Our sister looked happy and well cared for. There was only one problem when a member of staff didn't know she was on a diet and was feeding her a cooked breakfast. Apart from that, can't fault the caring staff.

I have told so many people about the care that my sister has received at St Clare's. She settled in well and has been made to feel welcome and cared for. She has regular hairdressing appointments which I'm sure she enjoys. The carers and nurses are all very friendly when I visit and mostly, they know
about my sister's needs. I particularly enjoy my weekly visit in the pod - what a great idea this was and well put together. I am very grateful for this being created in order to allow safe visits. I also appreciate the staff member's time to sit with her through the visits as it makes it easier to communicate with her. We are kept updated with health reviews and when more clothing or toiletries are required.

Since lockdown, staff have been exceptional in letting us know what has been going on and arranging FaceTime contacts and, later, secure face to face contact.

Difficult to say because of the Covid-19 Lockdown. Overall I'm very satisfied with the home's care. They have introduced remote access to give relatives ways of keeping in touch and their ethos, in general, seems exemplary.

This was our first visit to the care home. We visited my sister accompanied by my brother in law who showed us around. The staff were very friendly and appeared kind and considerate. The condition of the home was excellent and the facilities impressive. My sister was well attended and appeared to be
very happy with her care. I shall be happy to go again and visit. I hope the standards maintain.

I am sadly in the process of moving my 85-year-old mum to another care home this week. She has been at St Clare’s since October 2015. During this time, she has benefitted from some continuity of care and staff have accommodated her eating habits and made an effort to get to know her. However, St Clare’s
is large, more like a mid-range hotel than home from home and there seems to be a lack of activities and not much in the way of homely touches. I’ve found there is a noticeable turnover of staff, a lack of communication between staff and management, no reception at weekends, staff do not have high enough standard of English to make themselves understood on the phone, and morale seems generally low. Recently I received a generic letter regarding something which specifically concerned my mother. It was this that finally made me lose confidence in St Clare’s as I had to continually contact management about this matter and felt uninformed and unsupported. Disappointing.

I wanted to leave some positive feedback regarding the new management team at St Clare's and the changes that have been made. I have read the few last reviews and find this unfair. The new manager has seemed to have highlighted old issues and practices from the past and is dealing with these in a professional
manner while keeping relatives up to date.

The activities has had a totally new refit with a new activities programme introduced and looks great!

There is no receptionist at the weekend but a call bell puts you through to a senior member of staff that lets you in and will deal with any enquires.

I have no concerns whatsoever with my relative's level of care and no hesitation in recommending St Clare's Care Home.

St Clare's is extremely clean.
Food is adequate, served in a nice dining room.
Unfortunately a lack of English speaking staff.
The staff are constantly changing.
No consistency. This is disturbing for residents.
Lack of suitable activities. No flowers or colour.
No stimulation which is needed.
No
staff at weekends.
It's difficult for residents to communicate with nurses who don't have good English.
No suitable therapies or activities.
See CQC report.

Dear reviewer
I am the new manager at St Clare's I have been in post since April, I would very much appreciate the opportunity to meet you to discuss the issues that you have raised.
I would like to reassure you that many of the above issues have already been addressed, maybe we could arrange a date for you to come in for a cup of tea and I could show you the improvements.

The current QCC Report was shocking. The manager and manager above him
Have both left. While the staff do their best and the grounds and home are spotlessly clean. The constant changing of staff over the last five years is very disturbing for residents who need consistency.
Unfortunately, the reception
is unmanned at weekends.
There is a lack of colour or any stimulation.
There is minimal English speaking staff
The hygiene and cleanliness is excellent, as is the food. Visiting is open at any time
But no restrictions for dementia residents leaving with visitors by accident. This happens often. Other than a note in the door.

I attended the St Clares Christmas tea and was amazed at the detail and professionalism of all the staff concerned. The presentation of the food was outstanding, the entertainment was just right for a Christmas party for people of 80 plus years. The whole afternoon was a great success. Thank you, St
Clares.

Of course, had to ring to get in, asked to see resident - a welcome smile, dining room also spik and span. Ongoing up to residents room was nicely intercepted and addressed to make sure and offered refreshments by a carer, who also checked the resident, who has been beautifully looked after these 17
years in this home. A four-star hotel could not offer better care.

My mother has been a resident at St Clare's since June 2015. During that time Mum has always been treated with respect and I have felt fully confident that her welfare is in good hands. The 2 staff who provide various activities for the residents on most days means that there is often something happening
which keeps Mum occupied and interested in the general life of the home. She has a group of friends and they enjoy being together, especially when they go out on an outing. The general atmosphere of St Clare's is one of caring and cheerfulness which comes from the staff who have a deep commitment to the care of the residents.

My mother has been at the home for several years. The staff are caring and patient with her and work with her dementia.

All the staff care for her with the respect she deserves. When I visit she is well groomed and appropriately dressed. She interacts with staff well and this relationship shows

that she feels comfortable at St Clare's Care Home.

Following a bad fall at Christmas, I needed to find full residential care for my mother who suffers from dementia. Being on the same site as the assisted living accommodation she was already living in, made St Clare's an obvious choice, given their experience with dementia care.

The management and

staff have been wonderful getting her settled and cared for after hospital. They have managed to get her knitting again and enjoying life.l They are hugely pro-active in all areas and are warm, friendly, caring and above all, patience with my mother and all the other residents from what I can see. Highly recommended.

Both my husband and I are delighted with the care his mother is receiving at St Clare's Care Home. It is a lovely warm and welcoming environment to visit with the staff being very approachable.
We also feel that mother-in-law responds well to the warmth of the staff and the pleasant, light-filled
spaces. The best compliment I can give is that I would highly recommend this home to anyone!

Our overall impression is that St Clare's goes all-out to provide the best possible care for all the residents and their families. There is an open, and welcoming, atmosphere, and our overwhelming impression is that the home is very well run. Our relative is very pleased with the staff's care, support
and respect, and we have complete confidence for her well-being. The care home is part of a newish estate, built in attractive parkland, which includes retirement homes and a farm.

My wife who has Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease has been resident at St Clare's for 5 months. I have been very impressed with the dedication of her carers who are invariably polite and warm hearted. Unfortunately, my wife's speech is very limited and that has severely reduced the contact she is
able to have with other residents. Moreover, the level of their spoken English has sometimes limited the contact she is able to make with care staff. I have always been warmly welcomed as a visitor and staff are unfailingly helpful in meeting my needs. Two minor criticisms 1) I am rarely able to get a report of how my wife has been since my last visit (key worker scheme) 2) Performers not able to draw residents with participation.

Reply from Christian Estrada, Home Manager at St Clare's Care Home

Thank you for the positive review. Any feedback is vitally important to us. We always aim for residents and relatives experiences meet their satisfaction. We have highly skilled and caring staff, some have originated from different places, bringing with them a wealth of knowledge, good experiences, and cultures. Most residents find their company comforting and reassuring during one to one and when they become involved with meaningful activities that would suit their individual needs and interest. Three various entertainers are coming to St Clare's to perform in August and I hope that you find the time and join your wife to attend each performance and hopefully draw everyone’s interest and enjoyment. The organisation continues to explore ways in developing other means of engaging communication, not only focusing on the verbal but through other more effective nonverbal means. Thank you as well for accepting our invitation this month to discuss the progress of your wife’s condition since coming to us in February.

The home treats my husband with dignity. They cope with his mental state well and ensure that the family are kept aware of any problems. My husband was in a very poor state mentally when he moved to St Claire's Care Home. The staff show endless patience. They also cope with his complex physical needs.
The rooms are always clean, the food is good and medication given under supervised conditions. He is asked if he wants to join in activities but respected when he prefers to sit quietly. The family feel blessed that St Claire's are able to look after him.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.354)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.354) out of 10 for St Clare's Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.437 for St Clare's Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (43 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 4.437

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.917 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Clare's Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.417

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
