La Fontana is on outskirts of Martock, surrounded by beautiful Somerset countryside. The team has really focused on everything someone living with dementia could need to ensure each person continues to enjoy the best of life.

They've installed sophisticated technology to give you and your family added assurance and peace of mind. Intelligent bedroom sensors detect movement and allow for gradual illumination in the room which can also alert carers/nurses to someone needing assistance.

Enjoy stylish and comfortable living in one of five thoughtfully designed suites. Each suite benefits from spacious communal areas and large skylight windows, allowing natural light to pour in. Their beautiful reminiscence area promotes a trip down memory lane, complete with sun lounge designed with beach huts and a seaside feel housing a sun lamp that can promote a feeling of wellness and relaxation.

An innovative care planning system, ensures staff know everything they need to about how you choose to live. A fun, engaging daily activities programme is tailored to suit the hobbies and interests of the people living in the home.

La Fontana is a modern, purpose-built care home, single story, set in extensive grounds.
All rooms are very well furnished and equipped, eg. ensuite, TV, fridge and underfloor heating. Both care staff and housekeeping staff develop personal relationships with the residents which aids contentment and
general happiness. It is obvious that all staff take pride in carrying out their duties.

My mother suffers from Dementia, having looked after her for 8 years, we had to seek help with her. So La Fontana and its staff have been camp for her for a year. The staff are kind and patient, with all the residents. It's a very clean home, and with this difficult disease, I feel that they cope well
with the difficulties every day brings, as every day is a challenge.

I'm submitting a follow-up review as I've been very impressed by recent improvements at the home and the staff's actions to remedy my recent concerns. Allocating permanent staff to each unit has made a big difference and the staff have really impressed me with their initiative, implementation of activities
and sensory equipment and their pride in my mum's unit. The quick action taken to allay recent concerns and find a better way of working was also greatly appreciated. Communication has also improved which impacts everything else.
The staff treat my mum with respect and tailor care to suit her needs. They are always very friendly and welcoming to me and happy to listen to any concerns I have.

My father had been very well looked after during the past 6 years until passing away. The environment is lovely and kept very clean, as was his room.
I have always found all carers and staff to be professional, but more important, kind and caring. The outside areas are first class too.
Carers always
knew how my father was and could understand his needs, despite his lack of mobility and speech. They always had time to talk to me and were very friendly and welcoming. I am very grateful to everyone at La Fontana for looking after my dad. Thank you all so much.

Unfortunately, again staffing levels are unacceptable at times leaving the residents at risk. Also, some staff don't' seem to read up notes on residents. On a positive, most of the staff are caring.


As the staffing seems to be an issue I think the management should sort this out as far as I am concerned

this is very important.


The cleanliness of the building is good as is the food.

Residents do not have sufficient individual attention. There seems to be no routine that ensures essentials such as hearing aids, spectacles, sticks are in place from first thing in the morning. A comprehensive list of personal items needed by each resident should be in each room, so staff coming in
at different times know exactly what each resident needs. I have questioned missing hearing aids and spectacles and have been told the staff were unaware that the resident needed them. The communication books are a good idea, in theory, are simply not used.
Staff only engage with residents to see to a specific need. Organised activities are not offered daily. Televisions are on constantly, but there is nothing instantly available for residents to do. Simple activities and stimuli are needed - sorting trays, boxes of beads and strings, colouring books, large Lego, children’s scissors for cutting activities, dolls, dolls clothes, oversized packs of cards, magazines. None requires close supervision.

The resident appears to be getting a high level of care appropriate to her needs. As I live so far away, it is difficult to judge her everyday care when we visit as she cannot communicate in any meaningful way. We have always found her well looked after when we visit.

My mother is in good health for her age except for limited hearing and eyesight.
She stays here for a short respite while her carer goes on holiday; so is not a full-time resident. They gave her the same room so it is all familiar to her which is important. It is 3 mins from my home so regular visits
are easy.

My friend stayed for 2 weeks respite. He suffers from severe dementia and likes to walk most of the day. La Fontana gives him that luxury. It meant that he slept better and he was also looked after very well. He was clean, tidy and most of all, happy. He was respected by the staff and given delicious
food. What a lovely place. Really secure too which is very important.

My mother was admitted to La Fontana, Martock, in September 2019.
She is as content as she could be, given her dementia. The building is perfect for her, with plenty of space for walking about. She needs a lot of stimulation and there are always people to talk to.
In the months leading up to admission,
she felt very unsafe and insecure. Now she feels safe and well looked after.

My father was a resident at La Fontana for the last few weeks of his life. He had complicated and demanding needs and the staff met and surpassed the care necessary. From beginning to end my father was treated with respect and compassion and us, his family too. I would have no hesitation in recommending

I visited many care homes in a search to find a suitable home for my husband who is severely affected by dementia and needs care for physical problems as well.
As a family, we are well satisfied with our choice of La Fontana and have found the staff to be understanding of our emotions as well as providing
outstanding care for my husband he is comfortable, warm, well fed and looked after as one would look after one's own child.

My mother and stepfather started living at La Fontana in 2014. In 2015 my stepfather passed. Since then my mother has continued to live at La Fontana, happily. Her room is spacious with large french windows facing outwards, great for visiting family picnics.
I have found all the staff to be diligent,
whilst being kind and considerate to residents and welcoming their families. There has been the occasional problem, but when reported, the staff have gone to great lengths to get it sorted, for example, my mother’s room had an unpleasant smell, the room was deep cleaned, the next day when I visited, it was spotless.
I also know that my mother can be aggressive and strong-willed at times, so if she insists on going to bed after lunch, they try to persuade her to sit in the lounge with company but if she insists they are happy to take her. They cater to my mother’s wishes and needs respectfully.
I would like to thank the staff and tell you I can’t recommend La Fontana highly enough.

La Fontana is spacious, clean, light and very secure with an open layout. No stairs or narrow corridors as seen in many other care homes. Since my mother has been a resident, our family is happy in the knowledge that she is safe and well cared for when we leave her. Carers treat residents kindly and
with dignity. Staff and particularly management are approachable and deal with any concerns or issues that have arisen. On the downside, I feel stimulation and conversation between staff and residents is sadly lacking.

On 22nd October I visited my mother at 4 pm. She was sat on her own in the dining area and was unhappy. I took her to her room. She requested to go to the toilet so I asked a carer to take her which she did promptly. I chatted to Mum, made her coffee which improved her mood. I had noticed she was looking
thinner but when she asked to go to the toilet again, I took her and was surprised to find that the waist on her skirt was inches too big for her. She had been changed about an hour before I found that she still smelt unpleasantly of stale urine. She was not wearing her glasses nor her hearing aid which I couldn't find. The staff didn't know where they were either. Her friend who is unwell at present was sat in the lounge also without his glasses which he normally wears at all times.
I will buy Mum some new clothes, alter some of her other ones. I bought Mum some new pants but the washing has melted the stitching around the waist of them. I have bought them home to repair.
