Cedars Care Home provides first-class care in picturesque Southend-on-Sea.

CQC has rated the home as 'good' overall and 'outstanding' in the 'responsive' category, reflecting a flexible approach to residents’ individual choice and continuity of care (June 2019).

This modern, purpose-built home offers exceptional long-term and respite care for the elderly, and those living with dementia-related conditions. Cedars prides itself on ensuring the best possible quality of life for residents, providing professional care delivered with empathy, compassion and a focus on dignity.

Cedars has been recognised for the quality of its palliative and end of life care, regularly receiving accolades from the Palliative Care Awards and the Great British Care Awards.

It has recently been re-accredited as part of the Gold Standards Framework, also receiving the GSF Quality Hallmark Award (October 2024).

There is accommodation for 48 residents over three floors in bright, spacious, comfortable and well-furnished rooms, each with a pleasant aspect and ensuite or wet room facilities. The home has a lovely light and airy feel, with homely communal areas, lounges and dining rooms on each floor, and a wheelchair-accessible garden.   The communal areas are designed to provide relaxed spaces to socialise or participate in daily activities. There is also a hairdressing salon.

The home also encourages residents to personalise their rooms with favourite pictures and photographs, ornaments and small items of furniture.

There is lift access to all floors, and all areas are wheelchair accessible. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the home and all rooms are equipped with TV, a nurse call system and an adjustable automatic bed.

From the first assessment of my brother-in-law, both management and staff were very professional in their overall acceptance of him. He was very happy in the home joined in the activities and really enjoyed quiz days. When we took him out for appointments he always wanted to return in time for meals
as he really enjoyed the food. We never believed his time at the care home would be short as he passed away on New Year's Eve, aged only 64.

This home is beyond excellent. The cleanliness, rooms, security, atmosphere and all the staff make this a happy place to be.
Mum and Dad moved in in February 2015, we were impressed by the fact that there was no smell of urine(!) and the security of entry to the building and floors is very reassuring
to know that your loved ones are safe.
Mum passed away last year, leaving Dad with his dementia in the care of all at the home AND what a job they did!
Dad enjoyed a happy, fulfilled time, everyone helped to make his world a better place for him.
He slowly deteriorated, leaving his mobility and awareness less and less each time but his care never changed, always 100%.
Dad passed away in October this year, his passing was made such a beautiful thing (does that sound wrong)? The staff made it so special for us as we are sure Dad was totally at peace at the end.
We can not thank everyone enough for all they did and for caring enough to make his last hours so, yes, so beautiful.

My husband came into The Cedars whilst I went on holiday, he came into the Cedars for the same reason earlier this year. I found the new manager helpful, caring and efficient. The staff on my husband's floor were also very kind, caring and efficient. His room was kept clean as was his toilet. Visitors
who came to visit my husband whilst he was a resident were also happy with how he was cared for and the general atmosphere of The Cedars. I am grateful to everyone at The Cedars for looking after my husband.

My father spent last week in Cedars Care Home. He was very apprehensive about going in. Upon entering Cedars the warm welcome, friendly professional staff and cleanliness of the home were instantly noticeable.
His time spent at Cedars Care Home was a truly enjoyable experience. The staff were all
exceptional, always helpful, always happy and nothing was ever too much trouble.

My mum was in this home for roughly three years. The care she received was excellent. The staff always took the time to show her affection, talk to her, reassure her, and laugh with her. The home itself is spotless, the environment warm and friendly. I cannot express how good this home is. Thank you

Cedars is more like a 4 star hotel than a care home, the food , rooms and communal spaces are first rate.
But, more importantly, the staff are amazing. They work long and hard hours, often in difficult and sad situations. But they are always cheerful, caring and helpful. They have time for everyone
- residents and visitors.
The activities and special events are excellent and well organised. Trips out in the minibus are enjoyed by all.
Attention to medical care and special needs is excellent, as is communication between the care staff and residents, their relatives and external medical persons.


(The only negative point is the car park, which is often full, and there is no on-street parking nearby as it is for business and resident permit holders only.)

The care my husband is receiving cannot be faulted. The staff are excellent in all aspects of their work. The whole atmosphere of Cedars is a friendly one, staff and residents alike. I have no doubt whatsoever to highly recommend this care home.

I spent 2 weeks in Southend hospital following a bowel operation and went to Cedars for 2 weeks after, for tender loving care. I received 2 weeks of TLC at Cedars, the manager gave me a lovely room with an en suite overlooking the garden. Staff were excellent as was the food. I sat in the garden quite
a lot as the weather was good and it was very pretty.

My husband and I looked at many recommended care homes in the area and this care home Cedars care home, was the only one that did not smell of urine. The staff are all welcoming and pleasant at all times and my father-in-law has been extremely well looked after and very happy to be there on the two
occasions he has stayed there. We will not hesitate to use this care home for our father again as this is exactly what he received, the very best of care in our opinion.
