Mother went into Newcross extremely anxious and hardly willing - now, after 2 weeks, considering rooms from respite to full time.


She is blossoming in the friendly atmosphere and cannot speak highly enough of all aspects of the home.

Our mother spent one week in respite, as her carer was away on holiday and we made it known on the interview day that she had dementia and was incontinent and we fully expected her hygiene care during her stay would be dealt with by the staff. But unfortunately, she was left to her own devices, which
is not good for someone with dementia. She was not showered regularly, nor was she assisted with incontinence pads, which is something she has to have help with every few hours. She had the same clothes on for more than 3 days.


On early inspection of this care home, it was modern, clean and staff very helpful and friendly, so we felt it was the right place to leave our mother for one week. But that was not the case and we will definitely not be using this service again.

Overall a fabulous experience in care and accommodation for the resident and visitors alike. Activities and entertainment etc were top quality and much appreciated by residents and family. Nothing seemed too much trouble for the staff - ask for hairdressing or chiropody and it happened (no messing).
The only criticism would be the cost - 1 weeks stay would be more than I get a month in state pension. Seeing my elderly mother-in-law improve health and wellbeing - is priceless.

My Mom has been in this care home for almost four years. When she first went in it was traumatic for the whole family. The staff at the home were kind and caring and helped all of us, Mom included, to come to terms with the change in circumstances. This care has never changed. Mom is still there receiving
help and care from the staff, without them things would be much more difficult for all of us.

Mum is very frail and is becoming more dependent. The home have moved her to nearer the staff station which I find reassuring.

My mom has been a resident here for about 7 months and throughout I only have positive things to say about Newcross.
There are so many wonderful staff here who continually provide the care and support for my mum, particularly since my dad passed away here on the 2nd of July.
This and so many other
things provide the reassurance to the family that my mum is in the best place possible.

Mum is well cared for. She is safe, warm and well fed. A new bed and mattress was provided for mum because she kept slipping out of bed. The staff are very patient and helpful, helping mum to move around and join in with activities. Mum has not been too well at times but the doctor is called straight
away which is reassuring.
A slight concern I do have is the differing reports given by staff, some say she is doing well whilst others report her not being so good. However, I'm sure they do try to "hand-over" successfully.

The review went well. Do have concerns about my mother's weight and varicose veins which are large due to constant walking. Have tried getting her to sit down for long periods whilst there but all she wants to do is walk. Staff are very good with her but this is all part of dementia.

Very open, friendly and caring atmosphere. Always felt welcome whenever we visited. Staff were always very attentive towards my aunt as were friends as well as carers. They made the last few months of her life comfortable and happy for which we will be forever grateful.

My mother has been resident in Newcross Care Home for just over two years and during that time we have had no reason to complain about her care. The staff are very good and friendly and the facility excellent. During her time she has been taken out on trips to theatre, shops etc. There is also regular
entertainment within the home.

Jenna

Jenna Hughes

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2017

Hello, my name is Jenna, and I am the home manager here at Newcross Care Home.


I joined Newcross in 2017 and have over 10 years of experience in the healthcare sector. Prior to becoming home manager here, I have had several previous roles, including senior care assistant, deputy manager at an Army nursery and a moving and handling trainer for the NHS. I am always looking into ways to develop my skills in the sector and have successfully done this by proudly accomplishing the NVQ levels 2, 3 and 5.


I would best describe myself as someone who is warm, welcoming and someone who is also on the go. In my downtime, I enjoy cheering my children on from the sidelines at their football matches.


Within my career, I have been lucky enough to meet many residents with all amazing stories and backgrounds. Seeing my residents happy and enjoying life each day gives me the motivation to perform at the highest level. One memorable moment that I will cherish forever was when one of my residents had difficulties walking. Using my experience, I referred them to occupational therapy, where he began to walk with assistance and without aids within two months. This is just one example of where I have been able to use my skills to better the lives of our residents.


Avery Healthcare, owners of Newcross, best stands out for their luxurious appearance and expectations of what quality care should be received by our residents. All staff receive continuous support and training. And our home is no different. Our home is unique as it is a true home from home. It is filled with an endless amount of fun, care and love. Residents, relatives and staff all form one happy community.

Wendy ensures all service user financial accounts are well managed, and also deals with personnel and payroll.

Judith started a career in Catering after obtaining her City and Guilds qualification at Birmingham College of Food and Domestic Art.


Judith has a vast knowledge of catering in various environments. Since her commencement with Avery, she has been more passionate about making a difference to our residents by providing them with the best quality and nutritional dishes.


Judith has since achieved the National Care Award of Care Home Chef of the Year in 2015.

Jamie has a good knowledge of buildings and maintenance as he has been involved in the building trade for over 25 years. As a builder/bricklayer, he has achieved a level 2 and 3 Diploma in Construction.

Olivia Harris

Job Title: Team Leader

Joined: 2017

Olivia has been working in care since the age of 17. During her time, she has completed an NVQ level 2 and 3 Qualification in Health and Social care and has recently completed her level 4 in Leadership and Management.


Her passion for her role is seeing the residents happy, fulfilling their needs and wishes and promoting a good quality of life.
