With a devoted manager who has been at Orchard House for over 20 years, and many of the team having been there for 10 plus years, the home has a warm, family feel the moment you walk through the door.   

Providing residential and dementia care, the team also offer respite care breaks, which can be booked in advance, ideal for carers who need to plan a short break themselves, knowing their loved one is in safe hands.

The team are passionate about enriching the lives of their residents, who have a very active role to play in how their home is run. The home’s resident ambassador is involved in recruiting new staff, chairs residents' meetings and provides residents' feedback to the team.

The home is thriving, with so many activities to enjoy, from baking and pamper sessions, to music afternoons - the home even has its own stick drumming group! There are also crafts, games and gentle exercise sessions, and weekly visits from a mobile hairdresser, for appointments in the home’s salon.

This summer the residents have been enjoying growing their own vegetables, which the chef has used in the kitchens, where nutritious, home-cooked meals are prepared every day. From roast dinners to lighter bites like home-made soups and freshly baked cakes for afternoon tea. The home’s chef also bakes stunning cakes for residents' birthdays and special celebrations, as well as being a dab hand at pastries.

The residents also enjoy regular visits from local school children, a youth band and cockapoo Bella, who visits daily.

And there are trips out into the local community, from the nearby cinema to village coffee mornings, where residents can stay connected. And of course, family and friends are welcome at any time.

The home also has a private family and friends Facebook group, so loved ones can see what the residents have been enjoying doing, even if they can’t be there in person each day.

All the staff at Orchard House are very friendly and caring towards my father, who has been at the care home since the end of November 2022.
He has been made very welcome and cared for extremely well.
The carers and staff have also been very friendly towards myself and my family and are happy to answer
any questions we may have.

I have been a resident since May 2022 and have received an extremely high standard of care in every aspect. The food is very good, especially cakes and puddings. Nothing is too much trouble for the hard-working staff who are always pleasant and polite. The standard of cleanliness is very high and maintenance
problems are dealt with promptly. I am very happy here and feel valued.

Very friendly staff and very clean and easy to park and the rooms are nice and clean. The staff are always there if you need them when they're on duty and I’m always informed if there a problem. I can always phone up about my friend to find how they are.

During the difficult period of adjustment to covid-19 I had the comfort of knowing my father was safe and well looked after by a very caring team. Since things have become more normal he has been encouraged to take up walking around to the park and going down to the garden. He has received a great
deal of support in this and it has made a huge difference to his mental health.
It has been clear that all members of staff really make the effort to make life comfortable and homely by paying attention to the small things that make such a difference to the residents. My father is very happy happy and frequently acknowledges how fortunate he is to have such a lovely team looking after him.
I have always felt welcome and found everyone open and helpful. It has been such a relief to know he is happy and safe. All staff do their best to make sure feels it is his home and how he would like it to be.

I have no major complaints about the level of care my father-in-law received, however, my wife was extremely upset by the attitude of the organisation when he sadly passed away.
When my wife advised the home of Dad's passing, there were the usual “sorry to hear that” comments, swiftly followed up by
you will need to clear his belongings in three days.
I realise there are procedures regarding contracts to follow and so be it.
What really upset my wife was the lack of follow up, no phone call from the manager or anyone else expressing condolences and not even a sympathy card.
But there we are at the end of the day it’s just another business.

Although I am satisfied with the care given to my husband, the conditions are cramped and he is unable to sit by the window in his bedroom.

The staff at Orchard House went above and beyond to make sure my Mum was well cared for. When Mum had to go to hospital because of a fall, a member of staff went with her so she wasn’t on her own. Always very friendly and compassionate, would recommend this home to anyone.

My mother has been in Orchard House since the end of September this year. It has not been possible to see her room because of Covid19, so I cannot comment on the state of things inside. But I can say that the staff have all been lovely and welcoming and have left me well informed about how my mother
is. They seem very patient and kind and have given her back her dignity after a long stay in hospital.

My mother has been in the care home for several years and unfortunately, has had to move into the dementia floor and her understanding has obviously greatly diminished. The carers have always been good with her and she is generally clean and well cared for. Activities while able to join in were good
and she appeared quite happy. For dementia patients, I think music (that is of their age) is preferable to TV. Staff have been excellent during covid.

Mum has been treated with immense patience, compassion and kindness throughout her residency by all members of staff. Mum has been treated very much as an individual. It is apparent the staff have got to know her and accept her as the person she is at this stage of her life. As a relative, I have found
the staff to be very friendly and approachable at all times. They have shown me great kindness at times of stress.

The care staff are the asset to the home. Nothing is too much trouble for the resident or family. Staff also have been amazing during the Coronavirus outbreak keeping in touch and answering lots of extra phone calls and especially keeping everyone safe from COVID-19.
Resident's rooms could do with
updating the wardrobe and washing facilities.

I have found Orchard House provides a friendly, happy and safe environment for my aunt to live in. Her room, although quite small, is nevertheless comfortable. The home is clean, and the staff appear to really care about the residents in their charge.

Staff are caring and respectful of mother's privacy. Many activities are available for the residents and these have continued during this difficult time - Coronavirus Lockdown. We are able to speak with my mother at any time and we have regular emails, updating everything that is happening in the home.

Joined: 2005

I joined Orchard House in 2005 to gain experience after completing my Psychology BSc (Hons) degree. However, I quickly fell in love with the home, its residents, and our incredible team. What was meant to be temporary turned into a fulfilling career.
Over the years, I’ve grown through various roles, deepening my passion for person-centred care. In 2011, I became Home Manager leading our dedicated team with
compassion and commitment.
At Orchard House, we’re more than just a care home. We provide exceptional care
while enriching residents’ lives, creating a warm, homely environment with a team
that feels like family.
Many of our staff have been with us for years, fostering a sense of stability and belonging for both residents and colleagues.
I am passionate about ensuring that Orchard House remains a place where we
support residents to feel valued, safe and truly at home.
