Our cousins were booked for respite care while one was going for an operation. The staff were very friendly and professional and were able to help with any request/concern made of them in a caring and diplomatic way. Unfortunately I'm not able to answer to the quality of the food or activities but our
elderly cousins thought that Christmas Day was excellent.

My nana has been in the home for a few years now, she has dementia but this has been a lot more stable since moving here. She is always doing activities and has even been to Harrogate to another care home to do a Christmas cake competition. Her room is always clean and the staff are always very friendly.
The food is lovely and so is the home. We can sleep well knowing she is safe, happy and looked after.

My mother has been in the Manor House for two years, she has made some good friends and she and I think all the staff are amazing always ready to help and support her when she needs them. They provide outstanding meals and if Mam doesn't want what's on the menu they will try to provide what she has
requested. I couldn't fault anything. Thank you Manor House staff.

My father has been at The Manor House Barnard Castle since the spring of 2024, he has dementia. We looked at a number of homes in advance, The Manor was top of our list and has more than met expectations. Staff are friendly and welcoming and have taken account of a difficult wider family situation we
are dealing with. They have been very flexible. Dad is well cared for, well fed and communication from the home is very good. He seems very settled now.

My father has resided at The Manor House Barnard Castle for 12 months now and I can only find positive words for the whole experience. The care has been outstanding and The Manor House is a home from home. Dad initially thought he was living in a 5* hotel and I have to say the accommodation and service
is not far from this standard. From the moment you walk into the Manor, the greeting is always warm. The open sitting area is most comfortable and tea/coffee on-tap. Enter the wing to my fathers room and communal room, the accommodation, furniture and fittings are fantastic. On the odd occasion my father has been admitted to hospital, key staff members have kept me updated with regular calls and updates. Most impressed.

My mother is suffering from the early onset of Alzheimer's disease and required care whilst my wife and I went on holiday.
She had been to The Manor previously and enjoyed her break, so we booked her in for a 2-week stay. The place is very clean, well organised and the staff are fantastic. The food
is excellent. There are plenty of activities for residents to partake in, which Mum enjoyed.
I would not hesitate to recommend the Manor for short or long-term care.

My auntie has been in The Manor House 2 years, is well cared for with everything she needs. The personal care she receives is absolutely amazing from the staff. The staff is always approachable to ask if anything is bothering you, the manager is absolutely amazing with residents, staff and family members.

I cannot thank the staff enough for the professionalism, support and care provided to my father in his last days. The situation was difficult owing to external factors but despite all that was happening at the time the staff remained resolute and acted solely in the best interest of my father. Their
calmness and efficiency in managing the situation, not least going the extra mile to provide well-needed support to our family was truly appreciated. Thanks to their management and compassion my father received outstanding care ensuring his last few hours were calm and peaceful.

My father-in-law spent 3 weeks respite care at the home during August during which he received excellent care. Even though he had incurable bowel cancer, he actually put on weight as he was eating delicious meals, served by people who took the time to cater for his individual needs. He even made it
down to the cafe area where one of his last photos shows him happy and enjoying a latte with friends. This is a photograph we will always treasure. After this period he spent time in hospital, but returned to the home for what transpired to be the last 24 hours of his life. We will always be comforted by the fact that he was, at last, in safe hands, being cared for by people who genuinely wanted the best for him. Each and every carer went way way 'above and beyond' and we were listened to and protected by people who we knew we could trust completely. Lovely people, I would highly recommend.

My husband came to live in The Manor House on January 3rd 2024. From the moment we entered, I was impressed and reassured by the warm welcome we received. He has settled extremely well due mainly to the caring and patient staff and homely surroundings. When we had to attend the hospital for an operation
they attended to all the arrangements and his follow-up needs. I cannot thank them enough.

I find the staff are great with my sister who has lived here for over a year now. They are knowledgeable in dementia and can anticipate her needs when required. Her room is beautiful and always very clean and tidy, my sister loves the food and she loves the social aspect of living here. There is always
something for her to do. On the whole, my sister enjoys living here and has great relationships with the staff.

Mum has been in The Manor House Barnard Castle for ten months now. We are extremely happy with the care she is given. The staff are kind and considerate in their dealings with her. Whenever we visit, they are friendly and helpful and are happy to discuss any issues which may have arisen. They keep us
up to date with her care and any treatments.
The Manor House, itself, is a lovely environment, it is immaculately clean and well-kept. All of the staff, wherever they work, are kind and considerate with both Mum and her relatives and friends.
Mum celebrated her 90th birthday recently and everyone went out of their way to make it a special day, with a special shout-out to the kitchen who put on a lovely spread for lunch, despite having other commitments that day.
In summary, The Manor House is a lovely, well-kept environment but what makes it especially special is its staff.

My mum and dad were in The Manor House Barnard Castle for eighteen months, Mum on Chester dementia unit and Dad on Bowes. Mum adjusted well to Chester unit and was well loved, I had complete confidence in her care and all the staff were wonderful with her and they knew just what to do and say to put
her at ease, I am very grateful for all the love and care she received. Dad really didn’t want to be in a home but recognised he needed the care they could give and I could not manage at home. It was a lovely room and the staff were very patient and kind, even making sure he had his glass of wine with his meal at lunchtime. From the time of having to leave them in the home, I had complete confidence they were both in very capable hands and well looked after, also I knew they would always let me know if they were not well or had a fall. The staff also arranged visits for Mum to see Dad as often as he wanted, visiting for us was good and always a cup of coffee provided. Thank you all.

The Manor House Barnard Castle is superb. Very comfortable with good bedrooms and pleasant public rooms. The food is excellent.
I cannot speak too highly of all the staff who are polite, friendly and very efficient and caring.

My lovely mum went into The Manor House for a week respite, initially, but then stayed for over six years. All the staff, carers, cleaning staff, activities staff, management etc, are the most lovely caring individuals you would like to meet. My mum was so happy there, enjoying activities, a liqueur
in her coffee, outings when she could - the staff couldn't do enough for her. Mum went downhill very quickly, and the staff were so kind and considerate to us all - Mum passed away peacefully two weeks ago. I still go in to see everyone as it became my second home as well, and they all welcome me - I honestly can't thank them enough.

Debbie Wilson

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2011

I have worked at The Manor House for 13 years. I started as a care assistant and progressed to a senior, principal senior, and deputy manager and now I am the interim home manager, covering Sharon’s maternity leave. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to work with the elderly as I have always had a passion for care, and I especially find it very rewarding to look after people with more complex needs.


I live in the town with my husband Dean, our son Olly and our family dog, Rufus. In my spare time, I enjoy meeting up with my family and going abroad for a bit of sun.

I have worked at The Manor House for 10 years, I started as a bank care assistant and have worked my way through the ranks to become a deputy manager. I moved to Barnard Castle with my mum in 2008 from Leeds to start a new life, I have a partner named Simon and two children Ethan and Lexi-Mae. We also have a dog named Scamp. I like meeting new people, and am a very friendly outgoing person, something that helps when meeting new residents and their families when they first come to The Manor House. My ambition has always been to work with the elderly, I have a passion for supporting those living with dementia.

I have worked in social care for over 30 years and have spent 12 of those years at The Manor House.


I started as a night care assistant I then became a senior carer and then a principal carer. When our home manager Sharon went on maternity leave earlier this year, I had the opportunity to become a deputy manager.


I have been married to a sheep and beef farmer for 35 years and I work on our farm when I’m not at The Manor House caring for our residents. I have two grown-up daughters and two granddaughters – who are my world! My granddaughters are my world. I have three house dogs and five outside sheepdogs, taking these for long walks with my granddaughters, helps me unwind after work.

I have worked at The Manor House for nearly 5 years as an Administrator and have 20 years of experience working in this role in different care settings. I have also previously won an award for Administrator of the Year.


I enjoy helping families from the initial enquiry/admission process right through to discharge solving any issues/problems they may have in what can be a very stressful and emotional time for all concerned.


I have 2 grown up children, my Son is a self-employed Electrician and my Daughter is an Administrator also in a care home in Durham. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time at our caravan and spending time with my Husband Leo and my dog Kevin who also visits the The Manor House on a regular basis.
