My brother has been at Abbey Court Care Home for three weeks, he has settled in really well. The staff are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble. The room is lovely and clean, the bathroom is also spotless. He joins in any activity that is happening.

My husband has been at Abbey Court Care Home since June. He has Alzheimer's dementia, the staff are brilliant, they are kind, supportive and go that extra mile to keep them clean and happy as possible. The management is also brilliant, telling me if any problems with my husband and supporting me and
making me feel at home. The whole place is clean and tidy, the cleaners are health and safety conscious most of the time cleaning two if not three times a day after meals. They are caring to all the residents that are there. Could not have found a better place for my husband. Gold star for all staff for all their hard work. Thank You.

My husband is on the Forget Me Not Unit, the care he is receiving since being admitted is 100% he isn't the easiest person to deal with at times but through all his time there he has been treated with respect and kindness at all times. The staff and management have kept me up to date on everything they
do for him, I am so happy he is being looked after with the utmost kindness and care.

My dear wife suffers from deep depression and has done so for 40+ years. She also has aggressive lower body Parkinson's. She was accepted at Abbey Court in October 2018. Both I and the family are and always have been delighted with the care given to the dear lady. Times have been tough but the staff
here are excellent, simply excellent.

My husband has been with Priory for the last 3 years in two of your homes. The care he has received on both accounts has been excellent and I can't praise them enough, not only to my husband but to me as well. Thank you.

The carers were great but short-staffed. Sometimes you never saw a carer and had to look around to find one. Turnover of managers is high. Items of Mum's went missing and requested what music she liked but it was never played to her. Entertainment was hit and miss and that's if they got taken to the
entertainment. Mealtimes are not structured well. Sometimes breakfast was given at 10am. Clothes were slung in the bottom of her wardrobe even though we provided loads of coat hangers which never came back with her clothes on. Asking staff to call when she needed things and I hardly got any calls. Asked nurses and one of the lady managers to remove clothes that were too big and tell me what she needed, it happened once. One senior nurse took it into her own hands to stop a patch without consulting us first. When Mum passed away I was promised her ornaments would be wrapped in her clothes to prevent damage but they, along with her other stuff was slung in a box, like she didn't matter.

My mum-in-law reached the stage in her life when it was necessary to move to residential/nursing home care. Having looked at several providers I noted Abbey Court has a good CQC review. Luckily they had an available room! From assessment to moving in and continuing care, we have been very impressed.
The home is beautifully laid out and spotlessly clean. Mum's room is able to accommodate all her needs.

This care home and all the staff are fantastic - from care staff, nurses, management, laundry and cleaners are so professional and personable to residents. This establishment has restored my faith, opened my eyes and made me appreciate what hard work all the staff put in and the difficulties and challenges
they face, but help you as relatives overcome.
They have been so “on the ball” with my Mum, showing her utmost dignity and respect, right up to and even after her passing away. We as a family and my Mum couldn’t have asked for more.

On hindsight, I wished I had complained to the manager when my husband first went into Abbey Court.
My main complaints are as follows:- Not enough staff
1 Leg bag wasn't checked/emptied.
2 New leg bag wasn't changed for the first two weeks.
3 Bed linen is old and stained.
4 When my husband refused
personal care, staff just left him in bed instead of having the authority to coax him.
5 The ensuite floor and toilet not cleaned thoroughly.
6 Clothes missing.

The staff are friendly, however, personal care my father has received so far appears to be sporadic.
Vomit stained sheets still on the bed three days later. Towels in the bathroom with more holes than towel!
Personal pads placed in the room for my mum to put on him if she thought necessary. We had
to insist he had cream put on his bottom which was sore - we were told this hadn't broken the skin so was not required. Duvet cover as a bottom sheet on the bed, the list goes on...

My mother was lucky enough to spend the last few months of her life in Bluebell Unit at Abbey Court, the standard of care was excellent and the dignity given was second to none. She was not an easy patient but the staff were wonderful in their treatment of her. Also, the care and support given to the
family up to the end and beyond was first class, I cannot express how grateful we were to everyone.

Reply from Cathy Charley, Home Manager at Abbey Court Care Home

My wife has severe vascular dementia and I am her sole carer. I found myself physically unable to look after her and had to accept that she would have to go into care for a couple of weeks while I recovered. This is a situation I have dreaded as I could not face the thought of her going into care. I
chose Abbey Court because I knew someone who was very happy with the care his wife was receiving. How glad I am that I did. From the moment my wife got into her room she seemed very relaxed and settled into her chair and fell asleep. She obviously felt safe and secure and I found it very easy to leave her there. During the two weeks she was there, she received care of a high standard. Every day when I visited she was relaxed and happy and all those who were caring for her were genuinely caring and provided the very best care that they could. If my wife has to go into care in the future, I hope that there is a spare room in Abbey Court. Thanks to all her carers.

Visited my aunt this afternoon for the first time in her new home. The receptionist was very approachable, welcomed me with a smile and requested two carers to show me the way to the first-floor lounge. They were more than happy to help and directed me to my aunt. I was in time for the tea round and
was offered a cup a long with my aunt. The lounge had a very calm atmosphere and there was a sufficient amount of carers available for the residents' needs as well as mine. Very impressed at the high standards and professionalism of all the staff I had the pleasure to meet this afternoon.

My husband, in the advanced stages of Alzheimers Disease, is not the easiest of residents. However, at all times, he is dealt with kindness, respect and consideration. Importantly, all staff are warm friendly and professional and are also supportive of family and friends. I have no hesitation in recommending
Abbey Court to anybody who needs to find caring, welcoming yet professional care for their loved one.

A caring environment with good sized rooms. Great staff and good food. The only downside is the cost but lowering would mean less staff for patients, or rather more patients for staff member.

My nan has only been in this care home for a short period and is settling in well. The staff already have a good understanding of her and I have just been to the fun day which was lovely, seeing my nan sitting alongside new friends she had made, laughing along at the circus skills. It was a lovely afternoon
to see visitors, residents and staff all getting involved. They really do make an effort and it is such a warm welcoming place to visit.

Current Review Score: 8.2 (8.170)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.2 (8.170) out of 10 for Abbey Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.750 for Abbey Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (29 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 4.75

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.42 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbey Court Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 88 registered maximum number of service users is 17.6. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 17.6 = 0.17

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
