Welcome to St Georges Nursing Home where the team offers a unique household model of care. At St Georges, you will find luxurious lounges and dining areas, attractive bedrooms all with en-suite shower rooms as well as a hairdressing salon and its own café.

Residents live in households with domestic kitchens and sitting rooms, where families feel really at home, and everyone sits around the kitchen table. It's the opposite of living with lots of people you don't know! Residents live with people who become friends and are cared for by staff who are recruited and appointed to each specific household. As a result, residents and teams form supportive relationships, and each household works to its own rhythm. The home also has an Activities Coordinator who works with the residents to ensure a varied programme of events and activities as well as enabling residents to continue with their hobbies.

Each resident's room has its own en-suite wet room and residents are encouraged to personalise the room to their tastes. The team's vision is for St Georges Nursing Home to become each resident's home away from home. Every resident and every wonderful staff member make this vision a reality.

Care is generally very good, and staff are friendly and helpful. The home is very clean, and food is generally good, but there is a lack of social stimulation and activities for those who are able to take part. During Covid restrictions, the home made visiting as easy and as possible as they were able
to, and if a resident needed to isolate, one essential visitor was allowed.

I commend the care staff for their kindness and consideration towards the residents. They are cheerful, and at the same time, professional. The food is excellent, and the activities are entertaining.
I would definitely book myself in here if I were older.

I can't praise or find words which describe how wonderful the staff and home are in everything. Care of my mum, care of me, dealing with the sad situation. The staff are caring, the ambience of happiness is wonderful as they work together as a team. The food produced was amazing. The laundry service
is superb, as is the cleanliness; it really is a wonderful home, and I feel so fortunate that my mum's last days will be here surrounded by love and attention.
I didn't choose here as Mum was discharged from hospital to here.
I would recommend it to anyone.
If a resident is able to take part, there is plenty for them to do.
Each person is treated with respect, and nothing is ever too much trouble
When I feel low, there is always a kind ear to listen to.
Thank you so much for helping me deal with a very difficult time.

From the outset, my husband was cared for in the most professional, caring and efficient way. All staff were kind, respectful, but friendly both to my husband and myself. Despite Covid restriction, visits were well managed, and staff were sympathetic and helped make them meaningful, allowing time to
discuss his needs and condition to ensure they met his needs as efficiently as possible at all times. I should add, the funeral director handling his funeral commented that this home is one of three of the best.

I have always thought my wife is treated well by everyone. Her dementia means that St Georges is her home environment; all else means nothing anymore. Well done, St Georges!

Carers and nurses were excellent. They have a person-centred approach and wanted to get to know our mother as an individual. Rooms were very pleasant, although they got very warm in hot weather. Only negative was that it was often difficult to get in touch by phone - calls were unanswered, not enough
portable phones, not enough plug points in the room.

My husband has been at St Georges since March 2020; he went in a few days before lockdown, so I didn't know a lot about the care home because it was only supposed to be for respite. Once lockdown started and he couldn't come home, he got steadily worse and now can't do anything for himself. The staff
are wonderful with him, can't praise them enough. The home is lovely and well kept. I don't know about the food or activities.

Mum is at the home for three weeks respite care following a fall at her home and three days in hospital. She has vascular dementia. In less than two weeks, she has gained three lbs. She had a problem with hydration which likely caused her to fall but since being at the home her colour has returned and
she is drinking fluids well. Her ability to communicate is very limited but I have noticed that she is using a few more words.
She seems to enjoy knowing there are people about and listening to their interactions. I think the fact that staff are there during the night makes her feel safer.
It is very likely that Mum will stay at the home. She is very well looked after and we, as a family, feel happier knowing she is safe and being well looked after.
I cannot speak highly enough of the staff who are always so warm and friendly not only to the residents but also us, the visitors.
Food is of a very high standard and seems to be almost constantly available

We both love St George's nursing home, the staff not only make the resident's feel at home but also family and visitors, you are made to feel welcome every visit. The staff are amazing, always helpful and have a smile on their face, nothing is too much trouble. Any concerns are dealt with appropriately
and respectfully. The residents are treated with dignity and respect. I would not want my husband to be anywhere else.

Overall the carers are good, some can be rather abrupt.
Response times are not that good when needing assistance and personal care given by some staff is not that great.
It is a very well thought out building.
It's a shame there are no activities at the weekends.

Simon

Simon Potter

Job Title: Manager

Joined: 2024

Simon brings a lifetime of experience to his role as Registered Manager of St Georges. His interest in social care started at a young age when a good friend’s sister had complex disabilities; seeing the challenges faced by the family it sparked what would become a passion to work in the sector. Starting on the YTS scheme and over 30 years later Simon has worked with learning disabilities, those living with mental health conditions and for the past few years in residential and nursing homes. Progressing quickly to a management position means Simon not only has experience in care but also in managing a number of settings.


Simon feels strongly that life doesn’t stop just because the time has come to move into long-term care, in fact, it is very much the start of a new chapter. Simon is committed to ensuring residents are valued and respected with open lines of communication with all those associated with St Georges.


As a local living nearby Simon is keen to get involved with the community around the home. Outside of work Simon enjoys eating out and walking his cockapoo, Bayley.


Zoe

Zoe Ashton

Job Title: Head of Wellness/Lead Activities Coordinator

Zoe moved into the care sector after many years working as a dental nurse. Driven by a desire to spread happiness and make people smile, her role as Head of Wellness and Lead Activities Co-ordinator for Allegra Care is immensely rewarding as it gives her a unique opportunity to enrich residents’ lives.


As well as informing her working methods, Zoe’s creative and musical interests occupy much of her leisure time. She also enjoys time with her family and long walks in the countryside with their dog.


Richard

Richard Tudor

Job Title: Chef Team Leader

Joined: 2019

Starting his career in rosette restaurants and hotels across the West Country, Richard went on to become a college lecturer in cookery and catering, a position in which he worked with people with complex needs.


Building on this experience, he then ran activities provisions for two autism centres operated by the National Autistic Society, roles which involved extensive cooking and nutrition demonstrations.


Working as Chef Team Leader at St Georges, Richard devises and cooks a variety of nutritious and appetising menus to meet all residents’ dietary needs. This resident-led approach is enhanced by informal feedback and resident meetings, as well as input from staff. Flexibility and adaptability are key to ensuring the provision of alternative options for residents.


Championing fresh, local produce, Richard and his team work closely with local suppliers to source the best quality, traceable ingredients. Enabled by St Georges’ household operational model, with individual kitchens shared by small household groups, Richard also organises and delivers live cooking demonstrations.


Debbie

Debbie

Job Title: Receptionist

Joined: 2017

St Georges’ first point of contact for many, Debbie is most likely the voice you will hear when you phone and the friendly face you will first see when you visit. In her role as Receptionist, Debbie enjoys getting to know all residents, and their families and visiting healthcare professionals.


All visits are booked via Debbie and she will always make sure that anything dropped in for residents is promptly and safely delivered. St Georges’s reception is a busy place but, with Debbie’s calm and proficient organisational skills, everything runs smoothly.


Amanda

Amanda Porcel

Job Title: Regional Manager - Western Region

Joined: 2015

Amanda brings 40 years of working experience in social care to her role as Regional Manager for the Western Region of Allegra Care. Amanda has been a Registered Manager at both Olive Tree House and Rose Garden since they opened over 8 years ago. Very much a people person, she’s dedicated to helping others and passionate about elderly care and the difference it can make to people’s quality of life. From training and mentoring colleagues to building strong working relationships with healthcare professionals in the local community, it’s a positive outlook that also benefits her working relationships.


Catherine

Catherine Crawshaw

Job Title: Regional Resident Liaison Manager – Western Region

Joined: 2024

Catherine has worked in sales and marketing her whole career, after graduating with a degree in Textile Management she worked in Corporate Workwear for many years. Catherine’s first role in the care sector was working with a disability charity that ran nursing homes and enablement projects for young adults. While her two children were younger, she joined her husband in his estate agency, but was delighted to return to the care sector in 2020 and now cannot imagine doing anything else.


Catherine’s role with Allegra is to support residents and their families as they explore care options. Working with the teams in the individual homes she ensures that during every stage from initial enquiry through to moving in with us every question is answered, and we offer the reassurance needed for the next chapter in our resident’s life. It is important for our residents to remain part of the community in which will have lived for years, often all their lives, so the other part of this role is connecting with local community groups, charities and organisations.


Catherine has said that working for Allegra with their groundbreaking household model means we are offering a home with compassion and care whilst ensuring residents are retaining their independence and quality of life.


Out of work, Catherine enjoys baking, gardening and walking the family Labrador. The children are older now, but still keep her busy!
