We looked around for respite for our mother.
The staff who greeted us were very friendly and welcoming.
Once we were in the home it had a lovely atmosphere with the staff busy but had time to say hello.
We were offered drinks and were able to sit and discuss Mum's needs with the lady who showed us
around.
There were small children in the lounge with the residents, this looked like so much fun and brought a smile to my face as I saw this.
Lunchtime must have been near as there was a lovely armour of food through the home.
Nothing was too much trouble.
The rooms we were shown were lovely, Mother would love to of had a room with the patio doors leading into the courtyard.
Unfortunately, my mother took a turn for the worse and ended up in hospital.
She sadly passed away before being able to live at the home.
We would and have recommended Magdalen House to our friends who have been in the same situation.
Keep up the good work, there a few and far between homes like this out there.

Overall experience resoundingly positive. Staff lovely and very attentive to needs of residents, treating them with dignity and respect. Organised activities very good, in particular 'alpaca day' was quite extraordinary! For me it was quite emotional to see the positive effect that this had on many
of the residents, in particular my own mother. When Mother's health took a turn for the worse, the immediate response was admirable. A few minor shortcomings, but when brought to attention of management these were effectively dealt with. Big thank you.

Mum came to live at Magdalen House Care Home in January. I cared for her at home and was extremely anxious about leaving her with anyone. I am so happy to say that she has settled in very quickly and is extremely well looked after in every way. I am totally reassured that she is absolutely fine here.
All of the staff are exemplary and I couldn't wish for more.

My mum has been a resident for almost a year now and I'm happy with the care she receives. Nothing is too much trouble and they really seem to think a lot of her. Her words are 'the food is nice and the staff are lovely'.

Mum is enjoying taking part in the activities run by the home, particularly the quiz.
It would be nice to return back to residents' rooms, as COVID restrictions in the outside world are out of sync with the restrictions here.

Reply from Helen Jones, CEO at Magdalen House Care Home

Hello
Thank you for your review. I am delighted to hear your mother is enjoying taking part in the activities. With reference to our Covid restrictions, we are being extremely conservative in our approach in order to do all we can to keep everyone safe. We monitor infection rates, health requirements and government recommendations on a daily basis. We are very aware that our industry is more conservative compared with elsewhere and that raises frustrations for us all. My very best wishes to your family, Helen

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.897)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.897) out of 10 for Magdalen House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.731 for Magdalen House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (50 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 67 Ratings = 4.731

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.166 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Magdalen House Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 53 registered maximum number of service users is 10.6. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.6 = 0.566

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
