My mam was admitted to The Manor House Barnard Castle in January 2023 after struggling to look after herself at home. She initially came for a week's respite and from the first day, stated she would not be returning home. The staff are 100% committed and go above and beyond to make The Manor House a
fantastic place for the residents to feel safe and welcome. The activities team do a fantastic job and Mam has said many times she does not feel lonely anymore. I would recommend The Manor House Barnard Castle, 100%.

The staff were very friendly and professional, they had entertainment on where residents and visitors could go to see an excellent singer and it was enjoyed by all. Very clean and nothing is a bother to all. Residents look very well looked after and are treated with the utmost respect.

My aunt lived at The Manor House, Barnard Castle for almost five years before she recently passed away. From our first visit to view the home until the very last day, all of the staff were warm, welcoming and so, so caring.
I knew my aunt was in the best of hands, even when we couldn't visit during
Covid, I never had to worry about her.
At the very end, the staff were just wonderful, their care and compassion for my aunt and for myself is something that I will be eternally grateful for.

My husband was only in The Manor House for seven days for palliative care supported by the district nurses. He was made to feel very welcome, he was cared for and looked after extremely well. Nothing was too much trouble. Everyone who visited him was welcomed and offered a drink or support if required.
We were kept informed as to any treatment given to him by the home or district nurses. At the end of his life, the care by the night staff was outstanding and professional. Thank you.

I find the home very welcoming and very clean and tidy. All the staff who I've spoken to are polite and friendly and they make you feel at ease. My auntie has settled in well and attends activities in and out of the home, which is a surprise to us as my auntie was never really a social person beforehand.
Her room is beautiful and has a great view. Overall, I am very happy that I know she is cared for well and looked after 24/7.

This has been the first time that we have had to find a care home for our parents. We visited a selection before choosing The Manor House Barnard Castle. The home is purpose-built, providing excellent accommodation. The carers are all welcoming and knowledgeable, working in a calm manner in difficult
circumstances. We are very grateful to the home and would have been lost without their help.

My sister has been in the home since July 2022 after a diagnosis of dementia was found. The home itself is like a five-star hotel, I've never been in a home like it, it's fantastic. The Christmas decorations in the home are fabulous and I find the staff very pleasant and approachable at any time. My
sister wasn't a very good mixer around people but I've found now, she is more interactive with others and will participate in activities provided internally and externally, which is a massive improvement in her mental health. Her room is spot-on and immaculate, which is a credit to the housekeeping team. The maintenance men are always there if you need anything done in the room, i.e. if you need pictures hanging etc. Overall, I would highly recommend this home and have sent brochures to Cornwall for extended family.

Overall, I am very impressed with The Manor House. The cheerfulness and courtesy of the staff are outstanding. A clear-cut list of services on admission would be very helpful e.q a change of bed and towels, personal laundry day, times of meals etc would be appreciated.

Since coming here several years ago and regaining my health, I have come to appreciate the care and friendliness I am receiving. I am pleased we have a pleasant garden to walk in with seats provided for use - weather permitting - where I can meet and chat with other residents, as well as in the lounge
and dining room.

My Dad has been in the Care Home nearly a year. He receives exceptional care and support from all of the Care Staff. It provides a real community and all staff members whether Care, Housekeeping, Maintenance etc regularly go out of their way to chat to Dad. He really enjoys the varied activities and
has a good social life within the home. I would highly recommend The Manor House Barnard Castle for their caring and positive attitude.

Mum came here for two weeks of respite care. The home is very nice and welcoming and her room was lovely. Mum settled and looks very well rested and looks better than she has for ages. Visited a few times and Mum was very settled.

My Mum is 93 and has mild confusion and has poor mobility. She was living indepently until 2020 and I was worried sick about her as she kept having falls, hated carers coming into her own home and trying to organise her, she was missing medication as well. Since she has been in the Manor House, Covid
permitting, I see her once a week and apart from an occasional blip in care, the key thing for me is that she is contented and her health has stabilised. She is well fed, well medicated and has her other personal needs met. The staff have been absolutely marvellous working through the pandemic. When things aren't quite right, I find the staff responsive to the issues I raise and you genuinely feel they are doing their best under extremely difficult conditions. Would I recommend The Manor House to someone else considering residential care - most definitely.

My aunt celebrated her 100th birthday in March 2021. A few family members were able to be with her via a window visit and zoom. It was lovely to see the attention given to her by members of staff, and their help when needed with opening her cards - one from the Queen of course. We saw a high level of
affectionate care coupled with respect for her independence.

Debbie Wilson

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2011

I have worked at The Manor House for 13 years. I started as a care assistant and progressed to a senior, principal senior, and deputy manager and now I am the interim home manager, covering Sharon’s maternity leave. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to work with the elderly as I have always had a passion for care, and I especially find it very rewarding to look after people with more complex needs.


I live in the town with my husband Dean, our son Olly and our family dog, Rufus. In my spare time, I enjoy meeting up with my family and going abroad for a bit of sun.

Job Title: Deputy Manager

I have worked at The Manor House for 10 years, I started as a bank care assistant and have worked my way through the ranks to become a deputy manager. I moved to Barnard Castle with my mum in 2008 from Leeds to start a new life, I have a partner named Simon and two children Ethan and Lexi-Mae. We also have a dog named Scamp. I like meeting new people, and am a very friendly outgoing person, something that helps when meeting new residents and their families when they first come to The Manor House. My ambition has always been to work with the elderly, I have a passion for supporting those living with dementia.

Job Title: Deputy Manager

I have worked in social care for over 30 years and have spent 12 of those years at The Manor House.


I started as a night care assistant I then became a senior carer and then a principal carer. When our home manager Sharon went on maternity leave earlier this year, I had the opportunity to become a deputy manager.


I have been married to a sheep and beef farmer for 35 years and I work on our farm when I’m not at The Manor House caring for our residents. I have two grown-up daughters and two granddaughters – who are my world! My granddaughters are my world. I have three house dogs and five outside sheepdogs, taking these for long walks with my granddaughters, helps me unwind after work.


Michelle

Michelle Middleton

Job Title: Administrator

Joined: 2020

I have worked at The Manor House for nearly 5 years as an Administrator and have 20 years of experience working in this role in different care settings. I have also previously won an award for Administrator of the Year.


I enjoy helping families from the initial enquiry/admission process right through to discharge solving any issues/problems they may have in what can be a very stressful and emotional time for all concerned.


I have 2 grown up children, my Son is a self-employed Electrician and my Daughter is an Administrator also in a care home in Durham. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time at our caravan and spending time with my Husband Leo and my dog Kevin who also visits the The Manor House on a regular basis.
