A well-run residential care home with caring, friendly staff, comfortable rooms, light and warm. Reasonable, homely food. Lots of activities, lovely grounds to sit out in, set in a corner of a park. Residents seem well catered for. No, it is not home, it is safer with the staff there 24/7.

We moved my aunt into Acer House Care Home in February, having researched alternatives. Did we get the decision right? Without a doubt. My aunt is happy and enjoys the activities which are provided as well as the food - she has put on weight since she moved there.
We now have no concerns on her welfare
as we feel she is in safe hands - the staff are brilliant. Some will say it is not cheap - I agree but you get what you pay for - a first-class care home where the residents matter!

September has been a testing month for my Mum. However the staff have understood her situation and have been of enormous help to me during this time.
Any problems have always been acted upon very quickly and I do appreciate how difficult it must be for the staff, with all the different challenges
they must have with so many different individuals.
All the staff are very positive and take an interest in the residents.

Events that led to the most precious woman in my life being removed from her home was incredibly difficult.


The transition into Care was very hard but Acer House Care Home - Avery Healthcare really does make it feel like home from home.


I visit a lot. The team acknowledge relationships built with

residents and adapts to their style.


I can walk into the Dining Room and make tea and not flinch - that’s the environment that’s promoted and encouraged.


Senior Leadership in is absolutely what this sector needs. People who manage an operation but balance that with people.


Even their receptionists go above and beyond - Julie, what an asset!


At times I leave and have a cry as I find it hard - staff find me and give me a hug.


That’s what care is about.

Acer House Care Home - Avery Healthcare staff were polite, friendly and caring. The rooms are light and spacious, and the dining and lounge areas were clean and well kept. My mother lost some things a while ago, they have yet to be found and returned despite 2 calls about them. However, they kept her
engaged and happy during the stay. They are very expensive and expect two weeks' rent plus costs to refurbish the room in the event of death. Not as good in terms of value for money or facilities compared to the permanent home we have moved Mum to. We are grateful they could take her at very short notice though.

The people are helpful. The food is always delicious. The chef knows how to cook porridge. The latte from the residents/visitors machine, is excellent.

We have been very happy with Mum's care since entering the home in 2022. The staff do their best to provide a secure and happy environment for what is an awful illness. Acer House is a beautiful home from home for early dementia care patients.
However I feel like, and I am sure most do but don't say,
that the cost of care in the UK is now becoming ridiculous, at nearly 6000 a month with an increase in September 23 of another 500 I feel is robbery. A room, food to keep a mouse alive as dementia patients eventually stop eating, little usage of electric. Dementia patients don't need or want the level of care provided for other residents who simply live in the care home rather than in their own home. I feel that future care will remain in the home for those that own their own home, one to one carers, earning £2500 a month will be cheaper and ensure greater care on a one to one basis when required. £67,200 Sept 23 £72000 for 1 year in a care home. Value for money... No.

We sympathise with families facing rising fees for the cost of quality care. However, care in a residential home offers value for money when considering full board and 24/7 care at a level that must meet significant regulatory requirements specified by Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Fee increases over the last few years can be attributed to factors such as Government-implemented wage increases of between 6% and 10% per annum for the previous four years.
Although Governments over the last 15 years have attempted to create a means of fairly funding care for older people, with only 7% of the over 85 years elderly population requiring some form of residential care, it has never been a Government priority, and the burden falls on a small number of families to support the increasing fees.

The level of care and support for my parents has been excellent from the staff at Acer House Care Home. Nothing is too much trouble and the Coronation cream tea this afternoon was excellent and well organised, the scones were gorgeous, This is a well-run residential home providing excellent care and
accommodation and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

Mum has been at Acer House Care Home for over twelve months now and she settled in really well! She took a while to join in with activities even though she always has been a very sociable person. Covid and isolation at home escalated her progression of dementia! I always promised her that she would
never go in a home so I was dealing with my own guilt too! The staff at Acer have been so supportive, nothing is ever too much trouble. They treat my mum like extended family, have a laugh, and are interested to listen to mum's tales of things gone past, they are all truly amazing. Any misgivings that my family and I may have had were squashed early on. We find that we can relax in the knowledge that she is safe and so well cared for. So well done and thank you everyone at Acer house!

I visit a friend of 15+ years every week and right from the moment you step through the sliding doors, everyone is so friendly. The receptionist greets you with a smile and a cheery hello. The care staff are, on the whole, happy to see you and always make you feel welcome. Right down to the cleaning
staff and the laundry lady - they all respect your privacy with the person you are visiting.

I cannot fault the way my mum was welcomed into Acer House. The room is beautiful and so cosy. I find all the staff are so friendly to me and to Mum at all times. Mum is treated with great dignity and humour and always looks so clean and well-dressed. I couldn't be happier.

I have 20 years of experience within the healthcare sector and have achieved qualifications including Levels 2, 3, and 5 Health and Social Care Diplomas, PTTLS Level 3, and Level 3 Health and Safety. Working in residential and nursing settings, I have been lucky enough to have a variety of roles including, a Carer/Senior Carer, Home trainer, Housekeeping, Chef, Activities Co-ordinator, and Deputy Manager, gaining plenty of experience and valuable skills.


Within this time, I have shared many treasurable moments with the residents I have had the pleasure to meet along the way. One moment that I will cherish throughout my career was when I had the privilege to be taught how to knit by a very skilful resident living with dementia. It is such a great talent to withhold, and you will now often find me trying to join in with our knit-and-natter club.


I would best describe myself as someone who is very passionate, determined, and strong-minded. In my spare time, I spend most weekends cheering my son on from the sidelines at his football matches and love relaxing in the garden with my family.

Jackie Stride

Jackie joined the team as a senior carer in 2019 having already worked at Acer House for some time in the culinary department. Jackie previously supported the Ashcombe Suite community and is a strong leader ensuring the best possible outcomes for the residents living within the community. More recently Jackie has transferred to our housekeeping department to allow her more flexibility to continue with her spare time hobbies and interests.


In her spare time, Jackie goes for mini breaks with her husband to explore the UK countryside or spend time with her wonderful grandchildren.

Julie is a senior care assistant here at Acer House and has worked for Avery Healthcare since the home opened in 2011. Her vast experience of working in the health and social care sector has helped her in her role within the home and enables her to provide excellent person-centred care and support to each and every individual living within the home. Julie enjoys spending time in the garden and visiting friends and family in her spare time

Jolie has been with the team for 12 months having previously worked as a nursery nurse. With her softly spoken voice and attention to detail she is the perfect addition to our memory care team and strives to provide person centred care to each and every resident living in our community. In her spare time Jolie loves spending time with her family enjoying day trips and having adventures

Jenny has worked in the care industry for many years and has a vast experience of working in the care industry. Jenny joined the team here at Acer House back in 2018. In her spare time Jenny enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren and walking her young Labrador dog.

Terry joined the team her at Acer House back in 2016 as a care assistant. Terry predominantly works on our memory care suite and says no two days are the same which adds to the fun and variety. Terry enjoys sports, a day at the races and spending time with friends and family.

Bruno re-joined our team in July 2023 following some time out trying other sectors. Bruno has worked in a variety of care home environments in a variety of roles but is most at home working as a care assistant in our memory care suite where he strives to achieve person-centred support at all times. Bruno always has a smile to brighten up the day.


Bruno enjoys spending time with his young son and socialising with friends in his spare time.

Lisa joined the team in January 2024 having worked for the same care organisation for over 15 years. Lisa is a hard-working and dedicated member of the care team who puts resident's needs and wishes at the centre of everything she does. Lisa enjoys her role and responsibilities here and hopes to train as a senior carer and improve her skill set in our environment. Lisa enjoys spending time with her daughter, husband and pet dog in her spare time.

Marisa's wealth of knowledge in the care sector has enabled her to transfer her skills to her role here at Acer House. Ola joined our Reception team in 2016 having previously worked for high-end jewellers, with her she brought extensive experience in customer service.


Ola will always welcome you with an enthusiastic big smile and knows the home, staff and community living within the home very well.


In her free time Ola will cook new Italian dishes, have a long walk or read a good book.

Lindy joined our Reception Team in 2020 having worked in the care industry for a number of years. She is passionate about her role and has also become known as ‘FLO’ (Family Liaison Officer) Lindy has a great rapport with both residents and their families and is always willing to offer assistance in any way she can. Lindy is often heard laughing and chatting with our community and is a kind, compassionate member of the team with a fantastic knowledge of the home, facilities and services provided within the home.

Anna enjoys trying new recipes and expanding her variety of dishes, never afraid to try something new. Sandra enjoys puzzles and is often found sat with residents engaging in activities or being supported with her daily tasks by helpers living within the home.
