The Forge Care Centre is a purpose built modern care home, located in Ely close to all local amenities. Situated on a main bus route with links to Cardiff central and Barry.

This high quality 76 bedroomed home provides person centred nursing and dementia care in a warm and homely environment. Set over four independent floors, each room is tastefully furnished and has an en-suite bathroom. Residents can enjoy personalised facilities within the home and private landscaped outdoor areas.

A wide range of activities are available and there are regular visits to the home by a chiropodist, GP, Vision Call opticians, dentist and hairdresser.

Very person-centred. Very flexible. Extremely caring. Accommodating activity team. Food, meals excellent. End of live care outstanding. I was able to sleep by Dad's side and stay with him 24/7. Even a camp bed was provided for me. Chefs made meals for me. Every member of the team from manager, chefs,
cleaners, carers, nurses, and activity team are a credit to the care home industry. Please be proud. Team always put residents first. The Forge really is a big family. We feel blessed that Dad called it home.

I can only repeat what my sister has said, The Forge Care Home has been exceptional all the time from the day my mum went into The Forge the care and respect shown to my mother were exceptional, not just to our beautiful mum but to our family. I personally became very friendly with many of the care
staff and reception staff. They treat all the residents as family. Thank you to each and every member of The Forge Care Home. We as a family will continue to support The Forge Care Home.

From the moment Mum arrived the kindness and care provided was exceptional. All staff are compassionate and caring, Mum wasn't just a resident she was part of the Forge family. Staff had a lot of patience and time, not only with our mum, who at times could be very difficult, but also to Mum's family.
We are a large family and visited daily and every time we were welcomed (day/night), updated on Mum's day etc. and they talked to us, clearly explaining everything so we could understand. Before we chose The Forge, we visited a different care home and we knew The Forge was the best place for Mum! This gave us a lot of comfort from day one!

My mother in her last month of life, the staff in the care home were very caring, loving and respectful to my mother and family near the end. Nearly two years my mother was in The Forge Care Home in Cardiff and I cannot praise them all enough. They are a credit to the profession. The care and dedication

Due to my living location most of my communication with the home was through telephone conversations which, on a few occasions, what I was told was different when my family visited. When I was able to visit the care home in person, I could see the care my mother was receiving was of a very high standard.
It was lovely to see how the staff took time out to say goodbye to my mother prior to her passing. When my mother was at End of Life the staff went out of their way to comfort and care for the family who were there at that time, whilst at the same time caring for my mother.

The care that my dad has from the Forge team is 5 star. To be able to know that he receives the best care is such a relief to my family. From playing games, to playing tennis and organising special meals ie Valentine's Day for him and my mum is just so special. We as a family recommend The Forge Care

After visiting many Care Homes in Cardiff during 2012, I chose The Forge for my dad due to his Alzheimer's. He was only here 6 months but he was well looked after and happy. He even put on weight!
Then 5 years ago my Mum also developed a similar condition. Again I visited a number of homes around Cardiff
but The Forge impressed me the most and together we decided this was the best for her.
My Mum had difficulty settling in at first but nothing was too much trouble for the management and carers helping my Mum to settle.
The Nurses even allowed her to 'help' giving my mum a sense of purpose.
She particularly likes the food, saying it is like the real 'home cooking' she used to make. A number of times she has commented just how clean and tidy it is without that smell associated with similar institutions. When she was fitter she enjoyed joining in the fun and games provided by the entertainment staff.
And thanks to the reception staff; nothing is ever too much trouble!

We chose the Forge, of the five care homes we visited, because we felt it had heart. We were introduced to residents as well as shown the facilities which gave me a sense that staff have meaningful relationships with everyone. I was a bit concerned about the size of the dad's living room but found that
he moves around the whole building, depending on the many activities they do. He is also making the most of the garden. I've been kept up to date on GP visits and medical plans. All the staff I've met have been brilliant. Dad finds it hard to express himself but staff have taken time to get to know him and understand what makes him happy and, crucially, how to reassure him when he's uncomfortable e.g. during personal care. He is also eating properly for the first time in years. It's been a stressful few years and I can't thank the Forge enough now I know that dad is safe and content and my mum can start to build a life again.

My mother has been at The Forge Care Centre for nearly a year now. I have to say that all the staff there give the best care that they can provide and they really do care about my mother. It's also very much person-centred care. The staff keep me informed of anything I need to know or activities that's
going on, day trips etc and if I would like to attend. My mother has Dementia and things were getting too much for her at home, she was eating/drinking very little and sleeping a lot and just generally going down hill. Since she's been at The Forge Care Centre she has a great appetite, awake for longer periods of time and smiling, laughing and chatting. I feel my mother is very happy there and this makes me also very happy and comforted that she is well cared for.

In all honesty, when my dad needed to go from a care home to a nursing home, we didn't have much choice due to vacancies, and moving from a quiet area to a busy main road I did have my doubts, but after 3 months of him being in The Forge, I'm glad he is where is. The staff seem lovely and caring and
the activities they get the service users involved are fantastic. I'm happy where he is.

Our mum has been a resident here since September 2019.
Can't express enough how much care, love and devotion has been given to our beautiful mum.
All the care staff are wonderful and so patient with her.
The activities are excellent and varied, the activities staff are excellent at their job entertaining
the residents.
Management and nursing staff are very efficient and helpful to us if we need answers to ease our minds and are wonderful to Mum.

Our grandma has been a resident for coming up to 8 years now and she is so well looked after. We are unfortunately not in the area to be able to visit as much as we’d like but it’s a great comfort knowing she’s in such good hands and cared for so well. The social media page is a great tool, meaning
we can see up-to-date photos and things Grandma may have been up to, or just recently her birthday pictures. The times I’ve spoken to staff on the phone they’ve been extremely helpful and discussed Grandma with such kindness. We are very grateful for the staff who care for Grandma and everyone at The Forge Care Centre.

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2008

I joined the Summerhill Care Homes Group after graduating from university in 2008 and I have worked alongside and within all of our homes in a Business Support Role, having worked in both our Finance and Payroll departments for the group and I have often moved around each site to give extra support where needed.


Since opening in November 2010, I have been heavily involved in The Forge Care Centre and I have seen the home develop and evolve through the years previously having the position of Business Support Manager where I supported the Manager with running of the home and had direct responsibility for the personnel aspects of ancillary services.
I am now the home manager and I really enjoy my role.

Job Title: Clinical Manager

Joined: 2017

I joined the team at The Forge Care Centre in April 2017 following an extensive career in Primary Care working for the NHS. I brought to the role as RGN a wealth of knowledge and clinical skills, including teaching and mentoring, nurse leadership, physical assessment and specialist knowledge of long-term conditions and chronic disease management.
I was promoted to Clinical Lead in 2018 and then to Clinical Manager in January 2021 where the role involves the management of the nursing team and supporting the Home Manager, Laura, with the safe day to day running of the home.

Job Title: Clinical Compliance & Quality Lead

Joined: 2016

I joined The Forge in November 2016 as a Registered Nurse. I brought with me various skills and knowledge following my career in both surgical and respiratory nursing. Since joining The Forge I have undertaken various roles including Senior Nurse and Clinical Lead further developing my skills and knowledge and developing skills in team management and obtaining my Level 5.
I work alongside both Julia and Laura to support the staff team with the safe day to day of the home and oversee the clinical and care compliance aspect of the home. I am also our in-house trainer for Moving & Handling, ANTT, IDDSI, Catheterisation, Tracheostomy Care, PEG Care, NEWS, Venepuncture and Sepsis and the training and development of our Nursing Teams.
I also head up the Activity Team, and alongside them I help plan our fund raising, daily activities and organised events and trips.


My role is ever evolving and no two days are the same, which is what makes my role such an interesting one for me

Job Title: Business Support Manager

Joined: 2010

I came to The Forge in August 2010 before it opened, and haven’t left (I did try but my heart is at The Forge and always will be). I will still be here when I transfer from my desk to a bed! I’ve always worked in offices before working here, reconciling accounts for various companies, but this is the best job ever. Greeting families as they come to the home (getting paid to talk to people – perfect job).


I really love working at The Forge as it is like one large family, everyone gets on with each other – lovely atmosphere. We have amazing angels that look after our lovely people and do an absolutely amazing job.

Job Title: Business Support Manager

Joined: 2012

I have worked at The Forge Care Centre since 2012. It was my first job in care, after helping look after my grandmother at home.
I started here as a carer, providing hands on care to our lovely residents. I love to dance and bounce around - I have finally found a job that allows me to do this, and the residents join in!
Over the years I have had various different roles within the home, and I am now thriving in the Business Support Manager role.
I oversee the resident side of things, from making admissions as smooth as possible, managing personal allowances and supporting the home manager in any way I can.
