My mother is always treated with respect and her best interests are always considered. The caregivers are dedicated. The front-of-house staff are encouraging in the activities they provide.

My sister who was terminally ill stayed for 8 days in the Bowes Unit at The Manor House.
The home is very well decorated extremely clean feeling more of a luxury hotel rather than a care home.
She had the very best of professional care while staying there and appeared to be relaxed and content.
The
management and staff were always available to discuss any aspect that arose.
They showed genuine concern for my sister during an extremely difficult time at the end of her life.
I would like to thank all the staff in The Manor House for all their help and I am grateful for the kindness, also the understanding shown in those eight challenging days.
We cannot thank The Manor House enough for everything.

My Grandfather stayed here for 12weeks and received excellent care throughout.
From our first visit with the manager to when he passed away the level of service was exceptional. He was always comfortable and the communication was fantastic.
The building internally and externally were both exceptionally
clean.
I would like to thank all the staff during this difficult period (covid19) for going that extra mile.
To summarise;
I would strongly recommend this care home without doubt and overall the support provided was exemplary in all areas.

I want to say how delighted I am by the care that my mother has received over the last 30 months.
I am a healthcare professional and regularly visit care homes to see patients.
I was on duty when I first visited and it was immediately obvious that the staff were motivated and professional but above
all deeply aware of the care needs of their residents.
A welcoming feel and attention to detail has never changed.
Patience and understanding in carers have helped Mum to adjust to her new home. Mum can be challenging at times but the outstanding care she has received has helped her settle and enjoy her new surroundings
I could not be happier with her care and I am so grateful to the staff who give Mum such care and attention.

I visit The Manor House in John Street, Barnard Castle twice a week with my therapy dog which gives the residents and staff great pleasure. My only thought is that there are not enough experienced staff to meet all the needs of all those in the dementia ward and with not enough activities happening
to keep them busy - yes there are activities but not really enough. It is a beautifully equipped home and for those a lovely place to be with excellent dedication.

My father moved into the Manor House in late September 2019 where he lived until passing on 7th February 2020. The home is well equipped, well decorated and extremely clean. It has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and seems more like an upmarket hotel rather than a care home. The manager and her
staff are first class - going over and above what one would expect.
He was treated with respect and care by everyone from the outset, despite him being somewhat difficult on occasion. The manager and staff were always available to discuss any concerns we had and consequently alleviate any of our worries. They all showed genuine concern in him and us during an extremely difficult time as his life was ending.
We cannot thank the Manor House enough!

Staff are always helpful. Some go above and beyond to help families and their residents of the home. Issues are dealt with swiftly and carefully. I feel that anytime I need to contact them for the assurance I can, no matter what and they are always looking after my Mam as a priority. Outstanding.

I have found the Manor House to be an exemplary care home with a culture of kindness and understanding that is clearly evident as soon as you walk through the door.
The Manor House has provided a very high standard of care for my Dad that I believe would be extremely hard to equal, as it is personally
tailored to his individual daily needs.
I visit most days and have seen for myself the consistency of care, stimulating atmosphere and great staffing ratios; that means there’s always time for Dad and consequently, he’s very happy there on a day to day basis. The home is extremely well managed, with beautiful grounds, and a stunning interior that always impresses and is impeccably clean at all times. I would not hesitate to recommend The Manor House as they have provided a wonderful environment that has kept Dad safe, well and happy.

My mum had a medical issue which was brought to the attention of a staff member. An ambulance had to be called and there were several conversations with dispatch to establish the cause and nature of the problem. Throughout the whole episode, one carer, in particular, was fantastic. She stayed with mum
during the wait, reassured her and kept checking medical condition. She was both kind and professional during the experience. A credit to the home. It's nice to find someone so dedicated. Big thank you from all the family.

An excellent relationship with management and staff for relatives. Overall a beautiful home, if sometimes a little understaffed. All categories "good" or better with the exception of catering which seems to be only average and which is heavily criticised in a recent residents survey. Management admits
it is in need of improvement.

When it came to choosing a residential home for my mother, it was actually very simple. No other came close to the atmosphere, decor, spaciousness and friendliness of The Manor house. Eighteen months on, we continue to be impressed with the quality of care and the environment. Also the catering. My

The positives about The Manor House Barnard Castle include the friendly staff and especially the activity coordinator.
The previous manager has been replaced which has led to an improved atmosphere amongst staff. (The previous manager was often rude to me and spoke to me as though my mum was causing
her a problem). Things will be better now.

Since my arrival here almost a year ago, I have received cheerful care and consideration. This has been a great help to me, as I attempted to settle into a new life, following the death of my husband last March. The staff are pleasant and helpful and there is a happy atmosphere in The Manor House.

I am generally very satisfied with the care provided for my sister, now in her 80s and suffering from dementia at the Manor House. She has lived there since 2016. The accommodation is excellent and the care is generally very good albeit (I suspect because it is difficult to find suitable staff) sometimes
a bit patchy.

This home is lovely the staff are very nice and caring. The service by all the house staff is excellent. Mum has a lovely room with garden view and on to the street which she loves watching people come and go. The manager is so helpful and seems to always be there.

I am very happy here. More so than at home as I have company and friends here. The gardens are beautiful here. I have made some nice friends, the care staff are always very kind to you. Everything is very nice. I can have my hair and nails done, washing, good food, daily exercise and various exercise
classes. Trips out to the theatre and local areas of interest. I also enjoy the art classes.

Debbie Wilson

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2011

I have worked at The Manor House for 13 years. I started as a care assistant and progressed to a senior, principal senior, and deputy manager and now I am the interim home manager, covering Sharon’s maternity leave. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to work with the elderly as I have always had a passion for care, and I especially find it very rewarding to look after people with more complex needs.


I live in the town with my husband Dean, our son Olly and our family dog, Rufus. In my spare time, I enjoy meeting up with my family and going abroad for a bit of sun.

Job Title: Deputy Manager

I have worked at The Manor House for 10 years, I started as a bank care assistant and have worked my way through the ranks to become a deputy manager. I moved to Barnard Castle with my mum in 2008 from Leeds to start a new life, I have a partner named Simon and two children Ethan and Lexi-Mae. We also have a dog named Scamp. I like meeting new people, and am a very friendly outgoing person, something that helps when meeting new residents and their families when they first come to The Manor House. My ambition has always been to work with the elderly, I have a passion for supporting those living with dementia.

I have worked in social care for over 30 years and have spent 12 of those years at The Manor House.


I started as a night care assistant I then became a senior carer and then a principal carer. When our home manager Sharon went on maternity leave earlier this year, I had the opportunity to become a deputy manager.


I have been married to a sheep and beef farmer for 35 years and I work on our farm when I’m not at The Manor House caring for our residents. I have two grown-up daughters and two granddaughters – who are my world! My granddaughters are my world. I have three house dogs and five outside sheepdogs, taking these for long walks with my granddaughters, helps me unwind after work.


Michelle

Michelle Middleton

Job Title: Administrator

Joined: 2020

I have worked at The Manor House for nearly 5 years as an Administrator and have 20 years of experience working in this role in different care settings. I have also previously won an award for Administrator of the Year.


I enjoy helping families from the initial enquiry/admission process right through to discharge solving any issues/problems they may have in what can be a very stressful and emotional time for all concerned.


I have 2 grown up children, my Son is a self-employed Electrician and my Daughter is an Administrator also in a care home in Durham. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time at our caravan and spending time with my Husband Leo and my dog Kevin who also visits the The Manor House on a regular basis.
