When Mum became unable to care for herself, we, as a family, took the difficult decision to find a suitable care establishment for her. As soon as we visited Gracewell we knew this would be her 'home from home' and I am pleased to say that she lived there very happily for fifteen months until her recent
death.
From day one, the staff were welcoming, caring and totally professional. Mum settled immediately and blossomed with the delicious and nutritious meals, fun activities and outings and the loving and devoted care of all staff.
Whenever we visited we also received a warm welcome and on several occasions, we enjoyed lunch with Mum in the bistro. Nothing was too much trouble. Latterly, as mum's health declined, she was treated with respect and dignity and we are so grateful for all the loving care she received. Thank you all.

Mum lived at Gracewell of Chingford from December 2016 until her recent death. She was reluctant to move from her home of 67 years, but it was not possible for her to remain living independently. From the very moment she moved into Gracewell she was treated with dignity, respect and kindness from a
wonderful team. As a result, she blossomed and became quite a character. Gracewell became her home and I was always welcomed so warmly, at any time I visited. Nothing was too much trouble and Mum really enjoyed all her lovely meals, taking part in the activities, as well as trips out. Gracewell exudes a warm and loving atmosphere, and I cannot praise everyone, from the housekeeping staff to the catering team, the professional carers and the management team, highly enough. In the end, Mum wanted to stay in her own bed, in her own room, The team made that possible, caring for her until the very last moment. Thank you all so much, I will never forget what a difference you made to us.

I am more than satisfied with the level of care mum is receiving.


Concerns relate to ....her clothes being 'stuffed into her drawers, despite me labelling each drawer it is ignored, pyjamas particularly are scrunched up. Mum never lived like this at home and I feel it in a small way her dignity is

not considered.


It is good that the front lounge is being used but I do despair when I visit that on quite a few occasions staff sit at one end chatting amongst themselves and residents look abandoned...staff do respond to the residents but could this not be improved?


Table clothes are quite often stained and an absence of condiments. Could Gracewell consider getting some pretty PVC tablecloths which can be wiped clean after each meal with paper serviettes available on the table? Lots of residents drop their food, ruin their clothes and look a mess.


The fruit salads are hard and lack variety.


I wish mum could be encouraged to go to the Bistro every day, I do not believe the above would be costly.

Overall good. Low level of staff presence at weekends is a cause for concern both for safety reasons and for resident needs.

I would like to see further training in dementia care for all carers as it is a very large area of study and understanding. Also, more support needed for carers at weekends. However, all staff work tirelessly to provide the best care for all residents and provide excellent family support.

Every time I visit I find my mum happy and well cared for in all ways. The staff are all nice people and I cannot thank them too much. The home is very clean, tidy and nothing is too much to do. Looking at your rating on the notice board, I think it was too low and should be 10 out of 10. All homes
should be run to this standard in my view and my thanks to all at Chingford for what they do for mum.

Our friend moved into Gracewell of Chingford four weeks ago. Staff made her very welcome. All very kind and positive, we have had an excellent lunch with her in the bistro. Staff showed us photographs taken on the outings she has been on. Many in such a short period of time and she has obviously really
enjoyed them. She seems to be eating well and looks happy.

I think that everyone struggles with the decision to move a loved one into residential care and we often think we are doing the right thing by trying to keep them in their own home for as long as possible. Now my only wish is that I had moved my mum, who has Alzheimers, here earlier. Every time I leave,
I almost cry with happiness about the fact that she is so happy, relaxed and well cared for by brilliant staff in lovely surroundings. At home, on her own (but with live-in carers) she was often stressed, agitated and deeply unhappy. While I know she still has moments of extreme agitation (as that's the nature of the disease sadly), I know these incidents are managed with professionalism and compassion. I recommend Gracewells to anyone trying to do the best thing for a loved one with Alzheimers.

Since my mother moved to Gracewell, we have met and become friends with a wonderful and caring team of staff. The welcoming and support given to immediate family and visiting relatives on every visit confirms the decision to take my mother into the Gracewell team to be the right one. The receptionist,

My mother lived in Gracewell for nearly 4 years until her very recent death. Everything at Gracewell is very high quality indeed but it is the attitude and skills of the care staff which make this place very special. They really get to know and care about the residents and ensure that all their needs
are met. My mother had very advanced Alzheimers but was treated with dignity and gentleness. When mum died, the staff were all very supportive of the family and we regard them as family.

Disappointed that the mini bus has been sold and not replaced, disappointed that residents will now have to pay for their own taxis if they wish to go out socially.
Disturbed that lighting on the top floor has not been repaired after 6 weeks.
Unhappy that my resident's radiators have not worked for
some weeks during this cold spell of weather, despite being reported more that once in the maintenance book.
Surprised that the excellent long term cook has been removed and replaced by a relative.
Individual carers and deputy managers are very good.

The home is run for the resident's comfort and pleasure, treating them as senior citizens who appreciate the good things in life. The residents are largely left to choose what they want to do when and where they want to do it and are supported in doing it by some very kind and helpful staff. The residence
is kept clean and tidy without being overdone and not too regimented. My mother is very happy and comfortable, requires very little help, but very much appreciated the security and knowledge that if she needs help it is always in hand.

Jacob Mante

Job Title: General Manager

I share Care UK’s ethos, and I am proud to be a part of the Ivy Grove family.


My experience working as a General Manager at Ivy Grove has been very fulfilling. I work closely with my team to deliver high-quality care and a person-centred lifestyle to all of our residents at the home.


I hold a graduate diploma in law, and I am proud to have achieved a 1st class degree in nursing. In this role, it is important to have good interpersonal skills, and empathy, and to be transparent in everything that I do. My favourite part of the day is when I start in the morning and interact with my team and the residents—it’s always nice to see smiles on the residents' faces at the start of the day.


Outside of work, I play football, tennis, and rugby with my friends. I also look forward to spending time with my children and being a part of the activities that they are in. I am always proud to see their achievements, be they big or small.
