The staff at the care home cannot do enough for the residents and are always smiling and very helpful, my mother in law is always saying how good the staff are, and we had xmas dinner there and it was very nice and I have no hesitation recommending this home.

Always a pleasant atmosphere around the home. Staff go above and beyond with the residents and are extremely supportive with residents family and friends. Warm and inviting, clean, well cooked food. Always activities happening to suit everyone.

Well where do I start?
Good points - none. Bad points - numerous.
1) No apparent staff uniform or name badges worn, so was hard to tell who actually worked there or was just visiting.
2) Floors always appeared to be dirty, unswepped and not mopped properly.
3) Always seemed to be short staffed
as could be waiting well over 30 minutes for call bell to be answered and an even longer wait for help then to be offered.
4) Bedding not changed regularly as one incident involved my mum being sick and 3 days later the same bedding with sick stains was still on the bed.
5) Medical negligence led to a blue light admission to hospital which my mum never came back from. LA closed safeguarding only after the home re-trained staff and made changes to many procedures and procedures, it us unforgivable that a resident should have to experience negligence to ensure the most basic of things are properly taken care of. Please think twice before considering this home for a loved one.

Comments to explain my scores.
Facilities: very institutional, noisy, alarms continually going off for extended periods.
Care: missed medication over 14 days resulting in emergency hospital admission. Proven in formal investigation and admitted to by Minster Care.
Cleanliness: room floor cleaned
once, dirty communal areas.
Dignity: multiple occasions left in soiled clothing for over 2.5 hours.
Food: effort was made to cater for likes/dislikes.
Staff: 14 days of missed medication and extremely poor personal care delivery say it all. Suspect minimum staffing only.
Management: lied to my face, failed to properly act on complaints and tried to dodge safeguarding reporting.
Safety: not a safe caring place, they put my mum in hospital and took her dignity.
Rooms: ok size, basic empty boxes, noisy due to echoey halls.
Value: none.
Comments are factual based on either personal witness, formal investigation from the home or evidenced in documents from a subject access request. People deserve so much better.

We take all feedback very seriously. The care and wellbeing of our residents is always our principal priority. The LA has carried out an inspection around any safeguarding's and complaints and this has been closed with no action. Please be assured we have daily cleaning and deep cleaning programmes in place, which are adhered to. All our homes have nurse call systems in place for the safety of our residents, we understand the sound may be undesirable however it is essential. Our rooms are also fully furnished; however, we do recommend families bring items to make the room personal and familiar for the resident. We are sorry that your expectations were not met.

This service needs to be urgently inspected by the regulator. I work in the care sector and this home is a very basic local authority home charging higher prices. Staff were seen wearing dirty uniforms and no name badges. Floors are visibly unclean.
The "lounge" is a very depressing room with NHS
looking chairs with residents slumped in them. Call bells are constantly going off. Residents are not really given choice in their care or even what they are given to drink, it is just put in front of them. They are lucky to have basic needs met. I am amazed the registered manager passed his interview with the CQC. He is either in his office with the door closed or not in the home.

We take all feedback very seriously. The care and wellbeing of our residents is always our principal priority. The LA has carried out an inspection around any safeguarding's etc. and the issue has been closed. Please be assured we have daily cleaning and deep cleaning programmes in place. Our menus are 4 weekly rolling and at each mealtime residents are offered at least 2 and most commonly 3 options for meals, if they do not like any of the options then we will always do our best to provide something they would enjoy. All our homes have nurse call systems in place for the safety of our residents, we understand the sound may be undesirable however it is essential. Our current prices for care are in line with our local competitors. All customers are made fully aware of these prior to care provision. We are sorry that your expectations were not met.

I am so pleased with the care my mother has received at Ashgrove Care Home. She is now at end-of-life and all your staff have been first-class, from all the care staff and cleaners in the last eighteen months. God bless them all.

Mum has been in Ashgrove for over a year now and it has not always been without faults but I need to give the new management and staff team massive praise for the changes. It's like a totally different home. The home is welcoming, and clean, and is beautifully decorated since undergoing recent renovations.
The staff seem happy, they are always friendly, and welcoming and the new manager is always free for a chat, he often drops what he's doing to listen to me and I don't feel rushed. He is visible and helps the carers when I visit which I think is important.
My mum has gone from strength to strength over the past 6 months. She now comes out of her room and joins in with activities that are by far more meaningful and take place most days. She has put weight on and enjoys the food. Her mental health has come on leaps and bounds.
Thank you all for your hard work, kindness and compassion.
I would now recommend Ashgrove as the place to live!
It even has its own fully stocked-bar now!

Overall Ashgrove is a very good care home, my experience has mostly been positive, no care home is 100% the staff is very good and any issues have been promptly handled with. My Father was in Ashgrove for nearly 3 years.

We have tremendous gratitude for the entire team at Ashgrove - a care home which sets itself apart by offering a calm and welcoming atmosphere. From the first visit, we noticed the warm, friendly attitudes of staff - also the residents appeared relaxed and at home.
Sensitive decisions about care
were competently made; also staff assertively chased meds and advice from GPs/pharmacies, in fact, anything to ensure Dad's comfort which was often hard due to Dad's illness but staff did their best (Dad agreed). The quality of care was consistent and professional, even given Dad's complex care needs.
Whilst the above qualities are important, the main strength of Ashgrove Care Home appeared to be the calibre of the staff who work there. They are amazing, compassionate, calm, good-humoured, kind and caring and they appear to like and respect elderly persons.
If you are looking for an exemplary care home for your loved one, consider Ashgrove first. If I ever need one, hope you're all still there!

A big thank you to all the staff that cared, supported and nursed my dad in his final months. Without these dedicated staff I don’t know how we would have coped. I also want to thank them for the help and support given to our family as he sadly passed away last month, but it was very peaceful and calm.
Some of the staff attended his funeral and we respect them and thank them for doing so. His wife remains under their wing; she is happy and contented with her carers and loves the activities, they keep her going as she lives with vascular dementia. A lovely care home in nice surroundings with great staff, which we truly appreciate.

I have been in the care sector for 40 + years. This by far is the best place I know. From the moment Mum and family arrived we were all treated with respect and dignity. I was given a room close to Mum's and all meals and drinks. I cannot thank the manager, nurses or carers enough. I highly recommend
Ashgrove Nursing Home. Even after Mum's passing 28 hours after arriving the staff were there for us.

Both parents are in Ashgrove Care Home and both have different needs. They are both well cared for and without this, I doubt that, in all honesty, they would still be here as it was getting dangerous in their own environment. We have peace of mind that their care needs are well met by the Ashgrove team.

Reply from Rahi Joshi, Head Office at Ashgrove Care Home

It is our pleasure to have your parents in our home and we ensure to maintain high standards of care at all times. Thank you for sharing your experience with us, the home team would be happy to receive such kind words.

Rahi

Mum is no longer isolated, and although she has dementia and it can't be corrected, her general mental health has had a boost and uplift. I feel this is due to the overall care and attention from the carers, the resident and the stream of different thoughtful activities.
Mum's voice is, "this is my
home here, and I am with a good crowd".

Reply from Amanda Griffiths, Manager at Ashgrove Care Home

My experience of the care home overall is good. My sister has dementia and does not know where she is so cannot tell me how she is taken care of but my experience from my visits shows the staff are very caring and do a very hard job. Sometimes her room is untidy but I care more that she is looked after
and treated well. I know she can be difficult at times.

Reply from Amanda Griffiths, Manager at Ashgrove Care Home

Thank you for this review. The carers do work exceptionally hard to ensure each resident has a positive experience. On your next visit, we would love to show you the new furbished areas which enhance our current facilities. A variety of meals and drinks are provided to the required choices and textures for each resident which your sister continues to enjoy. This is one of the really important aspects of care that Ashgrove embraces. Looking forward to seeing you on your next visit.

My sister spent approximately 5 months in the nursing wing of the care home before she recently passed away. The support and understanding that I have received from the manager has been second to none, she always made time for me if I had any questions or concerns and I knew she would ensure that my
sister was well cared for, and her needs would be met. All of the staff have been amazing, treating my sister with respect, patience, dignity, and also humour, which she appreciated and loved. It's the people who make this Home the place that it is, and I cannot praise them highly enough. I would recommend it to anyone considering having a loved one cared for there.

So far it has been really good, Mum has been made to feel very welcome. A few things I have asked for have been met with positivity. We're very happy so far but she's only been here 2 days. Just hope her care continues as she's end-of-life care

Current Review Score: 8.0 (8.038)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.0 (8.038) out of 10 for Ashgrove Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.7 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.713 for Ashgrove Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (62 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (29 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 115 Ratings = 3.713

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.325 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashgrove Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 56 registered maximum number of service users is 11.2. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.2 = 0.625

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
