Acacia Mews in Hatfield opened in 2012 and offers services to those who need residential, dementia or respite care. The top floor of the three-storey building contains mini-suites with kitchen facilities, suitable for couples.

Couples and companions are warmly welcomed in the home where their well-being, comfort and happiness are the team's top priority.

Other rooms are equipped with walk-in showers and flat-screen TVs and have plenty of space for personalisation. The communal lounges and courtyard garden with potting shed are full of activity and socialising, whether it’s hatching out chickens, gardening, or just having a conversation over coffee. There is an onsite hairdresser for residents to treat themselves to a fresh haircut or relax with a massage in the therapy room.

Care is given from a dedicated team of professionals who respect the dignity of each individual.

Residents are warmly welcomed and settle in quickly. Friends and family visits are encouraged, as is participation in the running of the home.

Acacia Mews is welcoming, friendly and homely. The staff always put the residents first.
The food is very good and the activities offered are varied and interesting. The door to the manager's office is always open so they are very approachable should you need to speak about anything.

I visited my mother in her comfortable room most evenings over a period to two and a half years until her death in January. The staff were born attentive and kind. We all became good friends and I am grateful to all of them.

A member of staff in particular on the 2nd floor is outstanding - she's friendly, professional and is exceptional at her job and is very personable in her approach.
My aunt is happy being a resident - she loves the food, is very comfortable in her room and is sleeping very well.
As a family, we would
love her to stay on but she's wanting to go home.

This is a beautiful care home with lovely facilities.
The residents here seem very happy and it is heartwarming to see such loving staff take care of the residents.
The staff have also been extremely helpful and kind to us.

The staff have developed a meaningful relationship with all patients, they are passionate about their job. The home is always impeccably clean and well run, and the food is excellent. But the building has let the staff down, in regard to the levels of air conditioning over the past two weeks, as the
temperature has reached beyond 30'. Other than that, I am very happy with the level of my mothers care.

The home always appears clean and friendly. We visit once a month to see our friend as we live in Hampshire. We are always made very welcome. We take our friend out for lunch so we do not see the catering etc.

When I chose to have some respite care at Acacia Mews, after ankle surgery, I had no idea what to expect. I need not have worried! I have been looked after in a most caring way. I have been impressed by the teamwork by all the staff, including the cleaning and catering girls and boys. Many of the residents
have needs much greater than mine, and the care staff were unstinting in looking after them. I almost regret that my three weeks have come to an end, but home beckons!!

I felt very welcome at Acacia Mews Care Home during my 2-week stay after the hospital. Having all the attention and meals served was like being on holiday. The layout and décor are excellent and having three floors completely independent with only about 20 residents meant there was plenty of attention
and space. I found the staff very caring, although there were busy times when I had to wait for attention.The only negative was the bed springs which I could feel as I was fairly immobile.

Recently a 'beach party' was organised by activity ladies at my mother's care home. Unfortunately the party had to be brought indoors due to bad weather. The whole thing was a resounding success, enjoyed by both staff and residents, including my mum, who will rarely come out of her room. 'Elvis'
was in the building, performing songs which everyone enjoyed. Afterwards, we had fish and chips and ice cream.


I would like to thank all the efforts of the staff for making this a lovely day.

My sister and I visit mum twice weekly. We are always greeted with a smile and have a chat at the reception. As we walk through the home you can not but notice how clean and tidy it all is. Reaching Blue Ball Suite the staff are always there to comment on mum's welfare. We like the menus on display
as we can then chat with mum about her meals and what we have seen of the food is all presented well and looks tasty. Mum is always clean with a change of clothes and very well cared for. We are not so sure of who is the manager, perhaps it would be an idea for her sometimes to come and speak to those who visit the home.

Acacia Mews has continued to excel in its care for its residents. My mother has been here for over 4 years and the home has steadily improved year on year. It has always been good but I think that the experience of the staff and management has enabled them to improve their services even more. Communication
with the resident's families has improved - there is a feeling now that the home is very stable - staff turnover appears to be relatively low, which is a good sign, as is the recruitment and training of the staff too.

My mother was living alone in Lancashire, she was extremely lonely, stopped eating and was seriously under weight. She came into Acacia Mews and took a little while to settle preferring to eat her meals in her room and not joining in social activities. Now she is completely settled, going to all activities
both morning ad afternoon, particularly the pottery club. She now treats the home as her home. I think she can be quite difficult and opinionated but that is only because she feels so comfortable. If she had stayed where she was, she wouldn't be alive now. I will be forever grateful.

Bella Lech

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Joined: 2014

My name is Bella, short for Izabela, and I am Polish. I have worked for Avery since 2014 and I am the Deputy Manager at Acacia Mews. My first role was as a hostess and care assistant. I was promoted to the senior care assistant role in December 2014 and then became a team leader in October 2015. I was promoted to deputy manager in February 2021.


I have a level 3 diploma in health and social care and the equivalent of a BSc (Hons) degree in psychology and social rehabilitation.


I really enjoy my work and can confirm we are all one big family at Avery.


My philosophy is simple, live life to the fullest and I would like everyone to do that


Ana

Ana Paven

Job Title: Team Leader

Joined: 2014

My name is Ana and I am 38yrs old.

I came to the UK from Romania in 2014 with my husband to build a new life.


In 2016, after many applications to different care homes, without success, Acacia Mews gave me a chance and I started to work as a Care Assistant on the night shift. With my ambition and respect for the role I was in, I was supported by Avery to complete my NVQ 2 in health and social care. In 2018 I was promoted to Senior Carer. In 2020 I enrolled at Bedfordshire University and started my level 5 in Health and Social Care.


In 2022 I changed to day shifts after I was promoted to Team Leader.


I am very dedicated to the job that I do, I am empathetic, and patient and enjoy working as part of a team.


Robbie

Robbie McLean

Job Title: Head Chef

Joined: 2022

My name is Robbie and I am the Head Chef at Acacia Mews.


I first started working here in 2014 as a Kitchen Assistant. I worked my way up to a trainee Chef and achieved levels 1 and 2 in Hospitality and Catering. I left Acacia Mews in 2017 to gain more experience in different environments and I returned as Head Chef in 2022. I love the fact that I can be more creative here, and I missed the interaction with the residents.


I have 2 young Sons that keep me busy outside of work but I still find time to think about and practice new recipes. I think it is really important to get feedback from the people that live at Acacia Mews to ensure I can deliver the meals that they enjoy.

Aleksandra Tomczak

Job Title: Head Housekeeper

Joined: 2013

My name is Aleksandra Tomczak but I like to be known as Aleks.


I am the Head Housekeeper at Acacia Mews. I started working here in 2013 as a Housekeeper before being promoted to Head Housekeeper in 2017.


I moved to the UK from Poland in 2008. I live with my Husband and our British Blue cat called Mr Wilson. I have one Son who now lives in Chicago, USA.


Interaction with the residents is a rewarding part of my role as well as working in a great team.

Corrinne Parish

Job Title: Wellbeing Coordinator

Joined: 2016

My name is Corrinne Parish and I am the Wellbeing Coordinator for Acacia Mews.


I have worked at Acacia Mews for 7 years.
I live with my Husband and have 3 children, 2 grandsons and a granddog.


My job role is to facilitate and deliver activities and events for the residents in the home. No day is ever the same whether it be organising resident days out, arts and crafts sessions, singalongs or having a quiet one-to-one conversation with an individual resident.


I love my job because it is so rewarding to see the residents' smiles and appreciation for what the well-being team do for them.


Urszula

Urszula Hoss

Job Title: Administartor

Joined: 2014

Hi, I am Urszula but I like to be called Ula. I am the Home Administrator at Acacia Mews.


I started working at Acacia Mews in 2014 as a Hostess and really enjoyed this role however after two years I applied to work in reception and become a Customer Services Advisor. I was successful and really enjoyed this position, meeting families, and residents and interacting with people really suits my personality.


I then had the opportunity to learn the role of Administrator and have been in this role for the past 5 years.


In my time outside of work, and apart from time with my family, I help out at Herts Phoenix Athletic Club and enjoy going for a run around Stanborough Lakes with my daughters and partner.
