Manton Heights Care Home is nestled in a popular residential area of Bedford.

The home is purpose-built and offers bespoke, person-centred care for individuals with Residential Dementia needs
Manton Heights is centrally located with easy access to a wide number of recreational facilities and amenities, including a good range of shops, cafes, and restaurants, all of which are within a 5-mile radius.

Auntie attended the care centre for respite after a fall resulted in a broken collar bone. During her 2 weeks stay, Aunite was well looked after and enjoyed chatting to staff.
We appreciate staff are extremely busy but an hour induction would have been helpful as we didn't really know what to expect.

big thank you to one member of staff for making my auntie laugh, the best medicine.

My father spent 14 days in isolation following his discharge from a COVID ward whilst in hospital. He was very well looked after. Now he can move about the facility without restriction, he is enjoying the food and dining with others.

After a sudden change in her circumstances, my mother spent some time in the ABI unit at Manton, and benefited from the care and therapy they provided. While Covid has made access for relatives difficult at times I was very satisfied with the communication I received from the unit - quick responses
in 'office hours' and on the one occasion required, a phone call out of hours. The unit is on a homely scale and my mother had a large, self-contained room with a view over the countryside.


The care and dedication I could see the team gave to her was massively reassuring to me at such a difficult time, most importantly she was treated with full dignity and compassion throughout. My mother has clearly benefited from the work the team at Manton did with her, smoothing her ongoing care journey. On my visits, she had nothing but praise for the staff who looked after her and the same goes for myself.

My father came into Manton Heights on 1st December 2021. My sister and I have seen a remarkable change in Dad. He chats much more and has banter with the staff, something we have not really seen before. He loves the food! He looks healthier and has made friends with who he spends mealtimes with. Staff
are all lovely and accommodate phone and video calls when we can't visit. Very clean, pleasant surroundings.

The care received for my nan is unbelievably amazing. She came here for end of life, if she was well enough and we had to pick a home this would be at the top of the list. The carers at Manton Heights go above and beyond for every single family member that have been constantly checking Nan and family
are OK and to see if we need anything food or drinks.

I have been pleased with the care my relative has received whilst at Manton Heights ABI unit, particularly during the tricky time of managing the COVID 19 pandemic.


I would make 2 observations that could be improved:


1. There is no way of ringing the unit outside week day office hours and this

is a problem (particularly relating to point 2)
2. My relative was taken to the local A&E on 2 occasions and I was not told. On the first occasion I had a phone call from the A&E department direct asking me to come and pick him up and take him home! I was then unable to reach ABI and confirm the details of his discharge and was only able to get to the bottom of it all by pulling rank with A&E (I am an NHS consultant) and getting to speak to their doctor. I would suggest that next of kin is informed about going to A&E as a routine, partly as movement to A&E identifies a deterioration in medical condition.

When someone is admitted to hospital we do always try to notify next of kin and our paperwork is sent with the patient, therefore unsure why they called you and not us as that is usually the case. Our mum was sent for an assessment from hospital. It was out of our area. Mum went downhill so quickly here, mainly due to lack of staff I think. We were only able to visit once then it had a sickness bug so we never saw Mum for 9 days. The shock we got was so distressing. Dementia was to blame for
Mum's death but had she been nearer, we could have visited every day.

I spent 4 weeks at the centre. I found the staff and management very helpful. I was treated with dignity and also as an individual. The food was excellent and the facilities and room was generally very good. I progressed quickly on my individual care plan and I am grateful for all support given.

The last few times I have visited, I have been very pleasantly impressed by the positivity and care taken by a particular member of staff towards my relative. She is thoughtful, kind and has got to know my relative, which has caused such happiness. The activities recently involving a local school choir
was such a big hit, and the presence of Bella the Labrador brings joy and excitement.

I was transferred to ABI on discharge from hospital for stroke rehabilitation. The modern premises are kept spotlessly clean by the housekeeping staff. Individual en-suite rooms make ablutions much easier. Care team not only look after daily needs very well but will always find time to meet individual
physical or social/emotional needs. The centre has a very experienced physiotherapy team who do a great job taking clients through a phased recovery. Psychotherapy sessions are available to help with the mental and emotional effects of a stroke. For those whose speech was affected, there are also speech therapists. There is a screened garden and activities are available as clients progress. Meals are good quality, generous and tasty. Squash and beverages are always available. Although there are some restrictions due to Covid, family and friends are permitted to visit in adjacent accommodation or "window" visits. All staff wear PPE at appropriate times.

My sister was admitted to the ABI following a stroke which had left her critically ill and very limited use of her right side and had affected her speech and memory. From the outset, a pathway for recovery was clear with all ABI staff providing knowledgeable care at an extremely high standard - the
emphasis was always on supporting my sister to regain movement and to promote her independence. Staff were all very friendly and always on had to support and advise us as a family as we also supported her, helping with advice and information. ABI has maintained to a very high standard of hygiene and cleanliness; the meals were excellent, and the facilities for both physical and cognitive rehab were appropriate for supporting a range of needs. My sister remained at the ABI for around two months, and I am certain that she wouldn't receive the intensive input that she had there. We will always be grateful for the care, kindness and professional support that she received there. Thank you.

Excellent care for my grannie. In difficult covid circumstances, she received loving support from staff and end of life care. There was one member of staff, however, who was unpleasant to my grandmother but it was dealt with, and the staff moved to another area.

Sian Hughes, Lifestyle Lead at Manton Heights Care Centre, is dedicated to creating meaningful and engaging experiences for residents.
With seven years in care, she started as a Community Support Worker before progressing to senior roles.
Sian joined the Manton Heights family as a Senior Rehab Assistant at the ABI Unit nearly three years ago. In February 2024, Sian moved to the role as Lifestyle Lead for Manton Heights Care Centre.
She completed her D.O.V.E.S dementia training in June 2024, further enhancing her skills.
Sian loves her role, leading a supportive team to bring joy to residents’ daily lives. She values the strong family atmosphere at Manton Heights, where staff, residents, and families support one another.
