Nestled in the 'Rose of the Shires', Northamptonshire, Elm Bank Care Home is a spacious and inviting residence in Kettering with great access to local amenities. Members of staff get to know everyone individually so they can provide a high quality lifestyle and activities that each resident will enjoy. The home welcomes respite and long term residents.

Bedrooms are divided between a community for people with lower care needs, a separate supported living house and a dementia care community. Elm Bank also has a premium respite suite for short-stay guests. Each community has its own living and dining rooms, with private dining options for visiting families and special occasions. Furnishings and décor throughout the home are of a high standard and offer a homely and comfortable feel.

There is a secure private garden in the centre of the grounds, a patio area to the rear of the home and a Victorian summer house - all perfect for outdoor socialising.

Meals are prepared by trained chefs who offer a varied daily menu and tailor meals to individual preferences. Residents may eat in the restaurant-style dining room or in their own rooms if preferred. All dietary requirements are catered for.

A dedicated Activities Coordinator plans a busy programme of daily events for residents to take part in if they wish. Residents also help to plan activities, outings and entertainment that they will enjoy, to make sure there is something for everyone.

The staff are very kind and help us when we need it. Unfortunately, when members of staff are on holiday or off sick we don't do quite so well. I don't think we can grumble, I think Elmbank House is possibly the best in Kettering.

Dad joined mum at Elmbank for some respite care. He was very well looked after and the staff were lovely even though he was a 'tricky' and 'reluctant' resident. Staff were great at a very difficult time.

My mother has been a resident in Elm Bank for almost two years and during that time, her care has been very up and down, sometimes amazing! It all depends on the carer who is responsible at the time. Staff shortages seem to be the main problem. This unfortunately means an inconsistency in care on a
day to day basis. I also feel this puts a massive strain on the staff which ultimately affects the residents.


On her floor, there is a senior who works one shift pattern who is excellent (although she often gets called away to cover meds etc in other places) but there is no permanent carer on the opposite shift. This means every day the carers can be different - often they have no knowledge of my mum's needs etc. My mum is happy and settled, and I wouldn't want to move her anywhere else but it would be good to know staffing issues are being addressed.

Carers can be very good on a one to one basis but general management is poor, ie laundry is very badly managed and never put away properly, room is often less than clean but common areas are spotless. Activities are good and important. Out of office hours security and telephone answering sometimes poor.

It is great to hear feedback on other aspects of our service. Laundry is a key area of the home that we are currently working on improving to enable it to run smoothly with the high volume it receives. Security has also recently been reviewed, as a result, the reception area is now locked after office hours.
With regards to housekeeping, our team follow cleaning schedules which are reviewed frequently and we hold monthly meetings with relatives and residents to discuss any concerns. Further to this we operate an open door policy and would be pleased to chat to you at any time.

Safety and security when fire alarm went off nobody came to check we were alright?
On one occasion my Granddaughter and Great-Grandson were able to get as far as my room without seeing a member of staff!

Thank you for your valued feedback. We carry out tests on our fire alarms weekly with teams expected to follow certain procedures, including investigating the cause of the alarm. The testing of our fire alarm and procedures is part of checks that keep our residents safe and sound during an emergency. I have complained to various staff. Regarding the shopping trolley. It used to come every week.But as become more infrequent. The last time it came was about 5 weeks ago. Some residents have no way of getting things they require any outer way. So something should be done.

I have had a lovely time at Elm Bank. Everyone is very friendly. The staff and the carers are excellent. My only concern is how some days, they are short of carers, and when reading the welcome pack, you can order whatever you want from the kitchen. I find this area needs to be reviewed because
at times I've asked for something and they don't have it or do it. Apart from that, my stay here has been very pleasant.

My mother went to Elm Bank in 2014 after a fall for an initial 4-6 weeks stay but liked it so much she decided to stay immediately. The staff are helpful and attentive and there are many activities as well as pleasant areas to sit and enjoy the outlook onto beautifully kept gardens. Visitors are always
made welcome and the reception staff are unfailingly pleasant.

Dad first came to Elm Bank House for respite after a lengthy and traumatic hospital stay. The staff have been wonderful with him, the facilities are excellent (rooms quality of a really good hotel) and food is freshly prepared, delicious and plentiful. Because of these things (but mainly the wonderful
carers) he has made an excellent recovery, and is happier now than I have seen him for a long time - to the extent that he has now decided that he would like to become a resident (contracts being signed as I speak!) Thanks to all at Elm Bank, I now have my beloved Dad back and am looking forward to spending lots of quality time with him. Especially summertime out on the lovely patio!

Very comfortable dealing with all the senior people from initial home assessment through to admission and follow-up meeting. I have had a limited number of visits so far, due to the distance from the home to where I live, plus my holiday. However, I have been very impressed with the overall feel of
the home, how the staff have been responding to other people's needs/requests in addition to my mother, plus the friendliness of the carers.

I have been a registered nurse for 18 years. I trained at St Bartholomew School of Nursing, City University London. I worked in a large London hospital for many years before relocating to Northamptonshire with my husband several years ago to start a family.


My experience is varied having worked in a variety of settings including local hospitals, rehabilitation units, and community and nursing homes. I have 6 years of management experience and I thoroughly enjoy equipping staff with knowledge and skills to help them to give their best to our residents and enjoy their work.


I love working for Barchester and feel privileged to be leading a great team and ensuring our residents are provided with quality service that meets each individual needs. I ensure we offer a choice of delicious meals, three times a day, to meet residents' food preferences and dietary needs. I love cooking and I take the time to speak to residents about what food they enjoyed or weren't so keen on. We include special requests and residents' favourites in our menus, and we provide cakes and biscuits to go with morning and afternoon refreshments.

I enjoy the company of residents and I take pride in making sure they are comfortable and have everything they need. I enjoy listening to their life stories and reminiscing over photos. Hello. I am Jill and I have lived at Elm Bank for many years so I know the staff really well. I enjoy attending all the activities and I always want to try the new things offered here. By providing entertainment that is not only stimulating but person-centred. Our weekly calendar offers rich experiences with music from live entertainers, visits to various locations outside the home of interest, as well as arts and crafts tailored to individual abilities. We are a pet-friendly home and fully support the benefits animal therapy can bring to the lives of our residents and welcome animals of all kinds to the home regularly.

Hello. I am Sophie and I support our Head Chef to produce a varied menu every day, and I manage the kitchen team when the Head Chef is on leave. It is very important to me that every resident enjoys their food, so I get to know exactly how and when they like their food. We also take into account any dietary and swallowing needs to make sure people get all the nutrition they need. We make lots of treats too for birthdays and events.

My role, and that of the team is to enrich the lives of our residents by providing stimulating and person-centred activities, entertainers and outings. I believe music is a great way to express one's feelings and personality and look forward to listening to the soundtrack of our residents’ lives.

Hello, my name is Mark and I work within the Activities Team here at Elm Bank Care Home.


It's a privilege for me to provide regular activities, ones our wonderful residents really enjoy such as Family Fortunes, Bingo and carpet bowls.


Everyone looks forward to their weekly scheduled gathering for a little competitive gaming with traditional games of prize Bingo, carpet bowls and dominoes being their favourites across the communities.

I re-joined the team in 2023 after a short break, I have over 8 years’ experience working within this beautiful home and it's good to be back! I adore our residents and have the daily privilege of being able to maintain their living space 'just the way they like it'. In my spare time, I enjoy watching all sports and going on long country walks.
