and attention, she smiled, ate and slept well, liked outings. The staff always seemed loving, friendly, respectful with her and all the other residents. We, as guests, always felt welcomed. The atmosphere was warm, homely good home made cooking!, comfortable and comforting. I can't express my gratitude enough for the way our mother was looked after during those last years.

Merryfields looked after my mother for nearly two years. She had a lovely bright airy room with en suite bathroom and we were able to put many of her personal possessions and pictures in the room, making it feel just like her own home. She was suffering from dementia and, at times, as the disease progressed,
she could become quite aggressive because of her confusion but she was always treated with dignity, respect and indeed love and the staff could not have been more professional. When we visited we were invariably greeted with a warm welcome, a cup of tea or coffee and often some home made cake which made us feel that we were part of the family. The staff were always full of fun and very caring and there were always activities going on during the day which Mum could join in if she wished, they even organised monthly outings in the good weather. Sadly Mum passed away in December but, again, all the staff were kind and supportive throughout this difficult time with a large group attending her funeral and sending me a beautiful bouquet of roses afterwards. Merryfields was certainly like home from home and we couldn't have found anywhere better. I cannot recommend the care here highly enough.

As soon as I enter tea/coffee/biscuit/cake is offered. So clean. No smells all staff friendly. Staff take residents out weather permitting. So caring nothing too much trouble. Staff/attended my sister's funeral. Sent me flowers. I was overwhelmed my sister had a happy time there and chose her own company.
However the home offered various events to take part in. Could not be bettered.

Very friendly and caring staff - the office door is always open! There are large new rooms with good en-suite bathrooms and some older rooms with varying levels of space in the en-suite facilities. Meals are very good and they constantly offer visitors like me tea and biscuits. They have a good range
of morning, afternoon and evening activities and try to get a large group out somewhere every month in the spring to autumn period.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.761)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.761) out of 10 for Merryfields is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.861 for Merryfields is calculated as follows: ( (93 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 4.861

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Merryfields is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
