My mum has been at Woodlands for four years. Mum was always very happy and very well looked after. Mum loved all the activities and took part. The carers were lovely and worked very hard. All the staff, and Woodlands, were our second family. Mum had dementia and became very poorly, she was on her end
of life plan. Everybody has been lovely towards Mum.

My sister went into Woodlands in September 2015 as her dementia was progressing. I have nothing but very high praise for all the staff present and past who cared for her in a loving and passionate way. She passed away in December 2021. Music featured very prominently all through her life. Her favourite
tracks were played in her room on a loop system non-stop right up till the end. I was kept informed of any change in medication or her health and always welcomed her warmly on visits. During Covid restrictions, the activity team set up regular FaceTime sessions with her once a week. Living in Hampshire this was my only contact with her. I shall always be grateful that she spent her final years in such a loving, warm and compassionate home. Thank you is not enough to all the staff especially those who had daily contact with her.

The staff were very friendly and reassuring and were very good with my partner and other residents. The food at dinnertime was excellent but the food at teatime was a mishmash of everything. During Covid, I would like to think he was looked after excellently, but couldn't tell.

For over three years, my late husband was a resident at Woodlands Care Centre and in all that time I, nor my family, have had any cause to feel he was not being looked after properly, in all respects. The affection the staff had for him and their kindness to me was so obvious when he was seriously ill
and after he passed away. My family and I cannot thank all the staff and praise them enough for all they did for my husband and us. Thank you all so very much.

My mum has been at Woodlands for a month now in the dementia unit. She has been cared for with the utmost respect, care and attention to her every need and staff have been and continue to be, superb with her and with me. I am very happy with the care she is receiving and feel assured that she is in
an environment where they understand her needs and can meet these, day and night. I speak to her as often as I can and the feedback she gives is also very positive. It is clear she feels safe and well cared for.

My father spent his final three years in the care of Woodlands Care Centre in Cambridge. Having had Alzheimer's, they showed excellent attention to his needs and a comforting sense that his happiness and wellbeing mattered. The care staff were fantastic and it was clear during his final moments, that
many of them had also built an emotional connection with him. I would certainly recommend Woodlands and am pleased that his final years were spent in the care of their lovely staff.

Mum moved into Woodlands Care Home in January 2020, in need of specialist nursing care after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease and a spell in hospital with a broken hip. She has received excellent care there, over the last year, from the dedicated and hard-working staff. The home itself is immaculately
clean and the rooms are light and well-appointed. I have found all of the staff very efficient and helpful and always able to find time to discuss Mum’s welfare with me. Mum has been at Woodlands for a year now and is settled, happy and very content. The home has had some immense challenges to deal with during the covid outbreak and they have demonstrated great resilience and skill in adapting to the crisis, always putting the welfare of the residents first. I am very grateful to them for their care and compassion to my Mum in these incredibly difficult and stressful circumstances. I would highly recommend Woodlands to anyone looking for dedicated excellence of care.

I would definitely recommend Woodlands, based on my experience over the last two years. There is a nice atmosphere, giving the place a homely feel, rather than institutional. It is a clean, airy and very welcoming environment. All the staff are really caring and go to a lot of trouble to make sure residents
feel safe, comfortable and happy. My mother enjoys her time there and has never complained about anything. I feel confident she is in good hands. Throughout all the coronavirus troubles, staff have remained positive and flexible and have definitely tried their best to help residents and their relatives get through such an incredibly challenging time. They are true heroes.

Mum has lived at The Woodlands for three years and has been well cared for. The staff are kind and compassionate. She is confined to bed and her position is changed regularly to prevent pressure sores and she is asked frequently if she is comfortable. Her personal care is very good, she is treated with
dignity and privacy is strictly maintained. She looks forward to her shower and hair wash. Our family keep in touch with daily phone calls to her room and in the absence of visiting, this is a vital lifeline. Her two nurses and her carers are exceptionally patient when adjusting her hearing aids and the volume of the phone to suit her needs, and will hold the phone if she cannot manage herself. They understand this important family contact and I am impressed that they enjoy helping and are so willing. The Woodlands Manager is very approachable and has an 'open door' policy. When I need to discuss Mum's care she is attentive and has acted promptly when necessary. I would not hesitate to contact her.

Mum has been a resident since May 2019 and the care she has received has been first class. I feel now is an appropriate time to post a review to praise the management and staff for the care given to Mum in what must be really stressful times. Late January this year, I received a phone call explaining
Mum was not in a good way and someone would keep me informed of any change in her condition, either good or bad. Thankfully she responded well to treatment and photos were sent showing how well she looked. It’s things like this and the regular phone calls to say ‘hello and ‘Mum's okay’ that make this home and the staff who care for all the residents, a very special place.
It’s always clean and tidy and very welcoming, we just can’t wait until we can visit in person again.

My partner has been cared for in Woodlands Care Centre since August 2019. He suffered a brain injury in 2009 and this developed into Alzheimer's in 2014. He has severe cognition issues and is also confined to a bed or specialist chair. His care has been wonderful and the staff are very attentive. It
has been so difficult since March 2020 with the onset of the pandemic and visitors not allowed. However, I skype him once a week so that I can see him. His daughters also regularly skype as well. In the face of adversity, the staff remain cheerful and helpful. The communication from the home has also been excellent providing information about any concerns or issues. It will be a special day when the home eventually reopens. Just to be able to give a hug to the person you love, something taken for granted for so long, will be wonderful.

My father has been very well looked after in the 18 months that he has been a resident here. He is very comfortable and allowed his own wifi and satellite TV which entertains him all day every day. Covid has been difficult and meant that he has not been able to leave there or see family that lives some
hours away but we are confident that he is being very well cared for in this difficult time.

All people are nice and supportive. I was happy with the care for my husband, even though my husband died in March 2020, the staff and manager are still very supportive and helping me when I needed. I would recommend this care home to anybody. My husband enjoyed many activities which I have a good memory

Thank you to all at Woodlands for coming to our aid in our time of need. After a steady decline over a period of a couple of years, my dear Mum was diagnosed with vascular dementia on admittance to hospital, following a series of falls, and then went rapidly downhill (physically and mentally) during
her stay in hospital.
Suspecting that the home we had found for her a few months earlier was no longer going to be suitable, my father and I booked a visit to Woodlands Care Centre. We were shown around by the excellent manager and knew at once that it was the right place. There was just one room left: we were shown around on Friday; Mum was assessed on Monday and moved in on Tuesday! As things turned out, Mum was only at Woodlands for about three months, as her decline was mercifully rapid and she died just after Christmas. During her relatively short stay at the centre, though, she was treated with kindness - as was my father, who visited pretty much daily - and everyone was so supportive to us throughout.

My mum spent 6 years of her life here. Some of the staff are truly amazing. Some really shouldn't be working in care including a few of the higher positions! We paid £1100 a week to have my mum here and I'm really unsure where the money went, as they struggle to get staff and the ones they do have are
paid minimum wage which is a joke as they should be paid more.
After she passed away, we were sent a generic printed letter and not one of them came to the funeral. Someone is making a killing out of this place. Like I said some, of the staff are amazing but her wedding ring went missing while she was here and some of the care she received was not great due to staffing issues.

Rubina

Rubina Arunagiri

Job Title: General Manager

I joined the Woodlands Care Centre as a Unit Manager in 2009. As a registered nurse, I have progressed through the roles being the Clinical Lead, Deputy Manager and now General Manager since summer 2020.


I first trained as a nurse over 20 years ago and began my career in a post renal transplant unit hospital in Mumbai, India, before moving to England with my husband. I am the proud mother of two grown-up sons.


My ethos behind my care is to “strive to make a positive difference to resident’s everyday life experiences and their wellbeing, whilst still delivering excellent clinical care. Everyone is treated as an individual”.

I am also passionate about supporting and developing my team with their clinical skills, values and beliefs and, empowering my team to deliver great clinical care with empathy, compassion and enhance residents lives at Woodlands Care Centre.
