Staff are always polite and helpful and coped well during COVID times.
Mother-in-law is well looked after and there are plenty of activities if she chooses to get involved.

Our experience on Saturday 6th August 2022 was extremely positive. We were met by a very kind and helpful member of staff. She settled us into the Day Care Centre and went to collect my mum from the Dementia Floor. She returned with my mum and her interaction with my mum was incredibly caring. Once
our visit had come to an end, this lady returned to take my mum back to the Dementia Floor. She then returned to see us out of the building. There appears to have been and continues to be some great improvements taking place since the recent change in Management. This home just goes from strength to strength. Their dedication to their residents is second to none and I couldn't recommend this home more highly.

We are very pleased with the care Mum is given at Megdalen House. Mum is so happy and relaxed and enjoys all the many activities which are organised daily. The staff are all very kind and nothing is too much trouble. We would highly recommend Magdalen House.

Found the entertainment staff very helpful, friendly and supportive.
Nan seems very happy and content with the help given. The outside area was very nice for her to spend time with the other residents.

We were impressed with Magdalen House from the outset when our lovely mum (suffering from dementia) attended the day centre. The deputy manager was a great help and support when Mum became a resident, and we were very happy with the care and consideration she received.
During the pre-Covid period,
when visiting was freely allowed, we were always made to feel welcome and were very impressed with the standard of care. It was heartbreaking not to be able to visit, but at least we felt assured of the standard of Mum's care. The rigid visiting rules (in excess of those set by the Government) made visiting difficult and sad for us. All the care staff, cleaners and the receptionist have been absolutely excellent.
During the last week of her life, when our mum was bedridden and virtually unconscious, the care staff and activities coordinators gave her the most wonderful care, ensuring her cleanliness, comfort and dignity throughout. We really appreciate their dedication and attitude and would happily recommend Magdalen House to anyone looking for a care home.

Hello, thank you for your comprehensive review of our service. I am so very sorry for the sad loss of your Mum. My condolences to you and your family. When you're caring for someone at home with dementia, the challenge is relentless. We are absolutely delighted to have our day centre to provide respite for the home carer and a change of scene for the person with dementia as well. Then, if it's helpful, having the care recipient move in with us is all about providing continuity of care for both the carer and the Resident. And for us, it's wonderful as we become so fond of our daycare guests and residents, we feel that we're really supporting the family together. All our very best wishes go to you and your family, thank you.

When our mum was placed in their care we can only praise their support and professionalism caring for Mum with dementia. Nothing seemed too much trouble, were always kept informed. Sadly, when Mum passed away they supported us and showed great compassion. We highly recommend this care home.

Since my earlier review, our experience has changed. My mother was unhappy being housed in the upstairs dementia unit as, despite memory problems, she is very 'with it' and found it lonely and oppressive and was unable to visit the garden regularly. She also broke her hip and was in pain for two days
before it was realised that this was the case. Since moving to another local home, she is a different person; we wish we had taken that step earlier.
Many of the care staff are very caring and my mother formed good relationships with them.

My stay at Magdalen House was for one week only while my carer was on holiday.
I was treated kindly, thoughtfully and with skill and friendliness.
My room was very pleasant and cleaned regularly and thoroughly.
I have many happy memories of the staff and would certainly be quite happy to stay there
again.

My friend has been a resident of Magdalen House Care Home since it opened in 2012. Despite having a few managerial problems in changes, the level of care has been maintained to a high standard.
In general, all residents appear happy and enjoy the experience as best they can. Staff are always obliging
and on top of things.

My sister and brother in law moved into Magdalen House Care Home in January. The move was well organised and both new residents settled very quickly. My brother in law required 24-hour care and this was provided with professionalism accompanied by good humour whilst maintaining dignity. The staff have
met some challenging situations very calmly and have the residents interests at the heart of their care. The family is content that the residents of their family are very well cared for.

First class care home and excellent staff. They could not have done more for our Mother whilst in their care. Always friendly towards us when we were visiting. They always made time for all the residents and showed compassion and respect to all. We can only give the highest praise to this residential
care home. We are truely grateful for everything that you did to care for our Mother.

When choosing a care home for our mother, although the building and facilities were new and had everything anyone could ask for and more, it was the staff who stood out. They welcomed mum and her family even though we just called in with no appointment. The care mum is given is second to none. We feel
so blessed to have our mum looked after so well. Thank you, Magdalen House staff.

I have been with my husband in this home for more than three years, during which time we have had kind and helpful carers, especially when there has been a shortage of staff.
All staff support each other well. This home is conveniently situated for shops, post box, library and doctors surgery. District
nurses attend regularly. There is a large private paved area for residents to sit out in the sun.

My husband was admitted to Magdalen House on 2/1/17, the lead up to which was very worrying. However, the courteousness and efficiency of the staff was very reassuring and my husband has settled into this new situation extremely well. I am confident that he is well cared for and feel that the right
choice was made.

My mother has been at this home since it opened. It has seen several changes of manager and ownership. On entering the home I was assured and had it in writing that when mums money ran out we would not be liable for "topping up" social service rates. When the latest people took over and when mum's
money ran down to government minimum they asked us as family to "top up" her weekly/monthly money and they stated they had no record of a written letter. Fortunately, I did! We do not have to top up. Overall care has improved, carers seem "kinder" to my mum and more tolerant of her needs.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.897)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.897) out of 10 for Magdalen House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.731 for Magdalen House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (50 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 67 Ratings = 4.731

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.166 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Magdalen House Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 53 registered maximum number of service users is 10.6. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.6 = 0.566

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
