Rivermere Care Home was taken over by Avery Healthcare at the start of 2017, and the new management has quickly set about transforming the fortunes of the home. Rivermere provides residential, respite and dementia care.

The home also welcomes couples and friends who wish to live together.

Situated close to the town of Sevenoaks, the home has been brought into line with the group's overarching care philosophy.

Nestled within a picturesque landscape, the home provides person-centred care for older people and those with dementia and its associated conditions.

Residents are encouraged to take full advantage of the home's facilities which are available to them daily. These include cosy lounges and bistro areas which create the perfect social environment, a beauty salon where residents can treat themselves to a haircut or nail treatment, a well-stocked library to indulge into a book or alternatively a cinema room to a catch a film in. The well-being team host regular activities in the activities lounge where all residents are encouraged to take part.

I had a really super stay at Rivermere. The staff were very caring the whole place was spotless and the food was very good. Everybody seemed happy and people were treated with dignity. The facilities were excellent.

My visit to see my father showed that the staff at Rivermere Care Home care very much for the well-being of the residents. The home itself is very welcoming and with a very tidy and cared for appearance. The food which was served to my father for lunch seemed of high quality. The atmosphere is one of
calmness and I was impressed with the overall facility. My only feedback is that the activities seem limited while this is completely understandable with staff recruitment.

I could not wish for my mum to be in a better home. She has loved and is counting to enjoy the care comfort and interaction this home provides. The manager, management, receptionists, housekeeper, kitchen staff, entertainers and carers are amazing. I cannot thank Rivermere enough personally for the
wonderful end chapter they have and are continuing to give Mum even during the difficult pandemic months.

Mum had a good week at Rivermere. The staff were so lovely and made her feel welcome. Her only issue is dinner is served too early which we appreciate suits other residents. Also, there is no one around at the weekends and no activities which did upset her. She said she has assisted someone on Saturday
as no one was around. She really enjoyed the activity today (Tuesday) and the outing to the garden centre last week.

Thank you for your feedback, we are so glad your mum had a good week here at Rivermere. It was a pleasure to have her stay with us. Our serving times are set for hot dinners; however, we understand some residents may like a later meal. In these cases, we also offer sandwiches which can be made during the set dinner time and placed in the fridge in resident rooms for later, if that is their preference. With regards to activities, we have 2-3 activities on daily and many other ad hoc activities too. There are very rare weekend activities that may not be on and residents spend a lot of time socialising. However, the rest of the week was full of daily activities and included evening socials and games. We are glad your mum was made to feel so welcome and enjoyed her outing too, and hope she visits us again.

Rivermere is an excellent care home with outstanding staff and good facilities. However several years of operating with reduced staffing levels have left a mark and the strain is particularly evident in the activities, catering and housekeeping areas. Taking account of the high fees paid by residents
there is lost ground to be recovered.

I cannot fault the care, kindness and consideration, from all the staff, shown to me during my two-week stay. The food has been exceptional and always well presented. I was sad I was unable to meet my visitors in the garden, but understand it was Covid rules!

I feel like my mum is staying in a high-quality boutique hotel. The lounge and bistro are excellent, as is my mum's room. The staff are excellent. I was so concerned about my mum going into a home, but I am so happy, and she is definitely happy there. I would highly recommend Rivermere.

My dad has Alzheimer’s. With my mum’s health deteriorating it meant she could no longer care for him at their home of 59 years together. As soon as my sister and I saw Rivermere we were immediately aware of its warm, caring and homely environment. Well organised and professionally run but at the same
time great focus on accommodating individual resident's needs and how life can continue to be happy and stimulating day to day. The staff are well trained, really attentive, interactive and friendly. It has been a very difficult time to start the journey of finding the right home during Covid restrictions but Rivermere made the process simple and less stressful. Our dad was made to feel so welcome, comfortable and safe from the moment he arrived. He has settled in really well. We are much more confident it was the right decision and relieved of the constant worry now that he is there.

My first impression was a warm and friendly atmosphere. I have found this is borne out in all departments. My husband first went for a respite stay but is now a resident as I know he is getting the best care available. I appreciate the special qualities required by the caring team to carry out their
tasks with friendly efficiency and always find time for a chat. It is made sure new recruits fit in with this ethos. Daily activities are encouraged and the programme offered by a dedicated team is varied.
Everyone at Rivermere goes the extra mile to make both residents and visitors happy.

My mum had a fall in early July and was not recovering well at home with me, not eating, fed up in her own company frustrated with her restrictions.
She requested respite so my husband and I visited the home and were very impressed with the Customer Service Manager's details to providing in-depth information,
life in the home, the great facilities and lovely rooms, garden, dining area, lounge.
The carers are all very friendly, helpful, and caring, cheered my mum up with chats.
The food choice is of great quality and my mum soon started to enjoy her food and put weight on. At first, she ate in her room but was gradually encouraged to attend the dining room where she got to chat with other residents. My mum also started attending activities and thoroughly enjoyed them. Her mobility improved, her mood and appetite.
She was there 4 weeks and says hand on heart it was the best thing she could have done to improve her all round mood and needs.
All family members that visited were very pleased with the care.

My mother is a resident in Rivermere care home. The staff do a lot for her by way of organising events such as sing-songs, quizzes, scrabble events etc but, as she has dementia, she has no recollection of these events when I see her. However, she is always happy when I see her either in a covid-proof
"pod" or via a video link. To know that she is safe, warm and well fed is a comfort to the family.

Hello, my name is Sue, and I am delighted to be the Home Manager here at Rivermere Care Home.


I Joined Rivermere in 2019 and have over 40 years of experience in the healthcare sector. Working in both residential and nursing settings, my previous roles have been as Registered Nurse, Senior Lecturer, and Regulator. I am always looking into ways to develop my skills in the sector and have successfully done this by proudly accomplishing BSC (Hons) Nursing Studies, which helps me succeed today.


Within this time, I have been lucky enough to create strong companionships with many residents and colleagues who all have amazing stories and backgrounds. Seeing my residents happy and enjoying life each day gives me the motivation to perform at the highest level.


I would best describe myself as someone who is very experienced within the healthcare sector, hardworking and compassionate about delivering exceptional care to all my residents. In my spare time, I enjoy spending it with my children and grandchildren. I also own two beautiful dogs, which I love to walk.

The company also care for and support their employees, resulting in loyal and hardworking teams. And our home is no exception. There are so many aspects to love about Rivermere, but for me, it has to be our beautifully landscaped gardens where residents can enjoy all year round, whether that be planting crops for our talented culinary team to use or just simply soaking up the sun on a summer’s day.
