Nestled in the countryside overlooking fields and woodland, Yarnton is a beautiful care home with stunning gardens.

But it’s the team, who provide residential, dementia, nursing, palliative and respite care, that make it special.

The staff spend so much time getting to know who their residents are, their life histories and what they love to do, so they can enrich their lives.

There is so much to do each and every day. From baking and movement to music sessions, trips out and about in the home’s minibus, to cheese and wine tasting, animal visits and movie nights. There is also a hair salon, with a mobile hairdresser visiting weekly for appointments with the residents.

Yarnton has a ‘Grow Your Own Way’ project, where the residents choose what to plant in the gardens and greenhouse, nurturing their produce, which is then used by the chef in the kitchen. There are also raised beds and wheelchair friendly pathways, so residents in wheelchairs can enjoy gardening too.

The team champion the residents to have a very active role to play in how the home is run, with resident ambassadors who provide feedback on everything from activities to the menu, as well as running residents’ meetings.

The home-cooked food is delicious, from roast dinners with all the trimmings, to fish and chip Friday and home-baking with afternoon tea.

The home is beautiful, with spacious, en-suite bedrooms, lounges where residents can enjoy socialising, as well as smaller cosy lounges to relax in with loved ones, who are welcome to visit at any time.

The home has a private Facebook page, so families and friends can see what the residents are enjoying doing, even when they can’t be there in person.

The community are embraced into life in the home, with regular entertainers, children from the local schools and community volunteers popping in to spend time with the residents, which they love.

I and 3 other volunteers visited this care home for an elderly resident who was at ‘end of life’. The resident was a Muslim resident at this care home who was by now unable to express her last wishes which led to a chain of remarkable events. The manager, set up a meeting with myself to learn what they
should be doing to respect the resident’s wishes. The manager is a very receptive individual who I believe goes beyond her call of duty. She made notes and immediately put into play a couple of the points raised whilst I was still on site. I found the staff to be genuinely inspired by our visits, given we were not friends or relatives of the elderly resident. All the staff we met or interacted with were very welcoming and helpful. In short, this is a well oiled ship steered by a compassionate captain. I would like to thank you, and your lovely staff for the incredible difference you all made at such a critical time.

I was extremely anxious about staying as I had never stayed anywhere other than in hospital before. However, the staff made me feel very welcome. They are very, very hard working and very, very kind. The food is fantastic with a good choice especially the puddings! I really enjoyed the lady from the
kitchen coming to see me and having a dance to my ABBA CD with me. I have had my hair done which is lovely and my nails done. Everyone here is really friendly, and I’m really happy that I came here for respite. The only thing I didn’t like was not being able to pop to the shops.

Mum moved to Yarnton Care Home in March 2021 after a fall, knocking over her 90yr old husband and carer and he broke his hip. She initially came to be cared for by me in Yarnton (she has dementia) and moved to Yarnton Care Home when my Dad was discharged from hospital to recover at my house. I can't
thank the manager and the team enough for responding so quickly in a time of great stress and crisis for us and for helping Mum to feel settled and safe. It was the first time she had been separated from her husband of 65yrs and was therefore a frightening and sad time for her. It speaks volumes for the care and reassurance she has had that, despite her confusion and upset, she has never asked us to take her home and tells us she feels cared for and happy and enjoys the activities there - including her 89th birthday celebration. The relief we feel is tremendous. Covid restrictions have been frustrating and we look forward to a time when we can visit freely. Thank you, all of you.

My father lived in this care home, initially with my mother until she died in 2017 and then until his death at the end of February 2021. The level of care was adequate when they first arrived, but now, in 2021, the care home is professionally run, has exceptionally high standards of care, obvious safeguarding
procedures that staff are expected to follow, excellent reporting processes to families, a personal interest in the residents and an understanding of specific needs and likes, and an ability to treat residents with dignity (even those who are suffering from dementia and exhibiting difficult behaviour). The manager has high expectations of her staff. My father gradually declined and as his capabilities became more limited, he was treated with care and concern and genuine compassion. He was always clean and well looked after, even with severe incontinence issues, and there was no odour around him or in the room. Our family is grateful for the care and understanding they gave.

My Mother moved to Yarnton in April 2020, during the pandemic. She has acute MS and had recently undergone life-threatening surgery. The transition from being an independent woman living alone in her own home, to becoming a resident, has not been an easy one. Especially during a difficult time for all.
I cannot thank the manager enough for the welcome she had and for the excellent care she and her team continues to give. My mother has recovered well and looks amazing and feels more settled. The pressure of looking after a disabled parent can be very overwhelming and causes anxiety. The manager is always at the end of the phone should I need to have a chat and she really understands where I am coming from. The home has taken a great weight off my shoulders and I can now concentrate on being a daughter to my mother and not her carer. The staff are always friendly and helpful. I cannot wait until this pandemic is over and we can all get together more often. Thanks, guys.

My 'Auntie' was, until very recently, a resident at Yarnton and I just wanted to say thank you very much to all the staff for the care and dignity that you provided for her over the years. It was always a pleasure to visit her at Yarnton. It was always such a lovely relaxed atmosphere, with some really

My grandfather came to Yarnton after a serious fall, which hospitalised him. The care, understanding and professionalism was second to none. Through such a hard time, not only did my grandfather receive excellent care and security, but as a family, we felt comforted that he was being so well looked
after. Communication was excellent at all times and during a time of uncertainty (COVID), it was difficult for all of us, however, his spirits were kept high. I would highly recommend it.

My father was a resident in the care home from March 2020 until he passed away in February 2021. He entered the home at the start of the lockdown and all the political fall out from that. The best way I can describe the way the home dealt with it was a can-do attitude. I had regular contact with my
father on the telephone - my choice and regular visits, when permitted. During this time, my two sons were also able to visit their grandfather. When I read stories about other care homes, this does not compare to my experience. I was kept up to date with what was happening in respect of the care home and national guidelines. When my father initially went into the care home, he was very impressed with the food and considering he was thrust into this situation, he did adapt to life in care well. This was, in no small part, due to the professionalism of the staff.

My wife has been a resident for nearly two years, following an accident that left her seriously disabled. She has been well looked after by friendly staff, kept clean, safe, and comfortable. Activities and visits have been curtailed by Covid, but staff have been able to maintain her contact with the
family through twice-weekly Skype conversations and a weekly person-to-person visit. Very relieved that they have been able to keep the home coronavirus free.

My brother was admitted to Sanctuary Care Home in Yarnton in March this year, for the end of life care. He had been diagnosed with cancer in the last stages, and it had affected his brain. He had been extremely confused and frightened in the hospital, but the staff at Yarnton made him comfortable and
were so kind, that he became much more cheerful and settled. This meant the world to me. The manager was so competent and personable that I was reassured he would be treated with kindness and expert care, and indeed this proved to be the case. The building was light and cheerful, his room was lovely, overlooking trees. The care to keep the covid virus out of the premises was extremely impressive, and the fact that it remains so bears testament to the efficiency and vigilance of the manager and indeed all the staff. A lot of other homes would do well to copy their methods. My brother died as was expected a few weeks later, and the whole process was dealt with respectfully and with kindness to myself.

Yarnton is a fantastic care home. Dad stayed in both the Residential and Nursing sections, during his 3-month stay. We cannot speak more highly of the home. The manager is an excellent, caring leader who has developed a great team around her of top-class, professional, caring people, many with a wealth
of experience. Sanctuary truly cares about the residents and staff. It is an organisation that is more interested in delivering a top rate service and loving environment than simply making money. The private rooms and communal areas are spotless, well maintained and homely. Every day, the staff enabled me to talk in private to my father on FaceTime video chat for as long as I wanted. He loved the home. The food is delicious and plentiful. My father had special dietary needs at the end of his life and nothing was too much trouble. The key factor is they have prevented Covid from entering the home throughout the pandemic - first-class medical care for you, staff and your loved one. Fantastic.

Lovely location, very easy to access. Very pleasant staff, kind and respectful. The food seems ok. The bathroom could be cleaner and better waste bins, slightly larger. Some plastic handles of the shower peeling back exposing rust, air vent in the ceiling not cleaned. Maintainance not checked regularly
enough.
Support: - My mother needs some more assistance with rehanging her pictures and tidying up and putting things away, and her clothes checked to see if need laundering. Admin submitted on arrival wasn't processed properly, had to chase.

Take good care of Mum. Staff are very friendly and solicitous towards her. They are friendly and welcoming to my wife and me when we visit.
Rooms/public spaces are good and Mum has settled in well. Staff exhibit genuine care and concern for Mum.
Now well managed.

Yarnton is a well-designed building with a well thought out layout for the residents and the manager's office at the entrance so she is easily accessible to visitors. It has large windows so the place is light and airy, plus it has open views and a lovely garden. We have found all the staff friendly
from the kitchen staff, cleaners, admin and maintenance to the carers. The carers are extremely kind and caring and do their best. We also appreciate the entertainment and activities that are laid on for the residents, for example, the VE Day party in the garden. The carers have facilitated Skype calls to my mother-in-law, this had been set up for us even before lockdown - we are grateful to the carers for fitting this into their already busy day. Also, good nursing staff and the GP calls weekly.

The care given in this nursing home must be the very best in the country.

I love spending time with our residents and their families - I spend most of my time here and it's like having another family!


The staff are so friendly and it really feels like a home for home. When you come here you can feel how friendly it is straight away.
