Very well looked after by caring lovely staff. Only slight problem, hot food served on cool plates, suggest a heated cabinet.

My mum has only been in the lodge for a couple of months. I feel since moving her care just isn't the same. Some days I go she's covered in food, her bedding is quite often dirty, covered in food and sometimes faeces. I don't feel she's a little neglected with her hygiene. I asked before Christmas if
she could have her hair cut and facial hair removed which didn't get done. Overall a bit disappointed.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that you are disappointed with the service provided to your mum. I will be in touch to explore this further and discuss how we can improve moving forward.

My mam went into care in May 2022, as her dementia worsened, and she found it very difficult to come to terms with her situation, however through the relentless efforts of the care team at Astor Lodge she is now settling into this new phase of her life. As a family we are extremely grateful that we
can now rest assured that our mam is being well looked after in a friendly, safe and caring environment.

Astor View has made my Mam's last few months very comfortable. They took care of her with dignity and love. My Mam was very happy there. The only downside is the laundry. Clothes never looked ironed and belongings seem to get lost.

Reply from Kelly Angus, Home Manager at Astor Lodge View

Thank you for your comments. We’re very glad to hear that you were happy with the care that your mam received during her stay with us and I will pass on your kind words to the staff. With regards to the laundry, I will investigate this and look into making improvements to this service.

Have been at Astor View for several months, both as residential and now nursing. Never expecting I would end up in care, I have had to adapt to a new way of life. The care and consideration given to me is first rate and although many of the residents are bed bound and with dementia etc, I have tried
to mix as best I can. I get plenty of encouragement from management and staff. I would not have made the progress I have on my own.

My mother is taken very good care of at Astor Lodge View care home and she enjoys the food and other residents can often come in to say hello and make friends. Her room is cleaned daily and the staff and management are extremely good and kind to my mam. I can now relax a lot more knowing my mam is being
well cared for and looked after by the manager and all the nursing and care staff.

Most of the staff are pleasant and helpful but I have not seen the manager since admission. Unit manager very unhelpful. Room smells of urine. Asked for the carpet to be cleaned as it stinks but this hasn't been done.

Reply from Tara Groza, Home Manager at Astor Lodge View

I apologise that we’ve not yet had the chance to meet during your visits. I do walkarounds at the home daily but due to unavoidable administrative commitments, I do have to spend a lot of my time in the office. I have an open door policy so please know that you can come and see me at anytime. We are in the process of renewing flooring in all rooms, including our communal areas, but this will take several months to complete. In the meantime, we have a deep cleaning schedule in place and also double clean any room prior to an admission.

Mum has been resident here for 7 months following a fall which resulted in a long hospital stay.
The staff are lovely and nothing is too much trouble.
The food is excellent and there is plenty to eat.
Someone pops in to see if mum needs anything at least every hour, frequently more often.
The rooms
are comfortable and kept very clean.
Overall an excellent home which I would recommend to others.

Current Review Score: 6.9 (6.922)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 6.9 (6.922) out of 10 for Astor Lodge View is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.8 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.2 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.750 for Astor Lodge View is calculated as follows: ( (8 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 3.75

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.172 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Astor Lodge View is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 29 registered maximum number of service users is 5.8. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 5.8 = 0.172

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Hello, my name is Kelly Angus and I am the Home Manager of Astor Court and Astor Lodge.

I began my career in care in 1996 as a Laundry Assistant before working my way up to become Deputy Manager and going on to commission a residential care unit. I left to train as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) and after I qualified in 2005 I worked in A&E before returning to care homes in 2008 as a home manager.

The thing that sets Astor Court and Lodge apart is our outstanding members of staff. Everyone here has a true passion for care and will go above and beyond to deliver excellent care to all of our residents, while also offering support to their loved ones.

You are always welcome to drop in for a chat over coffee and to sample life in our home. We provide activities seven days a week, menus to suit all tastes and preferences, plus person- centred residential, nursing and dementia care.

Visitors and families are always welcome at any time and we can offer advice on any aspect of care with no obligation. We look forward to meeting you.
