Cedars Care Home provides first-class care in picturesque Southend-on-Sea.

CQC has rated the home as 'good' overall and 'outstanding' in the 'responsive' category, reflecting a flexible approach to residents’ individual choice and continuity of care (June 2019).

This modern, purpose-built home offers exceptional long-term and respite care for the elderly, and those living with dementia-related conditions. Cedars prides itself on ensuring the best possible quality of life for residents, providing professional care delivered with empathy, compassion and a focus on dignity.

Cedars has been recognised for the quality of its palliative and end of life care, regularly receiving accolades from the Palliative Care Awards and the Great British Care Awards.

It has recently been re-accredited as part of the Gold Standards Framework, also receiving the GSF Quality Hallmark Award (October 2024).

There is accommodation for 48 residents over three floors in bright, spacious, comfortable and well-furnished rooms, each with a pleasant aspect and ensuite or wet room facilities. The home has a lovely light and airy feel, with homely communal areas, lounges and dining rooms on each floor, and a wheelchair-accessible garden.   The communal areas are designed to provide relaxed spaces to socialise or participate in daily activities. There is also a hairdressing salon.

The home also encourages residents to personalise their rooms with favourite pictures and photographs, ornaments and small items of furniture.

There is lift access to all floors, and all areas are wheelchair accessible. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the home and all rooms are equipped with TV, a nurse call system and an adjustable automatic bed.

There is always a warm welcome upon arrival for each visit. Management are approachable on any issues. The carers are very friendly and positive. My mother is treated with respect and appears to be in excellent hands. I certainly would recommend this establishment.

The staff are a joy to see each time we visit. There is always so much positivity and a warm welcome from all. You really do make us feel like one of your family. My stepmother is very lucky to be looked after by you all and we thank you so very much.

Mum moved to Cedars Care Home in March 2022 and after a few unsettling weeks in new surroundings has now settled in and is very happy with the care and support she receives, she is also blind which is an added handicap but the staff are very attentive to her.
I would strongly advise anyone who is considering
care for a parent or becoming a resident at Cedars to come.

My mum entered Cedars Care Home in July 2021 and was not managing to care for herself at home any longer. Mum has improved a lot and gets all the help she needs while being encouraged to do things for herself wherever possible. Although Mum is not too keen on some of the activities she is always asked
if she wants to join in, she likes to sit in the garden, weather permitting. I have found the level of care to be excellent.

We feel very fortunate that we managed to get a room at Cedars Care Home for my mother-in-law in January 2022. From the moment we visited we felt the warmth and care from every staff member we came across. Each time we encountered another staff member going about their duties, either cleaning, serving
tea, helping residents, there was always a warm and welcoming smile and comment. We felt at home instantly. My mother-in-law said at the time, "If you get fed up with me I wouldn't mind moving in permanently!", I said, "Don't get any ideas! This is temporary!".
My mother-in-law was dealt with by caring and attentive staff with love, kindness, respect and a chirpy attitude. She joined in with chair Zumba, music afternoons, bingo and was happy to socialise with other residents and spend time at the nurse's station each day - this is something she said she would never do!
It was lovely. A stressful time was made pleasant with the knowledge that my mother-in-law was safe, cared for and happy.

Our mother was finding it difficult to look after herself to the same standard as she was used to doing. The Cedars Care Home provides this care by way of the staff, who are very diligent and caring in their duties.
The staff are helpful and approachable, and our mother wants for nothing.

With the Covid difficulties experienced by everyone, the opportunities to visit have been limited. Generally, my wife goes to see her mother. However, I am aware the management at Cedars Care Home in Southend have done all they can to maintain a good service of care for their patients/residents. They
have also been quick to assist in keeping communications open.

My relative is very happy with the care she receives and says that she is 'well looked after'. I am also pleased with the standard of her care. Over the last two years with the varying Covid restrictions, the staff at Cedars Care Home have always done their best to keep me informed and were able to
accommodate visits when allowed. It was especially appreciated that I could visit over the Christmas period last year.

I would recommend Cedars Care Home to anyone looking for either a residency or respite care for their family member or friend. The staff are caring, and it has been our families experience that all staff are very approachable and friendly and that the care of the resident is very important. During Covid,
it has been extremely testing for residents, care workers and all staff at the home. I would like to thank them for keeping us up-to-date with key changes and for keeping all as safe as possible. The cleanliness is very good, and they have continued to try and stimulate the residents with various activities, even though at times, I'm sure this must have been difficult. Thank you all.

We, as a family, would thoroughly recommend Cedars Care Home. All staff are welcoming and friendly, and nothing is too much trouble. The care our mum receives is amazing, and everyone is so kind and caring. The home is bright and extremely clean, and we feel very happy that our mum is under their care.
They have an entertainments programme for the residents, take them out for trips if they are able and generally have the residents well-being as a first priority. Cedars, you are truly amazing; thank you for everything you do!

Everyone at Cedars Care Home has been found to be helpful and with a smile on their face. Assist residents to feel at home. It has been noted that many go the extra mile to ensure this. The food is well presented and tasty. The entertainment trips out and facility to use the garden is much appreciated.

Mum had been a resident for over 7 years. In that time her needs changed and her care was always appropriate. She went from being able to walk with a zimmer frame and then a wheelchair and finally bed-bound. At all times she was encouraged to be as independent as she could be. She loved all the activities
from arts and crafts to exercise groups and especially the excellent entertainment. When she was bed-bound the staff continued to sing with her and I have lovely FaceTime videos of her singing in her final days. To me, one of the most impressive things is the staff really get to know the residents and it's the little things that count - what they enjoyed and what they didn't like to do, always smiling and laughing with her or reassuring if Mum was distressed. The management team are supportive to the staff, residents and relatives and any issue no matter how big or small can be discussed. It was indeed my mum's home and I felt like part of the family too.

My mother went into the home in June 2013 and recently died in December 2020. We are confident Mum was in the best place possible. Her room was bright, well decorated and overlooked a well maintained sheltered garden. We were made very welcome by staff and could visit when we wanted. My mother's wishes
were always taken into account and she was given the option of joining in activities, outings or not as she wished or felt able. Staff were caring and treated her with dignity. and often genuine affection. If any issues arose we were able to bring them up with staff or management and they would be looked into and resolved. Several times a year there was a relative and residents meeting and we would be updated on plans and changes and could raise any issues.
This review is based on our experience up to March 2020 before lockdown.

My mum spent her final 18 months at Cedars and they made her life so much more fulfilled than it had been for some years due to her progressive condition. Mum was cared for wonderfully well, with respect for her individual needs and preferences, including how her room was arranged. The exceptional provision
of activities, outings, and events gave her such happiness and pleasure. The premises and facilities are lovely, homely, and well looked after. Any difficulties are dealt with efficiently but with kind consideration. The staff are professional but friendly, kind, thoughtful, and truly caring people. We are very grateful to all at Cedars for everything they did for our Mum, and us as a family. Cedars epitomises what true care is.

Victor Zingoni joined Canford Healthcare as deputy manager in December 2013, having spent the previous eight years managing another care home. Victor says, “We see ourselves as our residents’ extended family. They place their lives in our hands, trusting us to deliver the best possible care. For this, to work it’s vital that we have open, honest and compassionate dialogue with both residents and their families."
