The staff at Cotman house have provided my sister with a safe and caring home in which to live. My sister was very poorly and in the hospital before being moved to Cotman House and since then I have been able to relax and know she is safe and well looked after in every respect. My wife and I are particularly
grateful to all the staff for their commitment to the welfare of the residents during this incredibly difficult year. Thank you.

We visited my cousin for the first time for many months and were delighted to find her looking so well. She has settled very well at Cotman House and this is because she is now having meals that are appropriate for her condition, her general wellbeing has been greatly improved and has allowed her medication
to be reduced.
Because the COVID restrictions do not allow visitors to access the all of facilities provided, it is difficult to give a full review of the items below.

I cannot speak highly enough about the facility of Cotman House and especially the management and all the careers there. My mum came in as an alternative to hospital admission with complicated care needs both physical, mental and cognitive. The care was extraordinary and I must say I have never seen
Mum so well as once she’d settled there. Even despite her decline she was happy and wonderfully looked after while a resident.

My Mum arrived at Cotman House on 1st April 2020 after having surgery for a broken hip as she was too unwell to return home. She stayed until the end of August and the care that she received throughout an extremely difficult and challenging time was amazing. She was clearly very happy and well looked
after and we felt very reassured that she was being extremely well looked after at a time where we were not able to visit her.
All staff on every phone call kept us very well informed about her progress and nothing was too much trouble for them.
Once garden visits were allowed this was very well organised and all the rules of the visits were clearly communicated to the family.

I just want to express my gratitude and thanks to everyone at Cotman House. Their care and hard work during this pandemic has been brilliant. The staff are very obviously well-led and this has shown in the care my father has received since he came into their care in February. I am also impressed with
all the hard work that has gone into making provision for the family to visit. My father is happy and well cared for which after the loss of my mother is a burden lifted. Pass on our thanks to everyone and keep doing what you are doing it is appreciated.

During these unforeseen circumstances (COVID-19) you can imagine the stress and worry that has put on our families. Cotman House has really changed that for the better. It provides above and beyond care for their residents, including my father. He is extremely well looked after and enjoys his time there.
The home itself is beautiful and my father are very well looked after there.
I would recommend this care home for many great reasons being the care they provide and also the great support and communication they give to our family.

Cotman House have been fantastic at welcoming and integrating my grandad into the home, especially during such challenging times (Coronavirus impact). They’ve been very responsive to our contact and requests, as well as keeping us informed with how he’s doing. Finally, they’ve been very helpful in doing
all they can to help us keep some sort of contact with him, via phone/FaceTime.
I now can’t wait until we can visit the home and see him in person.

Staff are friendly and welcoming. Manager, deputy and office staff always available to deal with concerns and usually to a high standard. Over the current crisis, they have been very helpful and provided Facetime so we can see our mum, who has difficulty communicating verbally. They have read her letters
we have sent and passed on all necessities we have dropped at the home. The carers work so hard and always treat us with kindness and respect. I do think however that carers should be left to their roles as carers and not kitchen or laundry duties. I know staff do support each other but they are sometimes just too busy to be carrying out these roles and I know they would like more time to spend with residents.

My father entered Cotman House following the sudden death of my mother. The staff have done an excellent job in helping him to adjust to his new living arrangements. He has settled quickly and I although I am only able to talk to him via the phone due to visiting restrictions around Covid, he seems
more positive in his outlook than I would have expected given how difficult the last few months have been for him.
The management have promised to lift the current draconian restrictions around any visiting/contact the moment it is possible to do so, showing an awareness of how important contact with loved ones is for residents wellbeing. I really look forward to this being in the very near future.
Thank you to all at Cotman who do such a good job.

Mum has been so happy at this home for three years. Now that she has moved to end of life care, we have been overwhelmed by the love and care that surrounds her and our family. Part of the reason that Mum had no fear about this phase of her life is because she had already noticed the respect and love
the carers gave to other terminally ill residents. She used to say 'I know they'll take good care of me', and you are doing so, thank you.

My mum was a resident at Cotman House for three years and was extremely happy for the whole of her stay. The view of the sea from her window cheered her immensely, and the staff were constantly popping in to make sure she was comfortable and had everything she needed. I could not name any particular
member of staff as they are all lovely. The food is made by chefs on the premises, and is appetising and tailored to the needs of each resident. The staff plan great activities every day and trips out to the locality. Mum particularly enjoyed the arts, where the staff created new and inventive things to do every time, and she was proud of her little artworks. If you are thinking of becoming a resident for yourself/a relative you could not do better. I have seen how the staff have cared for residents who might do repetitive things that another care home might find annoying, but here they manage it with a great sense of humour and kindness. Mum could not have found a better place. Thanks so much!

Cotman is an excellent care home. I've had experience of one other. Staff ignored us. Here the staff are always attentive. My buzzer is answered in a short time. Attention is given to my needs. I never feel lonely. There is always someone around. The food is good and varied. I always get what I ask
for. Very happy staff, happy together, no grizzling.

Cotman is in a beautiful location with lovely gardens and lovely views. It is very peaceful and calm. Staff organise daily activities to stimulate and entertain residents and build relationships. My mum has enjoyed outings to the seaside, shopping, a concert and the viewing point. She enjoys visitors
organised by the home, such as toddler visits, musical concerts, therapy dogs and films. There are regular fun activities, such as flower arranging, arts and crafts and keep fit. The kind staff and stimulating environment have enabled my mum to enjoy a fulfilled safe and happy period of her life.

I have assisted my former husband to settle in at Cotman House since he moved there in October 2018. I am very pleased that, in the last few months, there has been a substantial improvement in the quality of care provided. I believe that this can be attributed to the skills of the new manager and
an increase in staffing levels contributing to an ambience of calm efficiency and a sense that everyone is committed to doing their very best for the residents in a serene and safe environment.

My mother is shortly to celebrate her 96th birthday and has been a resident at Cotman House for 3 years. She sees Cotman as 'home'. Staff are unfailingly kind and warm - they care deeply and treat her with dignity - but with a great sense of humour too. Mum feels safe, loved and like one of the family.
The varied activities are amazing - keep fit and art to name a few. We as a family are delighted that mum lives in a happy, caring place.

The staff does everything possible for my mother with patience and empathy. The room although small has a lovely balcony now overlooking the sea and the room is comfortable with facilities. The staff work extremely hard. Staffing levels fluctuate at times.

I was very disappointed to discover that yet again the main lift was out of order.
This appears to happen all too frequently and although it is reported quickly, repairs can take a week.
The enormous pressure that this puts on staff having to transport everything by stairs and the potential of isolation
for residents seems to me to be unacceptable.
Surely for any firm, the repair of a lift in a care home should be dealt with as an absolute priority and a repair effected immediately.

The main lift is again out of action - the second time since June 2018.
This limits the freedom of residents to get about - for meals etc and, no doubt puts an additional strain upon the staff.
However, all staff remain bright and friendly.

My dad lived at Cotman House for two and a half years, until his changing needs meant he had to move to nursing care. My experience has been entirely positive. The staff seem genuinely caring and treat residents as individuals - in my Dad's care that meant supporting his complex needs (dementia and
lifelong visual impairment) in a really positive way. The facilities are great - we had happy times with my dad in the cafe and garden. Dad really enjoyed the food. I'd also say the activities team are brilliant!

Kirsty is incredibly enthusiastic and loves that every day at Cotman House is different. Her passion for the role is infectious, and she tries to come up with new ways of working and new ideas on how to improve practice on a daily basis.
