I think the care was excellent. They treated me well but I was on my own too much because a lot of the people have been here a long time and did not know me, but the staff were wonderful.

Well, what can l say! This is the third stay of one week's respite at Waterfield House for my mum and it's the third time both Mum and I have experienced wonderful care, thoughtfulness, consideration and patience from staff and management.
Management encourage communication with their staff and for
me, that is vital.
I am a self confessed "high maintenance" daughter and yet, without exception, I am always greeted with beautiful smiles and offered complete support.
I know how difficult it is to be a carer, so it is with sincerity that I say this group from Waterfield House are to be commended.

My mother has lived here for over a year now and is very well looked after in the upstairs dementia wing. Staff are welcoming and respectful. Staff encourage residents to participate in a range of activities and mum enjoys these. The staff are always prompt in contacting us if there are any health or
other issues with mum. Every three months staff and family review the care plan and we are able to discuss if any changes are needed, discuss any concerns we have and discuss things mum has done during this time.
This is a very calm, well run home and I am pleased we found this home for mum.

When the care home my grandmother was resided in closed in May 2016, we took the opportunity to move her to Waterfield House to be closer to her grandchildren. The home has been excellent, everything we could want for our grandmother, who has quite severe dementia. The staff are all wonderful, friendly,
caring and compassionate, and they keep us up to date with any issues concerning her. The home itself is large, light and airy and the resident's bedrooms are very spacious and always kept clean and tidy.
The keypad entry to the home and the dementia floor is a reassuring feature and the coffee shop and garden areas are great to be able to use whenever we visit. Our grandmother says she enjoys the food and activities which she regularly joins in with.
We are extremely appreciative of the care our grandmother receives at this home and can highly recommend it.

At the age of 85, my mother was made homeless and was placed temporarily in Waterfield House. Although a 100-mile round trip each week to visit her, it soon became apparent that this is where she was happy and wanted to remain. The care she received in her eighteen months here was exceptional and the
facilities excellent. All the staff, from carers, cleaners, management at all levels, friendly, approachable and always available when needed. Unfortunately, mother has just passed away but we will always be indebted to Waterfield House for making her final eighteen months so happy and a place she always referred to as home.

The review if for my sisters in law. The first time they accessed this facility, they appeared to be very happy with stay (3 nights) and we have already booked an April stay to enable me to go away for a week or so. So yes, very pleased so far. I cannot comment really on their behalf, just what I have
seen/heard.

My aunt was a resident here for about 5 years and was happy and well cared for. Food was excellent and the staff were friendly, cheerful and kind. In her own words, she felt safe here.

Having used this home for my mother-in-law and now for my aunt, I have nothing but praise for it. It is the home you always hope you can select for a loved one and my wife and I are grateful we chose this one.
The home has a wonderful ambience and a kind and friendly staff. We would never hesitate
to recommend this home to anybody.

Firstly the home itself is light and airy and doesn't have any unpleasant smells. It is welcoming. The staff have gone beyond what was necessary. When my mother was admitted to the home her needs were better suited to a nursing home, but as she has already adapted to the home they were reluctant to
move her again, and so went the extra mile to accommodate my mother's needs, making the last few months of her life as comfortable as possible.
This included preparing special meals for her as she had difficulty swallowing, also being attentive as to when she had urinary infections so she could be given antibiotics and therefore made more comfortable.

Just a few more things to do as I got a bit bored. Some weeks it was hard to talk to them,I kept falling asleep so I think you should think of some more stuff to do. Everyone was friendly.
Thanks for your time.

My mother didn't want to go into respite care home but after two weeks of respite she didn't want to come home. She says the food was very good and the staff were lovely and she had made many friends there. She can't wait for her next respite time.

I have found the manager and staff to be very supportive concerning my aunt's move from sheltered accommodation in Devon to the dementia unit at Waterfield House. She has settled in very well, everywhere is immaculately clean, and the staff are always cheerful and approachable. I have put some of
my aunt's own furniture and pictures in the room to help her feel at home, friendships are encouraged, and she is enjoying the food. The garden is a lovely place to sit. Relatives are encouraged to become involved in events at the home. I am delighted that my aunt is now so near to me, and is safe and well cared-for.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.710)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.710) out of 10 for Waterfield House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.549 for Waterfield House is calculated as follows: ( (64 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 91 Ratings = 4.549

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.161 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Waterfield House is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 76 registered maximum number of service users is 15.2. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 15.2 = 0.461

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
