My father needed to go into a dementia care home as an emergency as in April 2020, a huge challenge finding availability in a suitable care home during covid-19; as most had closed their doors. We discovered Acacia Lodge, we had not heard of it and by golly, we are so pleased that we managed to obtain
a place here for Dad. The employees, every one of them, are super professional, helpful and friendly; they are super with, and they provide marvellous care to their patients; they make time to speak with the patients and the families to get to know them, and nothing is too much trouble. There are tasty meals for residents and lots of tea and afternoon cakes. When visiting Dad, we are always offered a cuppa and often a piece of cake too. On Dad's birthday, the chef kindly made a delicious birthday cake and a fuss was made, all especially for Dad. Naturally, we were anxious about placing Dad into a care home, however, our anxieties have dissipated. Acacia Lodge provides a home from home experience that we cannot fault, and we have every faith that Dad is being cared for in the most professional, dignified and caring manner.

Acacia Lodge is an amazing place; it is well managed and employs the most genuinely caring staff. The residents are treated with so much dignity and respect and are all treated as the individuals they are. The staff show true dedication to their work, their friendly, happy nature is a big factor in
the day to day happiness of the residents. Acacia Lodge has provided a tremendous degree of comfort and peace of mind to our family, as we had all witnessed an exemplary level of care and compassion shown by each and every one of their staff.

My husband came to Acacia Lodge from hospital, where he had caught Covid. They needed his bed at the hospital. I couldn't be more pleased with the kindness to us both. The staff are good with him and he is happy there. I f I get any worse I would be more than pleased to join him. Despite lockdown, I
can visit him with social distancing.

My lovely wife was admitted to Acacia Lodge three years ago with advanced Alzheimer's. I nursed her at home for seven years before that until it became too difficult not having the skill or the necessary equipment. It was heartbreaking. However, she has been so well cared for and is so content at Acacia
that I have no need for regret or worry. My sister is also in the same home and is wonderfully looked after. They have gone through the worst of the pandemic with no casualties from staff or guests by operating in the most efficient way possible. They are a remarkable group run by angels of mercy.

I could not wish for a better home than Acacia Lodge for my mum to be cared for in and most especially during the Coronavirus Pandemic.
The early lockdown and speedy interventions taken by management and their amazing team have kept my mum, the residents and staff safe, well and happy during the most
difficult time imaginable.
The separation from Mum has been the hardest thing for my family to bear.
The wonderful carers have ensured that we have had regular contact with Mum via Facetime and now we can visit outdoors using an appointment system, which works really well.
Seeing so many families visiting their loved ones in this way has been heartwarming and emotional, the hardworking staff are always cheery and upbeat and create a wonderful atmosphere that we can all enjoy together.

My father has been at Acacia Lodge for 18 months. In that time he has been well cared for. I wanted to write a review now, because of the amazing work the staff are doing during the Covid 19 lockdown. We have not been able to visit my father during this time. It was his 90th birthday on Friday and this
of course meant that we could not be with him to celebrate. I spoke to the team at Acacia and they agreed that they would arrange for my father to be positioned by the window at a certain time so that I could wave through the window. They also ensure that he had plenty of celebrations and fun on the day. He was absolutely delighted. I would like to thank everyone for their hard work and patience, especially during this particularly difficult time.

My elderly gentleman friend was extremely reluctant to go to a care home; I chose carefully and found my decision to be excellent - he is very well looked after, his difficult diet is accommodated with care and charm, and the people who care for him are very kind and caring. He admits that he is much
safer in this home than he would have been had he continued to live independently. This was an enormous step for me and for his other friends. He is a distinguished intellectual with a fascinating life history and he is treated with great respect. He has a comfortable room with ensuite bathroom and a window looking out onto green spaces. I am enormously grateful, a huge relief for me.

My mother-in-law moved to Acacia Lodge from another Care Home where she had her own flat and care as necessary. She moved when she finally accepted herself that she was unable to cope any longer in this situation. She settled down comparatively smoothly and although she still falls a lot this is due
to her own strong character. The home on the whole, cope with these situations very well and only contact us where necessary. She enjoys the food that is served and also the activities that are provided. According to my mother-in-law the staff are kind and caring and she is treated with dignity.
I feel that they are handling the Coronairus problem to the best of their ability, to ensure that the residents and staff are kept safe and I appreciate their dedication and hard work over this.

I am very aware of the fact that many men and women are most definitely not in truth aware of the complexities of caring for Dementia patients. It takes a very special individual to take this course and in return give love and understanding to those who in residence miss their homes, families and freedom.
God only knows what we would do if such persons were not around. In my unbiased opinion, there is no medal big enough for them. My lovely wife of 62 years has been in Acacia Lodge for a few years so in truth I have drawn very definite conclusions that have made me very grateful to all staff members.

My auntie has only been in Acacia Lodge since November after moving from her previous care home. I cannot believe the difference in her, she is so much happier, positive and never says anything negative anymore. Her medical problems have also improved. The staff are all very kind and caring and treat
her with respect. They spend time with her and nothing is too much trouble for them. Other members of my family have also noticed the change and improvement in her. This really does put my mind at rest knowing that she is well looked after and cared for. I am just totally amazing at how well she is doing. Thank you all so much.

My father was a resident at the Acacia Lodge Care Home for over a year until his death on 6th December 2019. Do not judge a book by its cover. Acacia Lodge is outstanding in its level of care for residents. There are other more beautiful care homes in term of buildings, but I very much doubt that any
equals the level of care and professionalism shown by the manager and her staff. My father was probably not the easiest resident, but they showed consistent care and professionalism throughout his 14-month stay. In addition, the manager was extremely helpful in applying for grants to keep the cost down. 100% positive recommendation.

My father spent his last week in Acacia Lodge, having been completely independent until very recently.
His stay was not in any way pre-planned but from the first telephone conversation with the Manager onwards, the level care and kindness shown to him and me was outstanding.
Every member of staff
we met was friendly and helpful and huge efforts were made to provide the types of food he wanted to eat and to encourage him.
The nursing staff were diligent and caring and at every visit, each member of staff spent as much time with us as we needed, as well as looking after him thoughtfully and respectfully.
I cannot thank the team at Acacia Lodge enough and would recommend them to anyone.

The staff are what made Acacia Lodge outstanding. All the staff treated mum like a member of their family, with such support, friendship, respect and this extended to all her family. It does not come across as a business (which we had experienced in previous home) and this made it all so much more bearable.
I was made to feel very welcome and relaxed in a very inviting atmosphere. The manager and her team should be so proud of the service they provide.

My partner arrived very weak and inactive, eating only puree. She now eats well, has put on weight and is much more alert. Very comfortable at night - some difficulty in alerting staff when the toilet is required.

Having visited a number of care/nursing homes around Reading and Henley, we chose Acacia Lodge for my Father initially for a respite period, but now as a permanent resident. We are so grateful to the Home Manager and her nursing team, care staff, activity coordinators, chefs et al, who regularly go
the extra mile to make my Father feel at home. The biggest compliment we could give is that after 85 years, despite my Father's degenerative condition, he is settled, content and safe in the hands of all the Team at Acacia Lodge. Similarly, when we visit we feel welcome and our requests are important and acted upon swiftly and professionally. Thank you so much.

Hi, my name is Wendy!
I began my employment at Acacia Lodge in 2013 in the Housekeeping Department but soon realised that doing activities was something I wanted to try and would enjoy.
When the opportunity arose I applied for the role immediately. My manager has been my mentor and adviser and has encouraged me to keep the momentum going with everything I plan. Thelma nominated me for the Care Home Awards in 2018 and I made it to the final seven. A proud moment!


The best part of my role is bringing joy and laughter and creating special moments with our residents, families and staff. Offering reassurance and a hug to residents when needed is also so important to me. A chat and a cup of tea go a long way to making someone feel wanted or respected.


My role is important because, without the daily stimulation of activity, it is easy to become withdrawn, lethargic and poorly. Using my person-centred care skills I endeavour to make sure that everything is an activity, from care to meal times. Activities cover many daily tasks as well as the usual fun things.
