Rowan Lodge is an award-winning care home nestled within the beautiful North Hampshire countryside, combining 24-hour residential and nursing care with warm and friendly hospitality for up to 60 residents on a permanent and respite basis.

Surrounded by peaceful countryside, residents enjoy meadow views from their luxury bedrooms equipped with ensuite facilities, spacious communal areas for entertaining and dining, a dedicated activities room, café, cinema and hair salon. Contrasting tones and colourful digital wallpapers are incorporated into the interior décor for visual stimulus.

Outside, a quaint summer house, tranquil courtyard, and terraces with alfresco dining areas provide perfect outdoor spaces for residents and their loved ones to enjoy. Raised herb gardens with vibrant flowers offer sensory experiences for residents to independently explore.

A dedicated activities team prioritise resident wellbeing by organising a variety of meaningful and joyful group, individual and one-to-one activities and experiences. Activities are adapted to the daily wishes of residents, their cultural interests, and supported by life-story work in line with Rowan Lodge’s ethos of a person-centred approach to care. Some of the many activities they provide are; cultural days, themed tea parties and dining experiences, classic car events, floristry workshops, wildlife talks, Tai Chi, trips out to nearby attractions (and the seaside), live musical entertainers – Irish dancers, ukulele players, Motown singers, tribute acts and visiting animals – alpacas, birds of prey and even penguins to name a few!

My mum has been at Rowan Lodge for 10 months. The staff helped her settle in really well. There is a good amount of activities, however, on the dementia floor more are needed. It would be nice to see the staff playing games with the dementia residents instead of them just sitting watching TV or sleeping.
Mum enjoys dominos and jigsaw puzzles when I visit. Family can join in any activities or events they put on. The Christmas party was lovely.
Family members can visit any day and any time, you can join for meal times with notice. The meals are nice and a varied choice.
The home is very clean and is in a lovely countryside setting with a nice courtyard garden, which the residents can use when they want to. The home has a secure front door and the dementia floor has another secure door to stop anyone wandering.
Mum's quality of life is so much better too when she was living on her own with carers going in daily. It's a lovely care home to visit.

Our family member has been a resident of Rowan Lodge for 1 year and can say we are sure we made the right decision as he is settled, happy and content. The carers and management that run the lodge are fantastic and so dedicated in their jobs, I truly take my hat off to them all. Of course, with all
private care homes comes a big price tag which our weak government needs to sort out! The price one pays certainly doesn't reflect the care one gets. This is no reflection of the carers and their ability to care for their patients, it's just that the pricing levels are wrong and with all care homes there are staff shortages which are noticed and is hard to get the right experience on board because of the long hours and hard dedicated work these carers have to put in to ensure the good health and safety of all residents. Forest Care needs to review and reflect a respectable level per month that is affordable for the average person!

Rowan Lodge staff were extremely helpful and professional when it became necessary to move a family member into residential care. They made a challenging time manageable and gave of their time and expertise without question. Our family member is being very well cared for by staff who value and respect
every resident’s individuality and who take the time to build positive relationships with all those in their care. Rowan Lodge provides a safe, secure, caring and stimulating environment for all residents. Family and friends are made to feel welcome at all times and staff will always take the time to answer questions or just reassure and support.

I feel that more activities are needed in the dementia area. Too much sitting and sleeping. The permanent carers in the dementia area are excellent. However, unfortunately, there seems to be a need to employ agency staff and I am not happy about the lack of interest they show in the residents.

Rowan Lodge appears to be well run.
Staff all appear to be competent, helpful and respectful to both residents and visitors.
Food is generally of a good quality with some choice of dishes.
The rooms are of a reasonable size, all with en-suite facilities.
The common rooms are well laid out and have
adequate room for residents and groups of visitors.

Such a lovely place. Fresh, bright with a warm friendly atmosphere.
This is a gem of a place. I finally see my mother getting the care she so deserves. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and always make us feel welcome at any time.
It's almost like visiting my mum in her own home, not a Nursing
Home. Its a breath of fresh air.

I spent 2 weeks at Rowan Lodge recuperating after an operation. Everyone couldn't have done more to help and all the staff greeted me by name whenever they saw me. The whole place is well-kept and the decor and furnishings are of a high standard. I was impressed by the way that all the staff were prepared
to spend a long time reassuring residents that had just arrived or were having a 'down' day. They showed infinite patience with more demanding residents. The food was good and varied.

Rowan Lodge is a pleasant modern home where a high proportion of residents have varying levels of dementia. The staff, in most cases, are friendly and caring and committed to their role. My mother who is in her mid 90's has been in the home for four years so we have seen many changes, mostly for the
better. I have and my family always felt very welcome and we are able to pop in and out whenever we wish.

I am very pleased with the care given to my mother by the regular carers, especially on the day shift. I have seen an improvement in the home over the last year and hope that this long continues. I still have concerns regarding agency staff on the night shift.

Rowan Lodge is just over 5 years old, so the facilities are good. My mother has been there almost from the start and is very happy. During this time there have been highs and lows but the quality of on-site management has improved immensely with the appointment of the current team some 18 months ago.


The

team have worked hard in the last 18 months or so to improve procedures, which was needed, and have upgraded decor/ furnishing and the food served.


There is a general issue of staff shortages in the care sector in the South East that Rowan Lodge has not escaped. But the management team has endeavoured to ensure that agency staff meet its standards and procedures.


My mother and I would wholeheartedly recommend Rowan Lodge.

Mum was a resident of Rowan Lodge for nearly 6 years until her death on Christmas Day. She had complex mental problems together with Alzheimer's and advanced Dementia that meant she was a difficult person to manage. Despite this her care was exemplary and she was treated with dignity, respect and affection.
When her dementia worsened and she no longer recognised the family, she instinctively put her total trust in the staff.It was such a comfort to me. When Mum passed away at Rowan Lodge the staff on duty were absolutely wonderful. They were understanding and compassionate.We were taken into a private room and given hot drinks - and even offered something stronger by the Manager! I cannot praise the staff enough. It was the end of life that I had always prayed that my Mum would have. Peaceful, pain-free and dignified.

My father has been at Rowan Lodge for 2 years now, and we have been very happy with the care he has received. The current management team are excellent, and the carers are extremely helpful, friendly and caring.


The bedroom accommodation and en-suite is very good, and the lounges spacious and

well laid out. The home is in a lovely countryside location with a very sunny patio to sit out on as well as a front garden. There are lots of organised activities and entertainment.

In August we had 'Classic Cars', the weather was warm and sunny. It really was a most enjoyable day, relaxing with everyone. We had afternoon entertainment, couples dancing the jive and lots of picnic food was provided. Hot dogs, little cakes and all kinds of drinks. It was truly a lovely afternoon
enjoyed by all.

On Saturday 12th August, my husband and I attended a vintage car event held in the car park of the home.
We were late arriving as my father's home had a BBQ on the same day. There was a good selection of vintage cars on display and two couples in 40's costumes were jiving to music in the centre. Although
my mum wasn't present, there were plenty of residents enjoying the nostalgia. The sun was shining and staff also made an effort to dress up and were serving milkshakes. A great effort.

Accommodation equivalent to 4 star hotel standard. Food very good, traditional in quality and quantity with plenty of choice. All staff from cleaners to care staff very caring, friendly, sympathetic with empathy to care needs of residents. it would have been useful to have a briefing or leaflet from
senior staff about domestic arrangements - laundry, bath/shower, meal times, bed adjustment etc.
Many times the water jugs were not filled nor beds made and I had to call the busy care staff. Why not get the cleaners to do this?

Dan

Dan Binney

Job Title: Service Manager

Joined: 2016

Dan has 25 years’ experience in the NHS working in Mental Health Services. He has worked extensively in care records and client-based electronic systems. Dan worked as part of the National Program team installing the first client based electronic care record into Barnsley and Community Priority Services NHS Trust and later took the role as Systems Manager. In 2011, he became the Administration Manager for a Memory Service in South Yorkshire, together with the Service Manager; they took the service forward winning the award of excellence in the Memory Services National Accreditation Program with the Royal College of Psychiatry which is endorsed by the CQC.
In 2015, Dan emigrated to Gran Canaria where he worked for a law firm who specialised in helping English ex-pats who had bought property in the Canaries who required legal assistance. He then returned to the UK in 2016 when he began work with Forest Care.


Wendy

Wendy Tidbury

Job Title: Home Administrator

Joined: 2017

Wendy is our outgoing and empathetic Home Administrator. She is a passionate member of the team, striving to add a personal touch to the care given to residents and support to relatives.


As Administrator, Wendy is responsible for the day-to-day administrative functioning of the home and supporting Dan. This involves a variety of tasks such as employment checks, enquiry handling, show rounds and admissions, to reassuring residents and relatives and dealing with their day-to-day requests.
