We are very impressed with the current changes taking place at Harper Fields Care Home and the nursing unit in Balsall Common. The nursing unit is being split into two units, enabling the nurses more time with each patient. All the staff are lovely, from the receptionists, carers, nurses and manager;
even the gardeners call in for a quick chat with Dad, which he loves. The care is very good, and Dad loves the food. The entertainment organised for the residents is 1st class too. We couldn’t be happier!

Our dad suffers from dementia and we wanted him to be cared for by people who understand the condition and are responsive to his needs. My sisters and brother have found Barchester Harper Fields Care Home to be just that place. We have worked with staff to discuss his needs and make adjustments to how
we all respond and look after him. The staff have been caring and considerate, not just of Dad but of how they treat the wider family. We have a ‘go to’ member of staff that we discuss any concerns with, and this has helped as Dad’s condition alters. As a family, we have peace of mind that the quality of Dad’s life is the best it can be. We have nothing but praise for the patience and care of the staff at the home.

Another great day at Barchester Harper Fields Care Home with their annual Summer Fete. Congratulations to the manager for flawless organisation. Sadly, the weather chose not to co-operate so the event was held indoors. Plenty of stalls selling clothes, bric-a-brac, drinks - both alcoholic (by donation
only) and non-alcoholic, cakes and some pretty good pulled pork baps whilst a model train stall made me yearn for my old train set. For entertainment, there was a very good country and western band whose repartee included an exceptional rendition of 'duelling banjos' on electric guitar and woodwind instruments. Participation was pleasingly very good from both residents and guest and I believe that everyone enjoyed themselves. I understand a dog show is scheduled towards the end of August so look out for further details and get the doggy shampoo ready.

The warmth of Harper Fields greets you at the door. From the welcoming smile of the receptionist to the carers and nurse's attention to detail, level of respect and obvious dedication to their charges, to the activities coordinators who work tirelessly to ensure there is a varied programme of events
for the residents to enjoy, to the talented chefs who know each guest by name, to the maintenance guys who cheerfully keep the home looking immaculate, to the cleaning and laundry staff who take the time to care and last but not least, the management team that has a “nothing is too much trouble” approach. My friend has been there for two years now and has flourished whilst in the very special atmosphere that is Harper Fields.

After having a very close relationship with my mother I was very upset that after 3 years of living with my family, Mom needed to go into a home. From the very first visit to have a look around I was put at ease. I could not believe how beautiful, welcoming and friendly everyone and everything was.
The care to both Mom and myself and my family was outstanding. I cannot thank everyone enough. They all helped me through so much pain, there are not enough words, an enormous thank you.

A friend of mine was in Harpers Field Care Home for two/three years and during all that time she was treated with respect, dignity, love and care. I really couldn’t fault any member of staff, they all treated her with so much care, and as I was her next of kin they would notify me of any concerns or
worries that they had. I felt that everyone who worked at the home went beyond the call of duty to ensure that all residents were safe and happy. Undoubtedly one of the best care homes I have ever experienced.

My husband has been a resident of the Warwick Unit for five months. He has settled well and all his visitors say what a lovely, friendly and bright atmosphere is present throughout the home. His increasing care needs are continually met with kindness, compassion and care. The staff at Warwick Unit do
all they can to help keep him safe, well and happy and we are happy that we chose this home for him.

Mum has been a resident for nine months now, I come in every day to help out with dinner, so I get to know the ladies and gents quite well. All the staff are lovely and make it easy for me to be around, I don't ever feel like I'm in the way. I have no concerns about Mum's care needs as I can see they
are all met, from washing to feeding to the nursing side as well.
I came in last week and was asked to speak to a guy from the local authority who was doing an assessment, by the time I came out, the staff had been into Mum and sorted her dinner for me, this sums up for me what the staff are all like. So it's a big thank you from me for all the hard work.

I'm so glad Mum is here. The staff are all so kind and whenever I visit they make me really welcome, however busy they are. The whole ethos of the home is led from the top down and is so professional. They combine love and care with clinical excellence, in a way which reassures me so much, I have no
worries about Mum. Mum is so happy here and always so happy to tell me about what she's done when I go and visit her. Thank you to each and every one of you.

My mum suffers from dementia and moved into Harper Fields Care Home in early summer, 2022. After looking at several other care homes first, we knew Harper Fields was the perfect place for Mum the moment we stepped through the front door. Every member of staff was so welcoming and all Mum's fears of
care homes disappeared from the first day. We saw an incredible transformation in her in just the first week of her being there.
As Mum is medium-stage dementia the staff felt she would be best in the residential area called Kempton. Mum has been so happy, so well cared for and so entertained! She enjoys all of the activities and walks around the beautiful site. She has a lovely room and the facilities are so clean.
Most of all, the Kempton staff are absolutely wonderful - so approachable, caring and friendly.
For the family, myself, my brother and sister - we no longer need to worry about our mum - we know she is happy and well cared for - we can't recommend Harpers highly enough.

On the whole our experience has been fairly satisfactory. I think there are issues where I believe staff should intervene to secure a more satisfactory outcome for the resident, such as washing, showering, etc., but this is not always done because of the rigid non-interventionist policy if assistance
is declined. This means that the resident may be late in rising and perhaps missing out on a meal, or some other signal moment in the day. There could be more emphasis on activities and stimulation, but I appreciate that this can be challenging and difficult. Sometimes the resident's clothes are not always their own and this can be a little disconcerting too. I genuinely believe some staff are better than others, but I suppose this criticism could apply to any organisation or institution. Everywhere is kept clean and tidy considering the type of resident being cared for. I cannot give an absolutely glowing review as I think there are certain areas requiring further improvement.

Regarding your areas of concern over personal care, you are right, it is an extremely difficult situation at times when a person is non-compliant to assistance, we do have methods we use for our residents living with dementia but if you feel this is not working as well as it should we will ask our Dementia care specialist for support in exploring other methods of persuasion without compromising the person's safety and ensuring we do not raise any anxieties. We take great pride in our recruitment selection and receive very positive feedback about our team, if ever you have any specific feedback regarding a team member please do let me know. Lovely staff, nice communal areas. Visitors can make a drink or pay to have lunch with a resident they are visiting. The residential rooms looked really nice (though our relative did not end up in there).
The downside is that the nursing rooms look much more worn and are not to the same standard as
the residential side.
The food on offer wasn't as good as it should be. Eg. our relative had omelette and wedges for one meal and another was fish fingers and beans. These aren't the kind of food we expected her to be provided and they aren't the kind of thing she would have wanted to eat. In my opinion, you can't call those things a meal, certainly not a balanced nutritious one.
Also, an issue is that even though nursing care is supposed to be provided, they did not provide actual nursing interventions (such as fitting a cannula or catheter).
We expected the level of care to be better for the cost.

We are sorry to hear you were disappointed in elements of your Great Aunt's stay. Rooms are regularly re-decorated. We aim for all rooms to be of the same high standard, I do take on board our nursing community has a different feel due to the nature of care required. I will review all rooms on our nursing community. Lunch is our main meal and has a choice of meat/fish, veg option and veg or salads, pastas etc. Evening meal options are a lighter meal and on occasions fish fingers, chips etc are offered. Residents can also choose homemade soups, salads or sandwiches plus soft or specialist diets are catered for. We are sorry our meals did not meet your expectations. Our chefs ensure menus offer a balanced diet across a week. Our nurses support in many specialised tasks and nursing care needs, we utilise skills of district and specialist nurses for the well-being of our residents. Apologies we did not have the opportunity to talk through these concerns with you prior to your Aunt leaving our care.

The care is above and beyond expectations, and the kindness they show to my grandma, we will forever be grateful for. All the staff has made Grandma feel that welcome from the moment she

Our dad has settled in really well at this care home after needing to move him from his last place, as they could not meet his needs. When I visit, I always find the staff most pleasant, and they all know my dad's name. To me, it feels like they’ve made the effort to know him.
I’ve sat back and relaxed
and thought about the review that I’m giving.
The reason I can sit back and relax is I know my dad is at this home being looked after so much better than in his last care home, where my sister and I were in constant worry.

Dad moved to Harper Fields in November 21 after his previous home was struggling to meet his needs. Whilst Dad was in the hospital, we viewed many homes, but something about Harper Fields stood out, and we knew we wanted Dad to be part of the community here. I am always kept up to date regarding my
dad. The staff were fabulous getting him settled in. My dad can be quite a tricky character, and the staff are great at diverting his attention. All the staff at Harper Fields, management, nurses, carers, maintenance and more, seem to know the names of all the residents, and they always take the time to acknowledge and speak to my dad, which I can see makes him feel special. Dad's weight has become a concern over the last few weeks, and the nurse has kept me updated with a plan to manage it. It’s lovely to visit the unit, as the staff know me by name, and I equally have gotten to know some of the other residents. It’s a lovely family/community, and the events that are held are wonderful for all. A big thanks

On Sunday, I attended a Jubilee celebration dinner with my mother arranged by the activities coordinator at the care home. The atmosphere was fantastic; the residents were all engaged with the entertainment, and the chefs, care staff, and volunteers worked tirelessly to look after the residents and
their guests. I have no idea how the chefs managed to serve hot food to so many in a marquee, and they even made me a special vegan meal. Having a family member present for the Jubilee celebration meal made it more special for my mum and a memorable occasion for myself. Thank you, Barchester Harper Fields, for a truly treasured day to remember with my 96-year-old mum.

My gran has early-onset dementia and has recently moved from a residential ward to memory lane. All the staff have been tremendous and have made the planning, the moving and the settling down as easy as can be. My gran continues to praise the staff and facilities and she is happy and comfortable. I

I have just had 3 weeks of Respite care at Harper fields, Kempton unit, my second time here. I will definitely be back again. During a very difficult time of a Covid outbreak in other units, which caused a lot of disruption restricting movement within the home. All the regular staff are brilliant. Residents
are nice and friendly and welcoming to all new residents. Barchester are very lucky to have these staff representing the home, as the agency staff that have had to cover for covid sickness are hit and miss in comparison to the regular staff, but essential in these difficult times. Highly recommended for the care of all that need it. Take some time to check it out.
