My father was a resident at Chestnut Lodge from March 2024 until his death in February 2024. Throughout his time here he was treated with respect and understanding, and the care he was shown, often in challenging circumstances due to his worsening dementia, was exemplary. My family and I were very regular
visitors - between us we were there around 4 times a week, often more - and we got to know the wonderful carers and nursing staff well, and were able to observe first-hand the care he was given. The highly experienced senior management team inspired confidence, and showed great compassion throughout his stay. We are hugely grateful for the care and professionalism shown by the wonderful team there, who go above and beyond, in challenging circumstances, to look after the residents.

The first time my mum, who is very young with early onset Alzheimer's, has stayed in a care home for respite. The staff have been truly wonderful from start to finish and made my mum feel comfortable and safe and she really enjoyed her stay. This also helped ease my own sense of anxiety about leaving
her. Thank you so much for looking after her so well.

I have visited different times of the day - always clean and welcoming. My mum is not encouraged to use a walking stick which she went in with and hospital advised. I understand it's now lost/gone missing. A secure post box into the office would be a great help as I pay the bill by cheque, having to
get staff to put it into the office each time. Never has her hearing aids in, it's hard I know but she needs them and I just got new ones in December at £500 because the last home lost hers. Overall - great place on hygiene, food (I think), staff but a lot of money each week for things not to be getting 100%.

When you next visit, please either speak to me or one of the nurses so we can update on your mother's care needs, mobility, hearing, etc. We have at least two nurses working every day and I'm here Monday to Friday. Our receptionist can assist you to set up a Direct Debit to make your life easier. Thank you for your suggestion of a secure post box into our reception, we will look into that. I will pass on your praise for the domestic and care teams.

The team at Chestnut Lodge looked after my mother from April 2023 until her death in December 2024. I can not praise them enough for the care that they provided for my mother or the great dignity with which she was treated as her dementia became worse toward the end of her life. Everyone at Chestnut
lodge treated her with care, compassion and respect. On behalf of my family and myself I would like to thank them all for providing her with a safe and comfortable home for the past two years.

The decision to move our mum into a nursing home was very difficult for our family, but from the very first visit to view Chestnut Lodge, we knew we had found the right home where she would be taken care of. We were immediately told not to worry and that they would take care of our mum, and from then
onwards the whole team at Chestnut Lodge provided the most unbelievable love, care and support not only to my mum, but to our entire family. From the amazing carers to the excellent nursing staff and the thoughtful and considerate management team they showed such a high level of care that we all felt looked after and part of their family and we can never thank them enough. We cannot speak highly enough about the entire Chestnut Lodge family and would not hesitate to recommend them.

It was hard when my wife went into permanent care. I visited her every day at different times to watch her and how she related to being in care and how the staff performed. It was wonderful to see the care they gave, not only to her but to all the residents. I am well pleased with the home she is in
and would recommend it to others.

Chestnut Lodge is a very efficient and organised nursing home. The staff have given my wife every respect and dignity during her 11 months at the home. The well trained staff have also been of great help to me during very difficult times which is greatly appreciated.
I would definitely recommend this

Chestnut Lodge has been a wonderful find for my father. Prior to moving in at the beginning of March, he had stayed in 2 other care homes where he was very unsettled and the homes were not able to manage him. From the moment that he arrived at Chestnut Lodge, we were reassured by staff that he would
settle and that they would be able to cope with his anxieties, confusion, and outbursts. This was something that we were not sure we would ever get to hear. True to their word, the manager and his wonderful caring team have allowed my father the time to settle in and they in turn have made great efforts to get to know him and understand his specific needs. This has been a very difficult journey for my father and the rest of the family but the incredible staff have made this easier for us all. We are so grateful for everything that you are doing for him, nothing is too much trouble and we know that he is now in the very best hands. Thank you from us all.

Visited my grandmother for her birthday the staff was so friendly allowing us to use the lounge privately for celebrations for the family. Tea and coffee were supplied to use and popping in to check we were ok.
Staff were always engaging with Nan so lovely to see her happy here.

The first time I walked into Chestnut Lodge. I knew it was a special place. I had a warm welcome from the staff and they were helpful. Always offered a cup of tea. No questions seem too silly to ask. Given time to look around. Wow, it's a beautiful clean home. The food looked delicious. Just where you
need your loved ones to be cared for with care love fun and dignity.

Such kind, caring staff who genuinely care. Staff always ready to listen and reassure family. Good-sized rooms. I have seen many homes in my professional career and Chestnut Lodge is the only one I would recommend and also be happy to have a relative in. Fully supported through the end-of-life process.

I found Chestnut Lodge Care Home to be the most loving and caring home whilst my husband resided there. I couldn't fault in any way. The staff were wonderful, caring and showed tenderness and love to all the residents whilst doing a very exhausting job and I applaud them. We could not do without them.

Chestnut Lodge has been amazing from my first call to see if respite was a possibility, to my first visit to see the care home. The staff are all very welcoming, making the move go like clockwork.
Staff have been very accommodating with extending the respite period from one week to now three weeks
due to unforeseen circumstances.
We as a family are very appreciative of all that the care home has done for us as a family at a difficult time.
We are very pleased with the care on offer. Thank you all.

Chestnut Lodge cared for my Dad for the last six months of his life as his mobility and memory declined. He became a resident shortly after it opened in April 2023 as his needs could no longer be met by his previous home.
I found the manager and deputy manager to be very experienced and the nursing
and other staff genuinely caring and attentive. When I was not able to visit, they kept me regularly informed. The building, rooms and facilities are high quality.
I am very grateful for the care my Dad received and would recommend this home to any other families whose loved one requires a similar level of care.

My wife entered the lodge with Parkinson's disease and dementia. From the start she was treated with the utmost kindness by all the staff. Her eating and drinking was problematic and every effort was made to entice her to have snacks rather than set meals. She remained content and cared for till the
very end.

Graham Oakes

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2022

Graham trained as an RGN at Yeovil Hospital and later managed care homes and domiciliary care companies. He has almost 40 years of experience since leaving the NHS.


His passion is dementia care and was excited to be given the opportunity to open a new care home in his hometown, Yeovil, providing quality care for older people living with dementia.
