My mother became a resident of Nelson Manor on 20.12.19. Throughout her time there she has been treated with dignity, compassion and respect. The staff are all excellent in their treatment of all the residents. Nothing is too much trouble and they always have a smile and warm greeting for my Mum and
all her family and friends when they are visiting. Nelson Manor is warm and welcoming from the moment you walk through the door. Everyone is treated as an individual with their own needs being met in a professional but friendly manner. Nelson Manor has many activities for those who are able to participate - quizzes, crafts, visiting singers, school etc. I cannot fault Nelson Manor and would recommend this care centre to anyone. Keep up the excellent work.

My brother has been a resident in the Nursing Unit for six months. He receives excellent care from the nurses and the care staff. He is treated with love, compassion, respect and dignity. His needs are promptly and carefully anticipated. Every effort is made by everyone to improve his quality of life.
The manager is very professional and cares deeply about her residents. She has taken time to get to know my brother, and I have every confidence that she will always do her best to ensure his needs are appropriately met. Nelson Manor is a warm and friendly environment. All the staff contribute to this. Family members and friends are known and made to feel very welcome. I have no doubt that Nelson Manor is the best place for my brother. I have no hesitation in recommending it.

My father has been a resident for the last 7 months and I can't speak highly enough of the Manager and her staff. I have complete peace of mind that my father is being cared for to the best of the staff's ability and he is completely settled at Nelson Manor.

My wife thought it was a posh hotel when admitted.
I have been treated with respect and I am known by my first name which they use all the time.
Our thanks to all the staff for making it a happy stay.

Very good care and attention to my mother overall.
She suffers from dementia and on the second floor.
Our only not so positive comment is the hairdressing. Mother's hair is not well looked after, in spite of the regular payments made for this service.

My experience with my mum's care is mostly good, it's clean, tidy, the staff are friendly and helpful. It's the small things that matter, like teeth not soaked overnight., her hair not brushed, clothes going missing with her name on them, putting the mat down when in her room. She goes to the bathroom,
no one is there to keep an eye on her - it's written on a wall chart, what Mum needs. She misses out on some of the activities. I come 5 times a week. She does scream or shout, she likes a bit of peace. The small lunge is full and noisy. Do not put Mum in the big lounge.

We cannot thank all the staff at Nelson Manor care home enough. They have been brilliant. Taking great care of my mother (even though she can be very difficult at times). They have been very good with my father as an elderly visitor.

The Manager and all her staff on the Jubilee Dementia Unit are wonderful - they cannot do enough for you.
My mum is deteriorating and the care is second to none - my sister and I can sleep easy at night, knowing that our precious mum is well cared for by genuinely caring, friendly staff. The food
is very good - though mum is no longer well enough to eat much. All staff try very hard to ensure she is kept fully hydrated, and ensure that she does not develop pressure sores as she is so frail now. All staff treat mum with dignity and respect, which is essential as mum has always been fiercely dependent throughout her life. Staff get around that, with patience and compassion, and they gain mum's trust enough so that she will accept help to keep her dry and comfortable. I cannot find anything negative to say about Nelson Manor Care Centre - if your relative needs to enter a Care Home, you will not go wrong if you choose Nelson Manor. A wonderful service and wonderful staff.

Extremely friendly staff, caring environment, staff focus on patients and check on them regularly.
Clean and homely atmosphere.
An effort is made to accommodate patients individual needs, e.g. meal preferences (the chef is very proactive and friendly).

The staff have been very kind and helpful to the family. It appears that the staff have tried hard to meet my father's needs. He has been kept comfortable and they have responded well to his changing health needs.

Mum moved into Nelson Manor in September 2014. Without the support of the outstanding staff and their care, Mum and our family would have really struggled. The home is practical and provides the space for living needs, including access for emergency care.
The facilities allow Mum to maintain simple
and important elements to enjoy her final years.
The staff have given outstanding care and support to Mum. They are considerate, treat her as part of the Nelson Manor family and have allowed her to maintain dignity.
We trust them to care for her as well as we could and throughout our time they have offered endless support for the family.
We are truly grateful for Nelson Manor, with them we have enjoyed many extra years together.

My experience of Nelson Manor Care Centre over the last twelve months has been one of continued improvements by management and staff. I find the staff all very easy to talk to and ask about things relating to my mother's care.

This home has been so badly run over many years. As I have worked in care, I noticed many bad practices and reported it to CQC. Now the home has new managers and staff and apparently an owner who is committed to the home and works closely with his staff. After the bad, you now have a very well run home
with managers who are hands-on who have worked their "butts" off to achieve a well-run caring and compassionate home. They work with families so their relatives get the best care they can achieve. Well done to you all.

I would highly recommend Nelson Manor to take care of your family member. I have found all staff to be friendly, helpful and caring and always willing to listen to any concerns or questions I have. Everyone is treated with the utmost respect and given a wealth of encouragement to carry on with their
everyday lives. Residents are not only cared for, they are talked to and given choices to lead as normal a life as possible in a safe and secure setting. I have found the nursing staff, carers, admin and management, all more than willing to go the extra mile to ensure my father's needs are met.

Nelson Manor accepted my father as an emergency admission on a Sunday - the only care home which was prepared to do so of the large number we contacted. Immediately supportive and helpful, these are qualities which have been apparent throughout my father's stay. His care has been exemplary, all staff
being friendly and positive about the establishment and the care they provide. We felt that on our initial visit and they have been aspects evident whenever we have visited.

My father, a man with a rather critical disposition, has settled well and is very positive and grateful for the care he receives. We consider the staff to be ultimate professionals and we have quickly learnt to trust them implicitly - this coming from my partner - an NHS governance manager with a nursing background. We have also been impressed by the employment of full-time activities co-ordinator and maintenance man.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.066)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.066) out of 10 for Nelson Manor Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.866 for Nelson Manor Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (73 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 82 Ratings = 4.866

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.2 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Nelson Manor Care Centre is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 14 = 0.5

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
