Upon arrival the place was immaculately clean and fresh smelling, my Aunty was bathed, dressed, and looking a lot better than the other care homes had her - smelling of urine, faeces, and big scabs everywhere. My Aunty is well looked after here. The staff are very helpful and welcoming. Nothing is too
much trouble for them.

My sister is being nursed at Kavanagh for around 2 years. Not many people could care for her due to not understanding the condition. Kavanagh nursing staff have cared for my sister so well. Staff help me maintain a relationship with my sister and also get me involved in activities. I am always made
to feel welcome. They are the best people in the world.

This was my son's first experience of respite care. Staff were wonderful at making him feel welcome. My son has complex care needs and these were all addressed with great care and dignity. His stay was during lockdown so he couldn't experience the full range of activities but was stimulated each day
with indoor activities. He is happy to go back again which says it all and I would be happy for him to stay there again.

I visit a friend each Monday at Kavanagh Place in Kirkdale. I find his room is exceptional with every need. All of the staff are so respectful and make me welcome when I visit Monday's and Friday's. It has a warm and homely feel to the home. The care I see is unbelievable and they are a dedicated team,
nothing is a trouble. I feel I should make the management know that they should be proud of the valued and dedicated team who look after my best mate.

My wife is happy and well looked after by a very friendly and helpful staff who are all very approachable. Also, she is always out and about on trips out which is very important to my wife. The home is always very clean, as is my wife's room.

The care and support given to both my husband and myself is outstanding. I always feel welcome and free to ask staff and management anything. I am always kept up to date with review dates and any changes to diet or care plans. His room and personal care is always clean, tidy and fresh.

Excellent care home, very understanding and helpful staff who do genuinely care for the residents; it's not just their job, they really treat residents like their own family members. Always spotlessly clean and well maintained. The home feels like a home from home. Residents (and their families) are
encouraged to decorate bedrooms to personal taste to make them feel more at home. Residents have days out and are entertained during the day. An all-around excellent care home, nothing to fault.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.851)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.851) out of 10 for Kavanagh Place is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 5.000 for Kavanagh Place is calculated as follows: ( (48 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.851 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kavanagh Place is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.4 = 0.476

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
