Newstone House is located in the ancient market town of Sturminster Newton and comprises of six house groups over three floors.

Residents enjoy companionship and can join in with singing, music, exercise and arts and crafts sessions. There is the opportunity for gentle gardening activities in the summer sunshine, and there is a busy pen pal scheme.
The home is registered for nursing care and staffed by dedicated nurses and health care professionals with extensive experience in caring for age-related conditions and fully trained in infection control.

In each house group, there are en-suite bedrooms, a bathroom with specialised bathing facilities, a comfortably furnished sitting area where residents can relax and chat with family and friends, a kitchenette and dining area, and each house group has a dedicated care staff team.

On the ground floor, there is a coffee bar, lounge and dining room with patio doors leading out to the garden. The ground floor also accommodates the hairdressing salon, sun therapy room and a cinema.

The first floor has been designed to support residents with dementia. Specialist features have been integrated to assist residents with memory loss to orientate themselves, whilst enabling them to retain their independence in a secure and welcoming environment. Many bedrooms overlook the gardens or the surrounding countryside. There is also a potting shed with a secure roof terrace and a quiet lounge on this floor.

My Mum was cared for at Newstone for 14 months.
She was in late stages of Alzheimer's, with barely any mobility so she required a lot of nursing care and Newstone staff were simply incredible. Mum was so well cared for , the personal care and social care were excellent , food was of a high standard
and nothing was too much trouble
I visited several times most weeks so feel I had a fair insight into the running of the Home.
I would be very confident to recommend Newstone to any family trying to select a Care Home for their elderly relative.

I was very pleased to be able to spend four weeks in Newstone House recovering from a total hip replacement. The staff were very friendly, helpful and caring. The food was delicious and the residents were very friendly. I enjoyed the daily programme of events and the outings looked interesting but I
wasn't able to partake in them. I had some friends round for afternoon tea and we were catered for admirably.

Excellent care and good attention to needs. Sometimes in the busy mornings and evenings staff are very busy and need more help, but they are all very kind and look after me well.
There is a wide variety of enjoyable activities to choose from every day. I enjoy the singing, quizzes, artwork, and a
mix of nice characters to talk to. There are regular outings, in the minibus, which makes a nice change.

I came to Newstone House originally for respite to recover from a fall. I was immediately made to feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble for anyone. My family and I soon realised that I would need the help so I decided to stay. This is a decision I have never regretted.
The help is always there,
given with a smile. There are plenty of activities planned for us if we wish to take part. They keep us on our toes, both mentally and physically.
We are very well fed with a good choice of options.
My visitors, both family and friends, always comment how welcoming it is and how they are always met with a greeting and a smile.

My dad is a resident and everything is excellent. He is very well looked after and receives better care than if he was in hospital. The staff are lovely and very friendly and engaging, and the activities Dad takes part in are great and very suited to abilities and age group.

It was the first time I had visited my friend since he was admitted to the Care Home needing 24-hour care after becoming very ill with a long-term illness. I was amazed at the change. He looked so much better, less agitated and pain-free in a beautiful room that was sunny and peaceful. Staff I had contact

My father and mother came into care unexpectedly, after reaching crisis at home, this was an extremely difficult and emotional time, everyone at Newstone House, from reception to the catering team, were supportive, caring and understanding. I cannot speak highly enough of the customer service advisor,
she initially showed us around the home, putting our minds at rest, she was there when Dad came in the following week and was absolutely amazing, making a very difficult time that bit easier. The home manager and all the team have exceeded our expectations and have put to rest all the fears and reservations we all had about care homes. Thank you to all concerned.

We have no complaints about this care home. During my mother's stay there were plenty of assistants around. The residents were always friendly and helpful. My mother resided in the section of the home that was dedicated to people suffering from dementia and always seemed to be happy when we visited.
Medical care was prompt when required.

My father died in September at the age of 97, having been in Newstone House for five years and three months. During this time I visited him at least once, usually twice, a week and never once saw him treated with anything other than respect, humour and compassion. During his last year, as his dementia
increased, he wasn't always the easiest resident when it came to accepting 'personal care', but the carers and nurses were endlessly patient with him and always tried to find new ways round his resistance to being showered and shaved. Everyone who came into his room addressed him by name and with real concern and cheerfulness, whether it was the nurse, the carers, the person bringing the tea and cake (for me as well as dad), the 'laundry fairy' delivering clean shirts, the chiropodist.... Both during dad's time on the ground floor and when he was moved up to the first floor, I felt totally secure, knowing that he was in the best hands. Thanks to you all for all your support.

We moved Dad into Newstone House in February this year. He had been fiercely independent, refusing to go into 'one of those places', and we were concerned if it was the right thing. It was becoming impossible for us to care for Dad at home. From the beginning, the staff at Newstone House have been exceptional.
From my first introduction, guided by one staff member who introduced me to the accommodation and the culture of Newstone House, to my continued visits where we have played 'carpet skittles', quizzes and word games, I can honestly say this was the best decision we made. The time we spend with him now is truly quality time. Dad gets out on short trips to local scenic locations and cafes. It feels like being part of a big family. I think it goes beyond care. The love and attention I see being given to everyone at Newstone House is personal; it comes from every individual who works there and it clearly goes well beyond being just a job for all the staff, whatever their role. They're the best.

The level of care extended to my Father was exceptional. All the staff, medical, care, hospitality, activities, cleaning and admin all showed my Dad and indeed our whole family a great deal of affection and respect. Newstone House is a wonderful place for anyone to live, it does not feel like a care
home, it feels like 'home'. You gave my Father great dignity in his last days, right to the end. We were particularly touched by the staff's 'guard of honour' when Dad was collected by the undertaker. Thank you.

I moved my mum to Newstone House in January 2023; after time in hospital and a temporary dementia facility. From the viewing appointment, through the submission phase, through to Mum's arrival took just 3 short weeks. The staff supported and led and comforted throughout. Mum had always fought for her
independence and was against going into 'such a place'. I am so pleased to say that since her arrival at Newstone House, I have my mum back! Clean, happy, funny, singing, dancing, sociable mum. All team members make you feel part of the home; there is nothing you can't discuss with them or with you. The home is spotless, the washing is laundered and back in the rooms overnight, the companions work tirelessly to keep the residents entertained and joining in. Activities mum would never have done before she now joins in and enjoys. The food is exceptional; fresh and tasty and locally sourced. The reception team are a delight welcoming you on arrival and departure. Nursing care is exceptional.

My daughter has Early Onset Alzheimers and was transferred to Newstone House in mid-December. I cannot speak highly enough of the care and kindness she is receiving from the incredibly patient and attentive staff who have made my extended family and me most welcome when we visit. I know my daughter
is receiving the best care and compassionate attention: I can now relax and enjoy seeing her appreciation of her situation, although she is unable to express it herself. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

We were very impressed when we first looked around Newstone House. My mum had lived with us for five years but had increasing nursing needs and we felt it was the right time for her to have high-quality care for her final months. My mum moved into the home in early June 2022 and settled well. She had
always been a very fussy eater - but she loved the food and it was always hot and appetising. We did have some issues with internal communication over the three months she lived at the home but the manager and all staff were always receptive and responsive to any concerns and addressed any issues promptly. Some issues may have been due to staff Covid resulting in a high number of agency staff that didn't know her needs. However, I will always be so grateful to the wonderful staff who cared for her in her final few days, in particular the day she passed away. She was treated so sensitively by such kind and caring staff (as were we). It was definitely the right place for her.

My husband has very complex nursing requirements and Colten Care approached this professionally from the outset before agreeing to take him for respite care. The Home Manager visited us at home to be sure that Newstone House could accommodate his needs and then discussed it with the Clinical Lead. They
undertook some extra training on PEG feeding for staff in readiness. When my husband went into the home for respite care the room was bright and clean. The nursing team gave me confidence that all the medication and nursing requirements would be met and there was a good balance between giving me a break from my caring role (i.e. not contacting me regularly) and contacting me when they really needed to. All the staff were friendly and I got the impression they were kind and patient with the residents. It is the best care home my husband was been in for respite.
