Little Wakering House is proud to have won the coveted ‘Care Activities Co-ordinator/Facilitator of The Year category in the 21st National Care Awards 2019’, the ‘Highly Commended Dementia Team of the Year Award at the 2019 Prosper Awards for Essex County Council and the ‘Outstanding Dementia Care’ Award for Southend Dementia Action Alliance 2019.

The home provides person-centered care like no other in the area and has a capacity of 13 service users with bedrooms on the ground and first floor. Little Wakering House is proud to offer exceptional accommodation, engaging and meaningful activities and a large outdoor garden including a large undercover seating area overlooking the planted flower beds.

All rooms are generously proportioned and larger than most purpose-built homes in the area. Each bedroom has its own en-suite as well as there being a communal bathroom on the ground and upper floor.

Life at Little Wakering House is all about creating a safe, cosy and homely environment for the service users. All rooms come furnished, but the home understands and supports service users to decorate and make the bedroom their own; something the home has found helps the settling in process significantly.

The activities include day trips out, a visiting zumba instructor, healthy cooking classes, life skill lessons, 1-1 activities and various other activities which have all been chosen by the service users.

Little Wakering House focuses on building individuals skills to ensure independence and they have a track record of individuals moving from their service into their own flats/homes with supported living care in place.

Their service users range from those who are relatively self-sufficient to others who require more complex care. The care team works together with service users and their relatives/next of kin’s to create a care plan that is as individual as those they care for.

Our whole family have had support from Little Wakering House. Our Son has been in there 15 months and, although it took a while for him to settle, Little Wakering House was really caring and helped him overcome his problems, especially the nights which he has always had difficulties. He is settled,
happy and well stimulated. He has a good timetable and is busy which makes him content.

Our one concern is the over-long review by the council to activate. Review procedures! Advocate and staff trying to resolve this!

Reviews are always handled with care for our resident. We are always asked if we agree with their assessments of our resident's position at the time of the review. Always very good. Always lots of laughs plus tea and biscuits. Come away happy that our resident is being properly cared for.
