Purpose-built in 2012, Sheridan House offers all of the state-of-the-art facilities residents would expect and much more. The home is situated in the quiet and picturesque 'Avenues' area of Exmouth within only a short walk to local shops and amenities.

Sheridan House also offers respite care; this can be a period of anything from a few days to a few weeks. This service is ideal for both the carer and the cared for, allowing carers to take a break knowing that their loved ones are being looked after in the best possible environment.

All rooms are stylishly decorated, with en-suite facilities and wonderful engaging views. The rest of the home offers some wonderful spaces, all stylishly decorated.

The grounds at Sheridan House houses a large garden with plenty of seating areas overlooking the picturesque scenery, allotments, raised flower beds, all designed to give wheelchair users easy access. The home enjoys the best of both worlds – it looks out on to the beautiful seascape and has all the charm Exmouth has to offer on its doorstep.

There are lounge areas which are perfect for residents to socialise in. While families and friends are also encouraged to spend as much time as they wish at home.

In fact, the home recommends residents invite their family and friends along to join them for lunch or dinner, freshly prepared by the in house chef. Families are also invited to the many parties and events hosted throughout the year.

My father was understandably reluctant to leave his home and go into care. Last December (2017) he had a fall and ended up in the hospital via A&E.

Sheridan is part of a group of 3 homes. Thanks to the flexibility of the proprietor we were able to secure a room for dad in another of their premises

on discharge.

The care he received was excellent and the quality of the people exceptional. Then dad moved to Sheridan, to a room with a street view and now to one sea facing. He is now settled surrounded by mementoes and pictures of his extensive travels with his own chair and terrific view along the coast.

The room and bathroom are excellent. The care he receives is to the same excellent standard as the previous home, showing a consistent ethos across the group. The workers are personable, nothing is too much trouble. Food is very good and visitors welcomed.

When we went on holiday, I was not worried, as dad is being very well cared for. I can't recommend Sheridan highly enough.

At the age of 100, my father made the reluctant move to Sheridan House. It has proved to be an excellent decision, as he settled in immediately thanks to the care and attention of the wonderful staff. The Home enables him to continue with his own lifestyle programme meeting all his wants and needs,
including the little comforts such as cheese and biscuits with his nighttime whisky.
Moreover, they are willing to ‘go the extra mile’. For example, when his wife’s Nursing Home insisted that he be accompanied on all visits, Sheridan ensured that a carer would accompany him at all times.
The family are delighted with the care and attention he is given and no longer worry about him. My father is far more relaxed these days and agrees that he is extremely comfortable often forgetting it is not his own home!

Mum initially had 2 weeks respite care at Sheridan House but she found it so comfortable she is still there more than 4 years later. She loves looking out at the sea from her spacious room where she is able to have her personal belongings as well as Sheridan's comfortable, modern furniture. The food
is good and there is a varied choice. Mum goes to the dining room each day for lunch but has breakfast and supper on a tray in her room. The carers are cheerful and very willing to help according to mum's needs which have increased during the past 4 years. There is something to suit everyone in the choice of activities, mum particularly enjoys the whist, knit and natter, flower arranging and visiting speakers. Visitors are always made welcome and Sheridan House has kept me informed about mum's wellbeing.

Both my daughters worked at Sheridan before studying to become nurses - so, in many ways, we were lucky as we had a recommendation from "inside". Mum came initially for respite care following a fall and was adamant that she wasn't going to stay long. Three years later and she is still there, and happy
as a sandboy. Initially, I was watching for shortfalls like a hawk (as you do), but I have to say that I find it difficult to find fault with the facilities and care at Sheridan. The staff are very kind and respectful - and invariably cheerful. Mum loves the banter with them. Residents are encouraged to join in activities which are a mixture of regular slots (whist, pilates, knit and natter, word games etc) and one-off treats (eg trips out, talks, visiting musicians). Mum has even learnt some new skills! Very good chef, too. The spread at the Christmas party is legendary. All in all, first class. I would be more than happy to live out my own "twilight" days at Sheridan.

Thank you, Jane, for your very kind words of recommendation. Your girls were equally excellent care staff during their time with us. It's lovely seeing them now when visiting their gran, fully qualified nurses.

Mum has been living at Sheridan for over a year now – we talk about her luxury serviced flat! For all concerned moving to somewhere like Sheridan is never going to be an easy choice but both of us could not be happier. Mum spent a couple of weeks at Sheridan after a stay in hospital and was looked
after wonderfully well, so when she could no longer stay in her own home Sheridan was the number one choice. The ‘girls’ are brilliant – nothing is too much trouble and they really do know their residents well and allow them to remain as independent as possible. On few occasions when I have been worried that mum hasn’t been quite right and talked directly to the carers, or phoned, they already knew and were keeping an eye. The carers are kind and always make time to talk, and I am very happy that the care received is second to none. Mum and I can come and go whenever we like and friends and family can visit at any time.
We are always made welcome, tea and coffee is always offered (but equally we can just go and make our own in the lounge) and we have stayed for lunch and tea and even had Christmas lunch with Mum. There is a good range of activities planned each week and it is totally up to the individual resident if they take part or not. The rooms are very large and mum has a number of her own possessions as well as quality furniture and furnishings provided by Sheridan. The laundry is fantastic and clothes are washed and returned the same day. The food is well prepared and if there is nothing on the menu that mum fancies the staff do their very best to accommodate any requests. The night staff are super too – just a press of a button away. There is always a very thorough staff hand over when shifts change so all staff know what is going on. The managers are very approachable and always happy to listen and really care about the residents. It is a super place and I doubt you would find better care anywhere.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.675)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.675) out of 10 for Sheridan House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.875 for Sheridan House is calculated as follows: ( (86 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.875

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Sheridan House is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
