Hempstalls Hall, situated in a quiet suburb, stands as one of the finest among Newcastle Under Lyme care homes. I have been here for a month. Very welcoming and kind. No complaints. As a church reader, I have been to a number of other homes with services and have seen them. This is my choice for me.

My mother has been at Hempstalls Hall Care Home in respite care for the past 6 weeks, during which time she has been extremely well cared for. The home is modern, with lovely rooms and gardens. the staff are helpful and considerate and the food excellent.

We are happy that mum is encouraged to do as much as possible for herself here and this means that she gets about with a zimmer frame because of the encouragement. Everyone is always very welcoming towards visitors.
One request though; it would be nice if staff could find the time to sit more with
mum one to one and have a chat. She really loves a quiet chat and much prefers it to socialising in a big group. I feel this would really help her general well-being.

Although the ratings speak for themselves I confirm they reflect the knowledge I have received in the occasions that my ex husband (a victim to dementia) availed himself at Hempstalls Hall in connection with the respite care programme. The warmth and cheerfulness of the staff most tangible and transmits
itself to the residents.

Mu husband has Alzhiemers and mobility problems. This March was the third time he has been into Hempstalls for respite. It was brilliant and good for me too so that I could have a rest from being his only carer. The family call it Grandads 5 star hotel. The care he receives and the quality of the home
itself lives up to that. He is entertained, take out and made to feel at home. It's the best.

I couldn't be happier with Hempstalls and couldn't consider moving mum to another. I've scored excellent in all the survey boxes. The home has a great atmosphere. A second activities staff member has been added which shows real commitment to stimulating the residents. I was most impressed when a staff
member said two of them had given a resident a clean and said 'she looks lovely', clearly looking after the lady was a joy not a chore.

I visit the care home, notwithstanding the reason of doing so. I must say Hempstalls Hall is a fine care home. The surroundings are fine. The staff are efficient and pleasant and helpful, especially with any queries. The rooms are very clean as well as the rest of the home. My sister won't appreciate
the full extent of her care but I know she is receiving it.

Finding oneself in the daunting position of having to choose a care home for a parent who has recently been widowed I cannot overstate how happy I am with Hempstalls Hall as a choice. The ethos from Home Manager to the Handy Man is the same throughout. What the resident needs is everyone's primary concern.
"ITS THEIR HOME!" It's a comfortable, clean modern environment. Not too large only 40 residents over 2 floors, larger homes may have proved too daunting for my Mother. I also believe the level of care can be more personal in in this small cosy environment. On moving in she was met and welcomed by The Manager, a Senior care worker, a junior care worker, the Head Chef, The Events Organiser, even the Administrator made herself known. This caring sincerity has continued to this day. Mum has made some very good new friends, and the new increased mobility, and socialising have given her a new lease of life. My only regret is that my Father never got to experience this as well! Hempstalls Hall is a model for others to aspire to. Everyone who asks me where my Mum ended up has said what good things they have heard about Hempstalls Hall. I think it has the best reputation in the area. I would unreservedly recommend it. It isn't cheap for a self-funded resident, but lesser quality places aren't really worth the saying.

Lisa Bailey

Job Title: Manager

Joined: 2010

I joined Hempstalls hall 14 years ago when it opened in 2010 from the day Hempstalls Hall opened I have been proud to be part of the team. I am currently Home Manager at Hempstalls which is running the home and ensuring any queries and concerns are dealt with.


Having worked at Hempstalls for 14 years I have many things which I enjoy about my job such as having a helpful, caring, and compassionate team. Hempstalls is a friendly and welcoming environment.


When I’m not at work hobbies some of my favourite things to do are spend time with family and friends, take my dog on long walks, and go out for meals and cocktails.


I also love going on holiday and I am aiming to travel the world.


I would best describe myself as a happy and caring person who enjoys looking after people. I am always very organised and like to have a plan in place for any tasks which may lie ahead. I’m able to remain calm and positive in any situation which may arise. As part of being the deputy manager, I like empowering staff in the job which they are in. I have worked my way from Senior carer then Team Leader, Deputy Manager and now to Home Manger these roles have enabled me to gain a lot of experience and knowledge in the care sector which I use daily in my role as a Manager.

I have worked here at Hempstalls Hall for the past 14 years which is since Hempstalls Hall opened. Previously I worked at another nursing home as a care assistant, and then onto became a senior. When I joined Hempstalls Hall I started as a senior and then I worked my way up to a team leader. I enjoy being a team leader and I’m always on hand if anyone needs any assistance.


I like to spend my time doing a varied range of activities when I'm not at work I like to go shopping and spend time with family and I enjoy travelling the world and making memories.


I think that as a team leader, there are many qualities that you need to have so that people feel that you are approachable, and I feel like I bring a range of these qualities to my job such as being a good team player, listening to people’s issues and concerns.


I would best describe myself as a caring and compassionate person who is willing to put my mind to anything I like working both independently and as part of a team I think that this is important in my role as a team leader.

I work at Hempstalls Hall and my role is Deputy Home Manager. I previously worked here from 2010 to 2017 as a wellbeing coordinator followed by senior care assistant. I have also worked in admin role at Hempstalls since July 2023. I have a wide range of skills and knowledge in different departments, and this shows through my work.


I have many qualities which I show while doing my role as an administrator such as being organised, good team player as well as working independently, being Professional, and being reliable for any task I am given. I also think that my communication is very good with other departments and when dealing with outside agencies.
I would best describe myself as a trustworthy, hardworking individual who is always on hand if anyone needs me for support or advice. Something which I enjoy a lot is being able to meet so many different people through my area of work. I enjoy working as an administrator because it is a job which enables me to use a range of skills and knowledge which Is useful in my job.


In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family, watching movies and reading books. My favourite movie genre is horror, and my favourite author is Stephen King.

I joined Hempstalls Hall 10 years ago. Before becoming an activity coordinator at Hempstalls Hall I used to be a pastoral visitor for a local church and before that, I was a hairdresser for 7 years. I have always enjoyed being able to help others and give back to the community. I have always enjoyed being able to provide the residents of Hempstalls Hall with the best range of activities to help enable people to carry on living their lives to their full potential and help keep people active.


I would describe myself as hard-working, caring and empathetic. With any job I do I always make sure that I give it my all and that every activity which I provide here a Hempstalls is person-centred around all residents and that the activities provided are aimed at individuals with all different needs and abilities.


Working at Hempstalls there are a lot of aspects of my job which I enjoy however some of my favourites is taking the residents out and enjoying time with residents doing the activities which me and colleagues’ plan. There is a wide range of activities that are offered here at Hempstalls Hall always something to suit everyone.


When I am not at work in my free time, I like to go walking and am actively involved with my local church as church life is very important to me, I help in Sunday school and I’m on the prayer team. I also like to participate in dancing activities and going on holidays I like to take part in a wide range of activities because I like socialising with other people.

Job Title: Maintenance Worker

I joined Hempstalls Hall just over 2 years ago as a Maintenance worker. Before working at Hempstalls Hall I was in the police force and before that I spent many years in The Royal Navy since starting my job at Hempstalls this is something I enjoy as I get to meet new people every day and I am always on hand to help the residents with any DIY jobs which they may need completing.

I would best describe myself as an outgoing person with a fun and witty sense of humour. I like to have a laugh with both residents and staff. I am always happy to listen to the residents whilst carrying out my daily tasks and the residents enjoy seeing me around and know my role should they need any work completed they know to ask for me.


There are many aspects of my job which I enjoy and one of the main things I enjoy most about my job is being able to carry out many different tasks in a timely manner and complete them along with having some tasks that are not very straightforward I am always able to find a way to solve problems which I may come across.

Being part of the team at Hempstalls is very enjoyable I enjoy my job and have been able to get to know different people and I’m part of a well-led team. When I first started at Hempstalls Hall I found that the environment was very bright, and the staff were all very welcoming and I’m proud to be part of the team.


In my free time, I like to spend time with my family and go away in the caravan, walking my dogs, cooking, and watching football.

Alison Pellington

Job Title: Head Chef

Joined: 2022

I have been working at Hempstalls for the past 18 months and I am head chef here. I enjoy cooking and I enjoy being able to cook food for people and hearing people's feedback as people’s opinions of my food are important I take any feedback seriously and will adapt my menus and foods to people’s tastes.


I would describe myself as a funny and outgoing person who is willing to try anything. I always ensure that I give my all to any tasks which I carry out. I am a reliable team player and I like working alongside my team in the kitchen. I like working in the kitchen and I bring a bubbly atmosphere to the work environment.


I think that I bring many qualities to my job I have a good bubbly personality which helps to create a nice working environment for me and the other staff with I work with. I have good leadership skills, and in my role, this is important because been the head chef I need to be able to organise, delegate and lead.


Been a member of the Hempstalls time I enjoy being head chef, but what I enjoy most is being part of a good strong team which are always there and supportive in any situation. When I first started at Hempstalls I enjoyed the training that was provided because it was very informative and helped me to broaden my knowledge.


Although I enjoy my work when I’m not at work I like going on holiday with my friend and family and going out for meals.

Job Title: Receptionist

I have worked at Hempstalls for 2 years when I started, I was a care assistant but for the past 9 months, I have changed roles and am now a receptionist. Although I enjoyed being a care assistant, I enjoy being a receptionist as it’s a job which has provided me with new challenges and enjoy being able to have the opportunity to experience these.


As a receptionist, I feel I am able to bring many qualities to this role such as having an open mind and being able to listen to people when they initially make contact with the home I am able to help them with any queries or questions they may have and if I am unable to do this I can direct them to the best person who will be able to help.


I would best describe myself as a fun, outgoing person who is always on hand to help others and I feel that I am very good at working both independently and as a team. I enjoy being part of the team at Hempstalls because everyone is helpful and pulls together to work as a team.
I enjoy my job as a receptionist but when I am at home I like to spend time with my family and go out for meals and cocktails with family and friends. I also enjoy short breaks away and shopping.
