Welcome to St Georges Nursing Home where the team offers a unique household model of care. At St Georges, you will find luxurious lounges and dining areas, attractive bedrooms all with en-suite shower rooms as well as a hairdressing salon and its own café.

Residents live in households with domestic kitchens and sitting rooms, where families feel really at home, and everyone sits around the kitchen table. It's the opposite of living with lots of people you don't know! Residents live with people who become friends and are cared for by staff who are recruited and appointed to each specific household. As a result, residents and teams form supportive relationships, and each household works to its own rhythm. The home also has an Activities Coordinator who works with the residents to ensure a varied programme of events and activities as well as enabling residents to continue with their hobbies.

Each resident's room has its own en-suite wet room and residents are encouraged to personalise the room to their tastes. The team's vision is for St Georges Nursing Home to become each resident's home away from home. Every resident and every wonderful staff member make this vision a reality.

My mum was admitted to the care home on the 10th of May as she is at end-of-life care. She was very anxious and scared about going. On arrival, all the staff made us feel very welcome and at ease. One gentleman at the care home was brilliant and calmed Mum down. All the staff are amazing and very helpful,
kind and very considerate. Nothing has been too much trouble. She has been much better in herself since being there, and it is nice that, as a family, we can enjoy some family-quality time with her. Thanks to all the staff for their support in a difficult time.

Dad was transferred to St George’s for a social care assessment following a hospital stay resulting in a change in his needs. He’d previously been in a residential room in a different care home. My first impressions of St George’s were very good. The building is spacious, airy and clean. I met the liaison
manager on arrival, all the staff were welcoming and friendly. His room is large, well furnished, bright and airy with an en suite shower. As Dad is unable to walk he is transferred daily to the communal lounge area rather than left sitting in his room. This means he is not isolated, feels more engaged and involved in what’s going on and also means staff can keep a close eye on him as he’s at risk of falls. He is encouraged to join in with the many activities available. It is very likely Dad will stay at St George’s following the assessment as I remain very impressed with every aspect. Friendly, caring, knowledgeable staff. Good communication with me about any concerns/issues.

My 85-year-old mum was taken into St George's as an emergency, and on a weekend. So I expected it to be a bit chaotic, but it wasn't. The staff were so warm and welcoming, which reassured my anxious mum; we were treated like family immediately.
Since then, I've witnessed how kind and caring the staff
are. Mum's been given a lot of opportunities to join different leisure activities – and she really enjoys the meals. She loves all the staff.
It's also important to say how much better Mum looks now, physically. We were really struggling with her loss of mobility at home, and she has multiple health problems, all of which are now being managed professionally, kindly and with great humour.
I can't recommend St George's highly enough - in fact, I wish I worked there!

I moved to St Georges one week ago to be near my support worker/next of kin, having been to several care homes previously.
Many care homes offer good physical care and facilities; the difference at St George’s is that along with all the other excellent aspects of care, they truly understand and offer
the concept of ‘kind care’. The staff from domestics to management are gentle, warm, smiley and friendly as well as professional. It is this that makes the difference between living at a care home and finding a true home. I have now found my home. Activities are excellent but not forced on one. Food is second to none.
In short, I would recommend St George’s unreservedly to anyone looking for a home with the best nursing and care.

I approached St Georges to ask about respite/convalescent care for my sister, who had had several falls in the recent past. A gentleman responded immediately, and we chatted about what might be possible. Within a few days, he had been to visit my sister at home, and once I knew she was happy with the
arrangements, she was given a date (last Friday) to arrive at St Georges for her stay of three or so weeks. She was welcomed and shown to her room. Over the weekend, she got used to life at St Georges, which is very relaxed and caring. I heard that yesterday she enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast. In my contact with the same gentleman, he has been responsive, friendly and efficient in answering my questions.

This review relates to how the resident liaison manager helped and supported me in deciding on Mum's move to St Georges, the room and Mum's induction. Nothing was too much trouble for him. He anticipated the information I needed well and answered all of my questions. Anything he didn't know, he sought
answers to and communicated really well throughout, in what were very challenging circumstances for me and Mum as she could not return to her previous residential care home. As I live in Scotland and Mum is in Weston, this help and support were hugely appreciated and led to a smooth move for Mum when she came out of the hospital. I can't thank him enough for all his time, help and support. Mum's arrival at St George's went smoothly. He kept an eye to ensure things went well and were happy to be a point of contact if there were any problems. The care, nursing and domestic teams also did a great job, particularly over the first few days, supporting me in sorting Mum's room and helping Mum settle in.

Following a fall at home at the end of December and then contracting flu whilst, in hospital, Mum was very frail and too unwell to live alone at home, but the hospitals over Christmas were keen to discharge with no care plan offered, just transport arranged home without telling the family.
Panic ensued,
and I rang a number of homes whose managers had taken Christmas off. Not at St Georges though!
St Georges manager and his team moved very swiftly, met with me, and showed me the home and what they could offer. We weren't sure what we needed, and the home has been very accommodating. They went to the hospital in Bristol, assessed Mum, and arranged to have her brought to St Georges. All before several other homes even managed to call me back following my initial enquiries. (They did eventually in the New Year!).
The staff are lovely and friendly and encourage her to join in with activities. She never turns down a chance of a glass of wine!
Mum loves the food, which is excellent.

From the first time that I met with the liaison manager, I felt at ease; he responded to my questions about the home and the vacancy situations for my mother with great knowledge and confidence. I was shown around the home at St Georges and shown a few rooms that were empty at the time, he mentioned
the activities that residents are encouraged to do, and then I was introduced to the chef, whom I found to have a great understanding of the nutrition that older and disabled persons require to help with their health. The chef will cook anything that a resident fancies - nothing was too much trouble. The staff are very nice and polite; they even offer a cup of tea when you are visiting even though they have a lot of work to do - I find that very considerate. The whole atmosphere around the place feels calm, friendly and extremely well-organised. I am very grateful to all concerned for placing my mother at St Georges time has been very difficult over the past 18 months for her.

Very welcoming when my friend, unfortunately, had to go into a care home. We viewed a few different homes, and this one by far seemed very up-to-date and clean, and the staff were more than happy to help in any way they could.

I can't praise St George's Nursing Home highly enough. The staff are doing an amazing job. They are genuinely friendly towards both residents and visitors. We have visited Aunt three times, and each time we have been welcomed. Aunt seems really happy and tells us how well she is being treated and how
good the food is etc. It's always worrying when a relative needs care on a continuing basis - will the care be good? Will my relative be happy? Just a couple of questions that go through your mind. I needn't have worried.

Absolutely outstanding service at St Georges.
One gentleman has gone above and beyond with Mum's care and assisting all of us too with our anxieties.
Every single member of staff we have met has been very attentive, has supported Mum and has offered feedback on Mum's stay at every visit.
The home
is beautiful, extremely clean and in good repair.
Mum has been so very well looked after, and the food has been nutritious and plentiful.
She has been involved in activities every day and has enjoyed every minute!

The staff are always friendly and welcoming. They always seem to be in the right place at the right time when residents need help. The home is laid out in a welcoming way, with kitchens and dining rooms on both floors ready to accept residents and visitors at any time of day for tea and for coffee or
help. They are also happy for you to make tea for yourself and for your resident if you so wish. Nothing is too much trouble for them. They are all kind and very helpful. There is even sun cream in a cupboard near the entrance to the garden, so your loved one doesn't get sunburn. A home of his standards.

My friend was transferred to St Georges on end-of-life care from the hospital. She was extreme;y poorly and later (only a few days after) passed away. I was able to visit her and be with her in her hour of need and was welcomed by all. Nothing was too much trouble for her last comforts, even though
she was never fully conscious. Thank you - I felt fully confident in her care and the kindness shown by all the staff I met.

Several drinking mugs badly tea-stained, evening meal, repetition, exactly the same every day. I can't answer the last question, value for money, as someone else in the family paid.

Simon

Simon Potter

Job Title: Manager

Joined: 2024

Simon brings a lifetime of experience to his role as Registered Manager of St Georges. His interest in social care started at a young age when a good friend’s sister had complex disabilities; seeing the challenges faced by the family it sparked what would become a passion to work in the sector. Starting on the YTS scheme and over 30 years later Simon has worked with learning disabilities, those living with mental health conditions and for the past few years in residential and nursing homes. Progressing quickly to a management position means Simon not only has experience in care but also in managing a number of settings.


Simon feels strongly that life doesn’t stop just because the time has come to move into long-term care, in fact, it is very much the start of a new chapter. Simon is committed to ensuring residents are valued and respected with open lines of communication with all those associated with St Georges.


As a local living nearby Simon is keen to get involved with the community around the home. Outside of work Simon enjoys eating out and walking his cockapoo, Bayley.


Zoe

Zoe Ashton

Job Title: Head of Wellness/Lead Activities Coordinator

Zoe moved into the care sector after many years working as a dental nurse. Driven by a desire to spread happiness and make people smile, her role as Head of Wellness and Lead Activities Co-ordinator for Allegra Care is immensely rewarding as it gives her a unique opportunity to enrich residents’ lives.


As well as informing her working methods, Zoe’s creative and musical interests occupy much of her leisure time. She also enjoys time with her family and long walks in the countryside with their dog.


Richard

Richard Tudor

Job Title: Chef Team Leader

Joined: 2019

Starting his career in rosette restaurants and hotels across the West Country, Richard went on to become a college lecturer in cookery and catering, a position in which he worked with people with complex needs.


Building on this experience, he then ran activities provisions for two autism centres operated by the National Autistic Society, roles which involved extensive cooking and nutrition demonstrations.


Working as Chef Team Leader at St Georges, Richard devises and cooks a variety of nutritious and appetising menus to meet all residents’ dietary needs. This resident-led approach is enhanced by informal feedback and resident meetings, as well as input from staff. Flexibility and adaptability are key to ensuring the provision of alternative options for residents.


Championing fresh, local produce, Richard and his team work closely with local suppliers to source the best quality, traceable ingredients. Enabled by St Georges’ household operational model, with individual kitchens shared by small household groups, Richard also organises and delivers live cooking demonstrations.


Debbie

Debbie

Job Title: Receptionist

Joined: 2017

St Georges’ first point of contact for many, Debbie is most likely the voice you will hear when you phone and the friendly face you will first see when you visit. In her role as Receptionist, Debbie enjoys getting to know all residents, and their families and visiting healthcare professionals.


All visits are booked via Debbie and she will always make sure that anything dropped in for residents is promptly and safely delivered. St Georges’s reception is a busy place but, with Debbie’s calm and proficient organisational skills, everything runs smoothly.


Amanda

Amanda Porcel

Job Title: Regional Manager - Western Region

Joined: 2015

Amanda brings 40 years of working experience in social care to her role as Regional Manager for the Western Region of Allegra Care. Amanda has been a Registered Manager at both Olive Tree House and Rose Garden since they opened over 8 years ago. Very much a people person, she’s dedicated to helping others and passionate about elderly care and the difference it can make to people’s quality of life. From training and mentoring colleagues to building strong working relationships with healthcare professionals in the local community, it’s a positive outlook that also benefits her working relationships.


Catherine

Catherine Crawshaw

Job Title: Regional Resident Liaison Manager – Western Region

Joined: 2024

Catherine has worked in sales and marketing her whole career, after graduating with a degree in Textile Management she worked in Corporate Workwear for many years. Catherine’s first role in the care sector was working with a disability charity that ran nursing homes and enablement projects for young adults. While her two children were younger, she joined her husband in his estate agency, but was delighted to return to the care sector in 2020 and now cannot imagine doing anything else.


Catherine’s role with Allegra is to support residents and their families as they explore care options. Working with the teams in the individual homes she ensures that during every stage from initial enquiry through to moving in with us every question is answered, and we offer the reassurance needed for the next chapter in our resident’s life. It is important for our residents to remain part of the community in which will have lived for years, often all their lives, so the other part of this role is connecting with local community groups, charities and organisations.


Catherine has said that working for Allegra with their groundbreaking household model means we are offering a home with compassion and care whilst ensuring residents are retaining their independence and quality of life.


Out of work, Catherine enjoys baking, gardening and walking the family Labrador. The children are older now, but still keep her busy!
