It is hard to explain my peace, inner peace, to know my father is in such a lovely place. To say they care is not fair, they go far beyond this. Thank you Astbury Mere, genuine thanks from someone who was so scared to leave his Dad in a home.

My mum has only been in Astbury Mere for just over a month but have found all the staff to be very professional, helpful, and caring towards my mum and all the family. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a residential home for a relative.

My brother and I have no doubt that our Mum is simply in the best place at Astbury Mere. The dedication, compassion, and caring nature of all the staff made the move for Mum and us as her family so much better than we anticipated. Prior to her illness, Mum was always incredibly house proud and the ambience
of Astbury Mere is that of a good quality hotel, it is immaculately clean and like a home from home. The vibe is one of positivity and it is a delight to see and hear that Mum has been involved in the activities on offer. She seems to be flourishing in her new home which is wonderfully reassuring for us all. All in all, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend Astbury Mere Care Home if you want the best of the best for your relative.

My Mum was unfortunately in the last stage of her life when she went to Astbury Mere Care Home, but the care, respect, and kindness that the staff showed all of us as a family was wonderful. From reception to nursing and care staff we couldn’t have asked for better, they were helpful, accommodating,
and kind when we needed it most. They made the unbearable bearable and I am extremely grateful, thank you.

My mum recently went into Astbury Mere for some respite care. She was there for a few weeks and during this time was very well looked after. During a period where she was quite poorly, the staff aided with her recovery and kept me updated with her progress. She enjoyed participating in some of the activities
when she was well enough to do so and made some lovely friends at the same time. The staff were wonderful with her and made her feel very welcome.

This was my fourth visit to Astbury for respite care. On arrival, it was reassuring to see that a number of staff were in attendance from earlier stays. It was apparent that restrictions caused by covid had had an impact on the business and added to a number of poorly residents needing constant care
and attention plus seemingly staff shortages, meant that the care I received overall was not as good as previous stays. eg I was often late going for breakfast perhaps to some a minor matter and I understand that this could sometimes happen but!
It was disappointing that I had forwarded by email details of my conditions, medications, etc and because I could no longer use a slide sheet and banana board to transfer from wheelchair to commode chair or to and from bed, etc would need to be by sling and hoist. I took with me my own sling which was supplied by Occupational Health in conjunction with physiotherapist advice which unfortunately initial use caused problems with some although not all of the care team. Perhaps this would have been avoided as prior to previous stays a nurse had visited me at home to go through my condition and needs overall. Quality Respite Care provision is an important factor, hence my regular visits to Astbury. I hope my comments will be helpful.

Overall my mum is really happy at Astbury. She receives excellent care and is treated with care and compassion at all times. She loves the staff and is very fond of some of the carers who she says go above and beyond. Personally, my only criticism is the visiting is very limited which has been very
difficult for us all as a close family.

We have been really impressed by the care that Mum has been given and the home is extremely clean. We have always found the members of staff to be helpful. Mum loves the food and we will definitely come back for respite stays in the future.

My wife stays at Astbury Care Home for a week respite at least twice a year. I had previously tried another home a couple of times and had been extremely upset by the condition my wife was in when I returned to pick her up. I do not think keeping a person clean and well looked after is such a difficult
thing to do. Here at Astbury my wife comes out clean and looking much like I keep her looking. The staff are so kind and caring and really care about her.

I'm very pleased with my parents' care at Astbury Mere. They have been really well looked after for two years. My mother has struggled during the lockdown, and her physical and mental health deteriorated. Astbury Mere staff have been great, showing her loving care and attention through this difficult
period. The home has been excellent during the lockdown, demonstrating a very high level of safety. Well done, everyone.

My father has been a resident at Astbury Mere Care Home in Congleton for just under 11 years. He was one of the first residents to be admitted when the home opened in 2010. His care has been excellent and I have also felt supported by the staff during times when Dad was quite poorly. He recently had
his 100th birthday and although he is bedridden and we were unable to celebrate with him because of the pandemic, the staff gave him a great day and sent us photo's of the occasion. I would recommend Astbury Mere to anyone who needs to find care for their relative.

I am so delighted with the service we are receiving from the staff at Astbury Mere. They give us regular updates about our loved one and nothing is too much trouble. Since moving here our loved one is enjoying his food and has even put on weight! He has been given extra help to stand and get into a
chair rather than just using a hoist all the time, and been encouraged to try! The staff are very friendly to us as well as our loved one, all in all, we are very happy indeed that we moved from another home to Astbury Mere.

My mum has been a resident in Astbury Mere for three weeks. The staff have been very helpful and made mum feel comfortable from the beginning. Mum seems to be much happier, her appetite appears to have improved and she is much more interested in what is going on. As far as the family are concerned,
although there are restrictions due to Covid, the staff keep us informed at all times and are always happy to answer any questions.

Mum has only been at Astbury for a few weeks and as a family, we were concerned about the transition to Astbury from another care setting and the impact it would have on mum. We needn’t have worried though, the move was seamless, and mum took it all in her stride.

since has been excellent. Mum is now settled and happy in her new home.

Hello, my name is Emma, and I have worked at Astbury Mere since we opened in 2010.


I am a registered general nurse and that is where my career with Porthaven Care Homes began. Over the past thirteen years, I have progressed with the company, becoming deputy and home manager.


I have an excellent team working alongside me, and we work as one unit to support our wonderful residents and their families, as well as each other. I am incredibly proud when people describe Astbury Mere as a 'happy home'.

Hello, my name is Dawn Robson, and I am the Home Trainer here at Astbury Mere.


I have worked in the care sector for over 30 years, and I have worked at Astbury Mere for 12 years. I have a Level 3 qualification in Education and Training, am trained in Dementia Care Mapping and have acquired many other qualifications over the years that I use in my role.


As a home trainer, I source and help provide any training that is required within our home so that our team can continue to learn and grow in confidence and experience. Alongside this, I support our residents in a way that enables them to maintain their independence, which I find incredibly rewarding.
