My father has been a resident here since Dec 2021, and from the first visit, I have nothing but praise. They have and are continuing to provide a great standard of compassion in their continuing high standard of care of my father. He has advanced dementia and is non-mobile. The staff are always welcoming,
My dad always looks calm and comfortable whenever I visit and now the restrictions have lifted we can go anytime. I love how they try and continue to engage with him and encourage him to participate in activities. His favourite is singing. Daffodil Rise has recently been painted and looks fresh, his room is always clean and the ensuite wet room is perfect for his needs. Staff are accommodating and email exchanges are prompt. Fabulous Care home. Thank you for all you are continuing to do.

Now that Covid has relaxed restrictions, I feel happier giving a true assessment of care. Whenever I visit, I am made to feel welcome, and the care attendants are always happy to accommodate me and my wishes. The home is light, airy and lovely and clean. Staff seem to interact cheerfully with residents,
even under challenging circumstances. I do feel that all bread should be wholemeal to assist with common toilet problems and fibre helps.

Thank you for your lovely review. Our residents are given the choice of what bread they wish to have, but we find the majority prefer white bread.

My mum was at Ty Penrhos for 6 years. She suffered from vascular dementia as well as diabetes, which added extra problems. I wish to give a massive thank you to every member of staff at the home, especially on Daffodil unit. The wonderful care and love given to my mum has left me and my family totally
and utterly grateful to the superb staff. I don’t know all the names but special mention to those who cared for mum over the years. Thank you all so much.

I would like to thank all the staff at Ty Penrhos for the kindness they showed to my mother whilst she was a resident at Ty Penrhos. My mum suffered from Alzheimer’s, and we were only able to visit her once before the lockdown started, but the staff seemed very kind and compassionate.
So, once again,
many thanks to all the staff

My dad transferred to Ty Penrhos in August from another dementia care home as his condition had deteriorated and he now required nursing care. Due to the coronavirus restrictions, we were unable to previsit the home but soon realised what a great choice we had made. The excellent staff made sure we
were kept well informed with how he was settling in and the few phone calls/outdoor visits we had with my dad confirmed how well he was being looked after. He sadly became very poorly within weeks and I cannot praise the clinical lead nurse and her nursing and care staff high enough. Their professionalism, compassion and end of life support helped us as a family cope with the very difficult and upsetting time as he sadly passed away. The staff are genuinely caring for the residents and treat them with respect. The home is purpose-built, rooms are spacious and everywhere is kept lovely and clean. Would recommend this home to anyone looking for a care home for their loved one.

Mum’s dementia had deteriorated at the beginning of the year, which led to her transfer from another care home to Ty Penrhos care home. We were immediately impressed with the level of care she received from the staff, along with the compassion shown during a significant dip in her behaviour. Unfortunately
before mum was able to really settle in, Covid 19 hit all care homes and we were unable to visit her. Our family throughout this time have been reassured with all aspects of her care, from the excellent communication with staff to the activities team who have worked so hard to keep families in touch and the level of care and wellbeing for all residents. We can highly recommend this care home and the management involved in the running of this care home.

My mother resided in the nursing EMI unit for 9 years until her recent passing. I cannot praise the unit highly enough. She was so well taken care of and so well cared for, I was fortunate enough to not have to worry about her whilst she was there. It is obvious that the nurses and carers are devoted
to their jobs and genuinely care for the residents that they support. My experience of staff end of life support is that they are equally sensitive to the needs of residents and family members. I would have no hesitation in recommending this home to anyone looking for suitable accommodation for their loved ones.

This is the second care home that dad has been in. This meets his needs from all aspects. The staff are very helpful and friendly and management/lead staff are always approachable.

It is always welcoming and feels like dads home. Everyone works as a team and carry out tasks as they need doing.
Plenty

of activities with a monthly calendar to advise. There are also meetings for families to meet up.

My Dad moved into this Home approximately two months ago. All the staff there are very kind, caring and understanding. They are also extremely knowledgeable and have always treated Dad with the utmost respect. They also liaise closely with the doctors' surgery nearby and will organise transport to the
local hospitals if necessary as well as communicating regularly with family members.
The building itself and Dad's room is very clean, tidy, bright and spacious and looks more like a 3 star hotel than a care home!

My Mum has just arrived in Ty Penrhos, having moved from another part of the country to be near family. Staff have been lovely and welcoming, and have been thinking of lots of ways to make my Mum comfortable and to help her find friends. We’re very pleased and my Mum is beginning to settle in after
only a few days. Thank you. As this is early days the only thing we’ve not been able to comment on yet are activities.

My husband has the most excellent care I could have imagined. He is a vegetarian. All his needs are met, even with his diet. He always looks clean, nicely dressed and his clothes are looked after. The care staff are wonderfully caring, thoughtful and happy. There is a lovely atmosphere. Every member
of staff integrates with my husband and all other residents. One of the carers is so hard working and thorough but another is above and beyond all, caring, calm, a real bonus to the residents and staff. Also to visitors - most courteous and professional.

My mother has been resident at Ty Penrhos for several years and she, and I, couldn't be happier with the care that she's received throughout that period. The staff are very professional, the home is always clean and tidy, and the bedrooms and community rooms are very spacious. That it is a purpose built
nursing/care home is quite evident. Couldn't be happier.

My mum has been a resident at Ty Penrhos for almost 2 years. My mum's care has been excellent and the staff are fantastic. They were able to get mum back walking when she entered the home after having been in hospital for several months. As a family, we only wish mum could have been in Ty Penrhos earlier
in her illness when she would have been able to experience the care home's activity programme. Well done Ty Penrhos.

The staff and care at Ty Penrhos is absolutely excellent. The Carers become part of your family, my dad sadly passed away this month whilst at Ty Penrhos and I can honestly say without the staff supporting us as a family, we would never have got through this upsetting time. Dad was always clean and
tidy and loved the carers so much. My dad's illness was first described to us as a journey one which the staff at Ty Penrhos, were with us every step of the way. The Love and devotion they showed not only to dad but the other residents too, was excellent whilst always being able to remain professional at the same time. I am very proud to say that 6 of the carers from the unit dad was a resident on, were bearers at my dads funeral, so I can truly say they cared for my dad right to the very end of his journey. We will be eternally grateful to all at Ty Penrhos for the care and dedication they gave to us all especially dad. Thank You.

My mother has been at Ty Penrhos since March 2016. This is a fantastic facility for dementia/nursing and residential care. Within days of coming out of the hospital, the kind staff has settled mum into the home. The staff working in this home are 5 Star. They are compassionate, friendly, loving,
sympathetic and go the extra mile to help the residents feel like that are in their own home. The nursing staff and care staff keep in contact with relatives and keep us up to date with any issues involving mum.
The entertainment staff in the home put on lovely social events and activities for the residents too. Ty Penrhos provides such great care, that our family have had a weight of worry lifted off our shoulders, knowing that our mum is so well cared for and all her needs are met. I would encourage anyone who is looking for a care home bed in the Cardiff/Caerphilly area to visit Ty Penrhos and assess the comfortable conditions provided for residents themselves.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.704)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.704) out of 10 for Ty Penrhos Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.422 for Ty Penrhos Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (63 Excellents x 5) + (42 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 116 Ratings = 4.422

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.282 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ty Penrhos Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 83 registered maximum number of service users is 16.6. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 16.6 = 0.482

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
