Everyone was always very kind to me while I was here and looked after me very well. I was sorry to leave but wanted to be in a care home nearer where I used to live.

My mum has been here for over 4 years, the staff have become like family to us. From activities to housekeeping from hospitality to nursing admin. The care and compassion cannot be bettered from all departments. My admiration for them has only grown over the last year of the pandemic when they have
gone above and beyond. Thank you for caring so brilliantly for my mum.

All staff are friendly. Clean environment. Medication given and plenty of food provided. Contact with family encouraged. Allowed to go out for fresh air given the restrictions lifted with regards to covid. Thank you to all the staff for keeping my relative safe and healthy.

My mother has been a resident at Allingham House for 7-years. It has been an interesting journey for her, and us, as a family. Challenges have been many, but all made infinitely more east to cope with because of the due care and attention of the staff at Allingham House. I consider you her family and
friends. The ambience and daily interaction keep Mum thriving. For this, we are truly grateful, thank you.

My mum entered the care home in March. I have found the staff very kind and caring and they have really looked after my mum. The entertainment staff are very friendly and have a full programme of activities every day which my mum really enjoys. I have been able to Skype with my mum regularly during
lockdown and this has really helped to see how Mum is getting on. I have been kept updated about my mum’s condition whenever there have been any problems. I find the staff extremely friendly and helpful.

Overall I am pleased with the care and service given to my brother and in trying to adapt care to his needs. I just wish there was a bit more feedback about him especially as I have not been able to visit and I am always reluctant to phone as I feel I am taking up valuable time of the staff.

Reply from Jackie Hallewell, Marketing Coordinator at Allingham House Care Centre

Our experience has been positive. My mum is quite new to Allingham and it is early days but she looks clean and well cared for. The staff have had to work extra hard during the pandemic but have made us feel welcome and helped us to settle my mum in as much as is possible at present.

The home is much improved since the appointment of the new manager approximately 6 months ago. New permanent staff have been recruited and there are now very few agency staff. The food continues to be of a high standard - always hot with a varied menu. The home is always clean and well presented. Since
the home locked down carers, nurses and activity staff have been outstanding. Every effort has been made to maintain contact between residents and families in these difficult circumstances. The manager and senior staff are approachable and keen to address any issues arising.

Allingham House has had its ups and downs. Head office has had its eye on the downs - and invested time and energy towards the improvement of quantity and quality of care. Unfortunately, during the "down" last year, a large number of really excellent members of staff left.
My father died there two
weeks ago. He had been there three and a half years and seen six managers; only one of whom was really not up to standard.
Dad received the best care Allingham House could give. I have come to see the staff as a family - they care for the residents, have patience and respect for each and every one. Activities staff are creative, kitchen staff and dining staff at such a level that Dad thought he was living in a hotel. The laundry service is highly professional, even though things still get lost. The day and night staff work long shifts, but they still approach the residents with a smile and respect. No words can describe the professionality of the nurses. The home smells of "clean". Good luck to the new manager!

Overall Allingham is improving with more staff around and music activities (which all the residents seem to enjoy the most), becoming more frequent. Mum has had a few unexplained falls, which is concerning and I also find her looking a bit dishevelled as if the first thing found in her wardrobe is what
is put on - not coordinated or thought about.

My Mum, who has vascular dementia, has now been in Allingham House for just over a year, she was extremely anxious when she first arrived and it has taken a great deal of time for Mum to be moved / handled without being frightened and panicking, the credit has to go to the wonderful staff who have got
to know her and handle her anxiety. Mum is now very happy and relaxed in Allingham surrounded by kind staff (permanent and agency) who do genuinely care about her quality of life) I have been extremely impressed with the way Allingham has improved since the previous Manager left, the mood in the home is now calm and professional - the staff are happier and more relaxed whilst doing their jobs, and I believe they are now being lead by a manager who has respect for everyone and genuinely cares. There is an activities team, who are absolutely dedicated to stimulating the residents and breaking the monotony, plus external entertainers who are also excellent.
I wouldn’t want my Mum anywhere else.

All staff are very diligent, compassionate, and always place the needs of residents as the highest priority. My mother was a resident and received palliative care and died in Allingham in 2016, so when my father decided to move into residential care we all only considered Allingham and have not been
disappointed with this decision. My father moved in in Oct 2019 and is currently a resident. I am from a nursing background in elderly medicine for the past 38 years and have visited many residential and nursing homes as a Community Matron. I can honestly say Allingham is outstanding. From a personal perspective as a daughter, I feel that Allingham is outstanding.

I have been visiting Allingham House now for over 3 years, to a lady I cared for when she was at home. I'm there twice a day at different times. I find the care to be good and the staff friendly and kind and most have an understanding of the residents. Like all care homes Allingham has its problems.
One of which is the lack of staff that are covered by agency workers, but, the plus side to this is the agency staff are always the same people which are mainly very good. After the problems of the home's last manager and the bad CQC report also because of the last manager, Allingham had a lot to improve on and I feel the home's acting manager has done this. The home now has a new manager, who I find to be very kind and understanding of the residents and families within Allingham House. The home is starting to feel how it once was - fun, happy and warm and seems to be on the up again, so much so I recommend Allingham to 2 families of ladies that I care for and are now residents at Allingham House.

I am happy with the care my father receives at Allingham House. The majority of staff are very caring and respectful and understand the needs of a person suffering from dementia. His bedroom is cleaned thoroughly as are the community rooms. His clothes are laundered well and he is kept clean and fresh.
The entertainment staff do a great job and are always enthusiastic. The caretaker manageress has worked wonders in the time she has been there.

My Mum spent the last 5 months here. Before that, her severe dementia meant she was agitated and tormented daily, with no personal care, not allowing me or my wife to attend to that. Her move to Allingham House Care Centre was transformational: settled, calm, peaceful, always well-presented, clean and
appropriately dressed. All this was down to the wonderful staff, with some exceptional individuals, always so caring and attentive. The entertainment throughout the week, every week, devised and delivered by an equally wonderful dedicated hospitality team, was also exceptional, in its engagement of residents but also in the lovely, buzzy atmosphere it gives the home. We chose Allingham House Care Centre initially after visiting 20+ other homes. It stood out then, but only as part of a short-list of 2 or 3. After experiencing it at close quarters in my Mum's last 5 months there, we are so thankful we made it our choice. We could not have found a better place for Mum.

I am very happy with the care you provide for my wife, your staff are caring and attentive. Entertainment is good but I do think more singers would help. On the whole, I am very pleased with my wife's care in Allingham House.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.637)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.637) out of 10 for Allingham House Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.214 for Allingham House Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (90 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (17 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (11 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 140 Ratings = 4.214

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.423 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Allingham House Care Centre is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 86 registered maximum number of service users is 17.2. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 17.2 = 0.523

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

Hello, my name is Olubunmi and I am the Home Manager at Allingham House. I am an experienced Registered Nurse. I have been in Health Care for over 19 years. During my career I have worked in a variety of settings, at clinical/ management level, within the private sector and specialises in care of the elderly and dementia care.

I am originally from Nigeria, and I qualified as a Registered Nurse at Middlesex university, London. I enjoy seeing my residents/my team achieve their desired goals and plan as desired. My responsibilities are to ensure that residents’ clinical needs are met, residents are safe, cared for, the team are well lead, responding to residents and their relatives needs are met promptly and I ensure feedback is used effectively to promote the quality of care for residents, their families and members of the public.
