Nestled in the attractive town of Stalybridge in Manchester, Millbrook supports older people to lead their best lives with personalised residential and residential dementia care.

The attractive, purpose-built home has a spectacular outdoor area, complete with a fountain, which is the perfect place to sit and relax, whilst watching the world go by. There is also a hair salon, nail bar and a range of comfortable en-suite and premier bedrooms to choose from.

At Millbrook, every member of the team is on hand to ensure residents feel supported, comfortable and happy.

The dedicated and professional care team seek to learn about each resident’s hobbies and interests, allowing them to create a comprehensive activity programme, supporting those living in the home to enjoy the things they love most. From building relationships with neighbours in local community groups and schools, to arranging sightseeing trips in the local area, at Millbrook, the team encourage residents to take an active role in the Stalybridge community.

Recognising the unique nutritional needs of older people, the catering team at Millbrook design a varied menu full of delicious meals for residents to enjoy, with visitors always welcome.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to management and staff at Millbrook Care Home for the care and compassion given to our lovely Mum. Mum was a resident at Millbrook for 4.5 years and it gave us great comfort to know that she received care with dignity and respect by friendly
and helpful members of staff.
We also wish to pay tribute to the way staff continued their compassionate, caring role during the period of the Covid-19 virus, given the dangers, restrictions and difficult working conditions, a very stressful time for staff and their families alike.

My family and I felt very lucky when we found Millbrook Care Centre after viewing several less suitable homes. The immediate impression is of a very clean, bright and cheerful place. The rooms are nicely furnished, and residents are encouraged to make them homely with their own familiar possessions.
The staff have looked after my father in a friendly and caring manner throughout the last eighteen months and always kept us well informed. The team of carers has remained largely unchanged during this time which provides continuity of care and friendship for my father. This has been particularly important in recent weeks as we have been unable to visit during the lockdown and, despite the pressure they are under, they have gone out of their way to reassure and support residents and their families.

My husband suffers from Parkinsons Disease, vascular dementia and Lewy bodies, he was treated with excellent care, dignity and all his needs were considered. He was well cared for, well-fed (level 5 diet), and settled in well. Everything was extremely good, and my husband settled in well as if he was
at home. Could do with a few more staff and a bit more mental stimulation instead of just falling asleep in the lounge. Otherwise no complaints.

The staffing levels at Millbrook are under constant review by the management team within HC-One. Each month or following any changes to occupancy and dependency levels, the Clinical Risk Register is updated which allows us to review whether the staffing levels in the home are sufficient in terms of skill mix and staffing numbers. HC-One have also launched their new Wellbeing initiative which includes structured activities, weekly planners and meaningful activity cards to support all staff to engage in wellbeing activities.

The home is very well maintained with all areas being frequently cleaned. The management teams and carers keep a well-kept ship but are stretched at shift changes, particularly with the less mobile residents.
The food was good and varied, with the sweets being excellent, salads very good, cooked meals
good and improved considerably by a short microwave heat before serving. Breakfast was adequate but non-descript.
Two lounges are available and comfy with good-sized televisions. Entertainment is limited and it makes for the more able-bodied feeling restricted.

We do try to vary our breakfast offering, a full continental breakfast and a hot choice. Our chefs are also happy to provide alternatives if menu options do not tempt. Our two wellbeing coordinators aim to offer varied activities to appeal to all our Residents and we try to capture individual interests on admission to support this. We review our staffing daily which in turn should alleviate any shortfalls at shift changeover.

We needed emergency respite care for Mum, who suffers from Vascular Dementia and is very frail, as her primary carer, our dad had been taken into hospital. We were really pleased when Mum was able to get a room here as it was very close to home and enabled the family to make regular visits. We could
not have asked for a better place. Everyone was so helpful, from the management who went the extra mile to facilitate her stay, to the staff who cared for her in a thoughtful, kind and professional way. The whole building was fresh, clean and welcoming. The resident's bedrooms were large, comfortable and well furnished with walk-in shower rooms. Whilst the communal areas were light, bright and very spacious allowing residents to see their visitors with a degree of privacy and without disruption to other residents. After his release from the hospital, Dad spent a lot of time at the care centre with Mum and was made to feel very welcome and cared for too, giving us peace of mind.

Food was a bit up and down, not always something I liked to eat on the menu. Staff were good and friendly. Lovely room. Activities I tried were OK.

Residents are offered a choice of nutritious foods and fluids throughout the day and night to ensure they have the opportunity to eat and drink a balanced diet. HC-One strives to offer the highest level of nutrition and hydration to meet individual Resident needs in keeping with kind care. To maintain Residents’ dietary needs, a four week menu cycle has been produced which changes twice a year for the summer and winter seasons. The menus and recipes are reviewed biannually and changed for the spring and autumn seasons. Residents are encouraged to taste new recipes and sample new menu items. The three main meals of the day – breakfast, lunch and evening meals, all have a minimum of two courses and alternative choices are available for those Residents who do not wish to eat the meal options prepared; this is offered on an individual basis, to cater for Residents who have personal food preferences.

About 12 months ago I was extremely concerned about the management of the home at Millbrook and also the morale of the staff. Since a new manager has been appointed, the home has improved tremendously in all areas.
My only issue is the food. Whilst satisfactory and well prepared, I consider that the
nutritional value needs to be reviewed.

Thank you for taking the time in completing a review for the Millbrook, we are delighted you are happy with the progress of the home since the new Home Manager has been in place. All our recipes are engineered to be nutritionally dense for our Residents. The recipes are analysed through a food management and meal planning software, which then generates recipe cards which includes nutritional, allergens and HACCP information to support our chef in the homes.

My wife and I had found that ill health for both of us was becoming very difficult especially with me being my wife's carer. I find the care home is one of the best. The feed back from people I have met about other homes has not been good and puts you in a difficult position about finding the appropriate place. I heard about this through family friends.
Everyone is polite, friendly and helpful and caring. We are fed well
kept clean and the home is spotless. I myself would recommend it to others.

Millbrook looked after my uncle extremely well over a period of 7 weeks when he was in need of care. The place is immaculate, the staff are friendly, caring and supportive. My uncle made friends with residents and their relatives in what was a lovely atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble and just
before he left, he enjoyed a trip out to Salford Museum. He was sad to leave, but returned home to live independently.

Mum moved, not only form her own home but from an area outside Tameside. It was a traumatic time and could have been a mistake on my part to move her close to my own home in Tameside. Thankfully due to the caring staff, Mum soon adapted and is now thriving, both mentally and physically forging new friendships.

Mum recently lost her husband and as a result has become more distressed and confused than previously. During this time, Millbrook have done their best to support her, working with her GP and ourselves as relatives. She has been encouraged to eat and to join in with activities. I have often found when

As a dedicated healthcare professional, Claire has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for Residents.


Claire closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Claire remarked:


“Being able to help others achieve their goals, not just within the staff team but also for the people we care for.”


Outside of work, Claie enjoys spending time with her family and going on holidays, including Italy which is her favourite place to visit. She also loves animals and goes walking a lot with her French Bulldog, called Lulu.
