St Catherines View is a unique dementia care home, having been specially designed to suit the care needs of residents with conditions like Alzheimer's disease.

Residents enjoy companionship and can join in with singing, music, exercise and arts and crafts sessions. There is the opportunity for gentle gardening activities in the summer sunshine, and there is a busy pen pal scheme.
The home is registered for nursing care and staffed by dedicated nurses and health care professionals with extensive experience in caring for age-related conditions and fully trained in infection control.

The home's interior is made up of five small house groups that allow specialist nurses to achieve high standards of dementia care, through personalised packages and in surroundings that are beneficial to those living with memory loss.

Having learned that my husband required 24 hours of supervision following his stroke, I visited all the local care homes which are registered to care for people with dementia. For me, there was only one which met the criteria I had set, and St Catherines was better than any of the others. The professionalism
of all the staff, from management to all the care and support staff is exemplary. My husband has been treated with dignity, and nothing is too much for them in supporting him and myself. It's been a difficult journey for us both but made easier by the knowledge that the care provided at St Catherines is of such high quality.

For 10-years, St Catherines View provided a supportive, caring and thoughtful environment for my mother. The level of care is extraordinarily good, no matter when we dropped in unannounced. The atmosphere was always happy and caring. The support given to my mother and the family was outstanding.

Mum suffers from Vascular Dementia. Normally, she lives with us, however, we use St Catherines for respite care 2/3 times a year. For Mum, it is home from home, she absolutely loves it there. She has just got back from a 2-week stay and is still talking about it. The staff are friendly and welcoming
and have always got time for the residents. Mum had a lovely room with a really nice view, (the rooms are modern and clean with an ensuite wet-room and most have wonderful views of the garden or Winchester). She was free to come and go between her room and the day room, and she says the food was very good. There was plenty to do, and she especially liked her trip out. St Catherines has also got a very good hairdresser, all part of the 'offer'. When we collected Mum, she had had her hair set and a blonde rinse, she bounced back into our lives, and although she is 91, she looked a whole lot younger. Her stay was like a holiday for her. We are very happy to recommend St Catherines.

Dad has now been at the home for almost seven years. Throughout this time, the care has been excellent. The staff always caring, attentive and well trained. Overall, the facilities have always been clean, and Dad's room was decorated a year ago, being in need of a spruce up. We find the medical care
and information passed to the family have always been good, been through the pandemic. I would be very happy to recommend St Catherines.

My father moved into St Catherines View about four months ago after his previous residential care home became unable to manage the problems associated with his dementia. These problems included increased emotional anger in response to social frustration and increased levels of confusion. The care that
he has received at St Catherines has been excellent. All those involved have been compassionate and clear when he needs to be directed or when he is in need of reassurance. We really appreciate the clear information which we have been given about his care and the development of his illness, which helps us to understand what we need to do to help him. The option to visit as frequently as we wish (and I see my father often) is wonderful. Many thanks to all involved.

Right from the first moment, Mum came to the home our experience was a pleasant one. We were all made to feel welcome. Mums care is fantastic, so caring, and patient. All staff are so good at what they do. Very professional and they certainly know the resident's individual needs.
Mum has been a resident
for 4 weeks and I am absolutely 100% happy she is here, I can tell she is happy too. I would not want Mum to be anywhere else. This is one of the best homes I’ve been in and would recommend it to anyone looking for a place for their love one to stay in. It’s a home from home.

My grandmother has now been a resident for two years, so I have got to know the home well and am extremely happy with every aspect of my grandmother's care. I find the home to be very well managed, the manager and clinical lead are approachable and always make themselves available. The reception team
are welcoming and efficient. The nursing and care team are extraordinary, I have witnessed the difference they make to my grandmother's wellbeing with their kindness, genuine affection and their professional approach to the task of caring. Nothing is ever too much trouble. The level of communication I receive from the nurses is excellent. The companionship team make every day special for their residents. The food is of high quality, tasty and attractively presented. The home and bedrooms are clean and fresh, the laundry staff take great care over clothes. The gardens are beautifully tended and easy to access. I highly recommend this specialist dementia care provider.

My husband entered St Catherines View during the lockdown and had to do two weeks in isolation - not ideal. But the cares and all staff helped to make the experience a good one. Since then, he has settled well into a compassionate and caring home, where he has been made welcome and comfortable. Communication
between carers and families is excellent.

This has undoubtedly been a difficult year for both residents and staff in residential care.


The staff at St Catherines View have sought to make life as rich as possible for their residents and have done an excellent job.


They are unfailingly caring and tailor their care to each individual resident

as far as they are allowed to with COVID-19 restrictions.


As hard as it is to have my husband in residential care, I am in no doubt that this is the best place he could be.


Thank you to all at St Catherine's View and the group, who have kept up useful communication about changing protocols.

My mum recently stayed at St Catherine's for what was supposed to be a week's respite while her live-in carer was on a break. We had to bring her home after two days as she was so unhappy. Everything we were told would happen did not and the care plan was not followed. She had no company, no-one played
games with her, and she was not allowed to go into the garden despite repeated assurances prior to her stay that she would be. In her words, she had a "nasty time". It was a big decision to bring mum to St Catherine's and we only did so following a lot of reassurance. Had we known what it would actually be like versus what we were promised, we would never have done it. It makes no sense not to tell people the truth. Another care home told us they were not the right place for mum and I wish St Catherine's had been more courageous and told us this too.

The free trial at the home was arranged with a view to helping the family identify an appropriate home for regular respite stays to allow your mother's live-in carer to take a break; I am sorry that we were not able to be part of this support plan longer term.
I believe the home did provide a comprehensive level of care. In our correspondence with you, we have outlined the companionship and 121 support provided to your mother during her 48-hour stay at the home and conveyed the challenges surrounding the isolation period and access to the gardens within the home. Additionally, we have shared the changes to visiting and isolation that have been implemented following the update to the government guidance.

My mother moved from a previous care home to St Catherines View in July 2017, so she has been living there for nearly four years. My daughter and I live in Brighton, and with I alone or the two of us, visited her once a month until March 2020 when Covid-19 hit. We have only now been able to visit her,
as we don't drive, and we also had to be ultra-careful because my daughter-in-law was shielding. In that lockdown period, I rang or emailed St Catherines View regularly, and we made little films that we sent to the team for playing to my mother. The staff have been outstanding.

My mum took up residence at the care home a few weeks before lockdown. It has been extremely hard over the last 6 months not being able to visit her as would normally be expected. But I fully backed the decision to lockdown early, and that was a wise decision, together with the restrictions on keeping
staff from moving between care homes. Relatives were regularly updated via newsletters, emails, phone calls, video calls throughout. The staff were wonderful. Professional, and extremely caring. Nothing was too much trouble. She had the best care, companionship, friendship she could have had in her time at the care home. Nearing the end, all the staff were amazing, particularly the nursing staff who were constantly monitoring to keep her comfortable.
No words can really express how much I can thank them for their dedication and superhuman hard work during these past 6 months.

The staff are well trained, friendly, caring and understand dementia. The home is managed within strict guidelines and there are regular reviews with the family.
The building and gardens are well designed providing good surveillance and security which is essential for dementia care but still feeling
homely.
Food and drinks appear appetizing and is always available.
Personal care is a sensitive issue and in our experience, my mother's personal care was only carried out by a few familiar faces.
My mother's appearance was important to her. This was understood by her carers and she was always smartly dressed and her hair kept neat and tidy by the visiting hairdresser.
The policy of grouping residents in small groups with their own lounge and staff gives familiarisation and comfort for residents.
My mother's dementia could not be cured, but the staff at St Catherines View managed my mother's condition and gave her the best quality of life in her final years.

My mother in law moved into St Catherines last year. We have been very happy with her care. The staff have been extremely welcoming to all our family when we visit and which helped the difficult transition from living at home to living in a care home.
The care staff have a warm and comforting approach
with my mother in law and she clearly seems settled and happy at St Catherines.
There is strong leadership from the clinical lead which has meant that any questions have been actioned quickly.

We had been through a very traumatic time finding the right home for our mum. A home that could cope with her needs. It was evident from the day our mum arrived at St Catherines View that she was going to get the care she needed. The staff are so passionate, caring and patient with the residents and
with us as the family, we became very close to some of the carers during mum's year with St Catherines View.
