It is with great regret that I feel the need to write this review. I am extremely disappointed in how De Brook Lodge cares for people with advanced dementia.
They advertise that they are caring for older people and also dementia care.
However, when this becomes too challenging they decide that they
can no longer meet a person's needs.
This means that when somebody is very vulnerable, they are forced to leave De Brook.
When we chose De Brook as a care home for our family member, we thought that they would be safe and cared for until they sadly would pass away.
This is not the case and three years on, we are in a position that we need to find an alternate provision. This is not helpful or appropriate to the person with dementia. We feel that this will have a devastating impact and our family member will become even more confused and upset. This may result in the death of our family member.

Just before Christmas my mother had a fall and over Christmas had a bug, so has been quite poorly. The staff have been excellent, firstly chasing discharge information from the hospital (who are normally excellent) and then providing the correct care and attention she needed.
Her recovery has been
slow (as you would expect at that age) but the staff give her the right amount of constant care and attention including dietary review.
She has recently had another stumble but with staff on hand no serious injury was sustained and we were informed immediately.
We are sad to see the manager is leaving and hopefully the transition will be seamless.
My brother, sister and I are full of praise for this establishment and all concur that this is the best 'home' for our mother.

This is a failing care home due to the poor local management and the ineffective/non-existent Regional and Senior management. The holding company culture is one of profit over care - despite the 'mission statements' on their website.The evidence of this is to be found at this care home, where 'cost'
in form of staff is minimised in order to protect the 'bottom line'.
The caring staff generally do their best for residents but
a) they are understaffed (carer/resident ratios are at times a severe safety issue)
b) appropriate training is limited
c) shift patterns and rotas are not in the resident's interests
d) high levels of 'churn' (good staff move on)
e) Resulting in over-reliance on 'Agency staff' - particularly at weekends (when management fails to be present)
f) motivation and morale is poor and reflected in the demeanour of most staff


Over the 10 months my mother was a resident, none of the concerns the family raised with local and regional management - were dealt with.

Lovely home. The manager has just left but we have been told that a new manager will be starting in February. The receptionist is always there to greet you with a happy face and the care manager who is standing in until the new manager starts has always been very helpful and approachable. The care staff
are always very helpful and always on hand to help if I need them. The food always smells so nice, although I have never tried it, my friend says they enjoy it. It could do with a few bits here and there to make it look more like a home but other than that I have no issues and would recommend this to anyone who asks

My mum moved into De Brook Lodge in December 2016. From day 1, the staff and management have been fantastic with our mum. They treat her with dignity and respect and when there have been times when she has had to go to hospital, they deal with everything until we can get there. My mum has put on a little
weight (for the better) due to the fabulous food the residents get and her social life is definitely better than mine with lots of activities taking place on a regular basis. We as a family are very happy.

De Brook Lodge provides a modern, well-maintained environment in which the residents live. The rooms are spacious, clean, as is the home generally. The carers carry out a multitude of tasks with sensitivity despite what is to an outsider, challenging circumstances that the residents sometimes present.


Due

to the majority of the residents having dementia type symptoms, the residents who do fortunately have their mental facilities can find it a lonely experience - in that there are few people on each of the 3 floors with whom a conversation can be had.
Some care homes group such residents together as opposed to them being spread over 3 floors in order to promote social interaction. This doesn't seem to be the case in De Brook.

I know my mum is well treated and very well looked after.


As a family, we know we have made the right choice. She is very content and loves all the activities and outings, which is very important to us.

My mother suffers with dementia and is treated well here. She seems very settled and although her weight goes up and down, the staff always seem to do their utmost to ensure she eats. On the whole, we are happy with her care. Sometimes I feel there isn't enough staff on. At weekends there is no-one
on reception so if it's busy waiting to get in can be an issue. A junior to man the door would help.

De Brook Lodge have provided excellent care and made the transition from home to care so much easier. The care staff have all been of a high standard, both professional and caring in their work but also friendly and always happy to talk to the resident or family.

My visit was during the day in April and was unannounced. There was a birthday celebration and all the staff encouraged all the residents to engage in a sing song and dance.


Management staff got involved themselves and there was a truly happy feeling with everyone enjoying themselves.


Whatever

the resident could do either, clapping, singing, dancing, the staff went around them all and involved them. You could tell by their smiles they were having a good time.

My Mum is 94 and she has been at De Brook for two or three years. The carers are very good with her. Getting her up in the morning - which is very hard work! Showering her and generally doing everything I can't do.
She is very well fed and looked after and I feel reassured that she's in a comfortable
safe environment. She often says that she's "lucky to be in such lovely surroundings" which are indeed light airy and modern.

All aspects of my mum's individual care needs are catered for to the highest standard at De Brook Lodge. My mum has always had a healthy appetite and enjoyed her food, and the catering is excellent, nutritious varied and appealing, in fact 5 star hotel quality. My mum has always been very creative,
as she spent her working life as a confectioner cake decorator, and the activities programme is numerous, wide-ranging and interesting, which stimulates her, which she thoroughly enjoys. De Brook is 5 star quality in every aspect of a care home and I would have no hesitation in recommending De Brook Lodge to anyone. Everything about De Brook Lodge gives me confidence and reassurance that my mum is well taken care of and is happy, contented and thoroughly enjoying living there.

Very well placed and an ideal residence for my elderly auntie which has kept her close to her family who live locally in Flixton. It's good to know that my aunt is being cared for and is in a safe environment. The quality of care as seen by myself is second to none. Great understanding and professional

De Brooke Lodge is a very happy environment for my mother to live in. Many days spent with cheerful staff who work very hard in sometimes difficult circumstances. Highlights are trips out of which my mother has enjoyed trips to Safari Park, canal, boat trip and a trip to a hotel in Manchester for afternoon
tea. None of these things would happen without staff care and attention and organisation. Thank you.

Stepping into De Brook Lodge was like entering a four star hotel. The reception area and reception staff were excellent. The decor and cleanliness is of an exceptionally high standard. All of the staff show kindness, friendliness and professionalism at all times and my friend is settling into his new
life very quickly due to their wonderful help and patience. The food is extremely good and is thoroughly enjoyed by my friend at every meal. All the bedrooms are superb and the en-suite bathrooms are fantastic. If in the future I was in the need of a care home I could think of now where better that I would like to live.

We looked at a lot of homes for my father and after seeing De Brook Lodge, we knew that this was the one for him. He is really happy there. He has really changed. He is a different person, much happier.
He has excellent care, enjoys his meals and calls this his home. All the staff are very friendly

I find the carers all very kind. They cater for my vegetarian food extremely well. I highly complement the manager and her team. I feel very lucky to be living here. I do feel at times they can be understaffed, which puts pressure on the staff that day. I don't join in activities and that is my choice
and they respect that.

Our mum moved into De Brook in April 2015. The home is just lovely. We chose it with her as it is clean, safe and the staff appeared to be sincere and very caring towards the residents. She has a beautiful room with an en suite bathroom. She has made lots of friends, not just other residents, but the
staff also. They are fantastic and as much as it was a difficult decision to make to get mum into residential care, I know now that it was a good decision. I know she is safe, happy and cared for in a lovely home with truly lovely and caring staff.
De Brook is a beautiful residential care home and the staff are superb. They make sure our mum gets all the things she loves, including her love of wine with her meal and a couple of brandy's and cokes before bed watching TV. I cannot recommend it enough, Its like a five star hotel with lots of love.

As a dedicated healthcare professional, Alan has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. He is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for residents.


Having worked at HC-One since 2022, Alan closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every resident. He extends this caring approach to his colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what he enjoys most about his role, Alan remarked:


“It is a privilege to care for vulnerable members of our communities. My favourite thing about being a Home Manager is being able to support the staff team, residents and relatives”.


Alan has also achieved much outside of work, with his proudest achievement being completing the UK's highest sky dive at 15,000 feet. Alan also enjoys travelling around the world:
