Monkscroft Care Centre offers up to 80 residents compassionate, individualised dementia, nursing and respite care in a modern, comfortable environment. Opened in 2012, the home is located in a residential area of Cheltenham and has good access to the A40 and M5.

With your comfort and well-being in mind, this welcoming home is designed around four 'households' and has a hair salon, music room and cinema. You will find somewhere to relax or socialise with family and friends from your own spacious bed-sitting room, with en-suite facilities, to communal lounge and dining areas which are light, bright and comfortable.

Interesting scents, shapes and colours are provided all year round in their landscaped gardens. There are raised planting beds so you can join in the gardening activities if you so wish. To give you the support you need when you need it, a friendly, professionally trained team are on hand around-the-clock to support you in how you wish to spend your day enabling you to continue a fulfilling and independent lifestyle.

Dedicated Activities Coordinators organise a varied programme of events around each individual's requests, hobbies and interests. The team will be delighted to assist you to continue with existing pastimes, as well as give you the opportunity to try something new if you would like to. They make sure everyone is able to enjoy themselves to the fullest, be that with arts and crafts, a coffee morning or more individual pursuits. Visits from outside entertainers happen regularly and there is a cosy cinema. The home has access to a Trust minibus.

A talented cook and kitchen team prepare tasty, home-cooked meals. The freshly prepared, delicious dishes are carefully balanced to get the best nutritional value and take into account individual dietary requirements and preferences. Seasonal produce is chosen whenever possible and of course, relatives and friends are always welcome to join.

    services, they will tell you how much these goods and services
    will cost and they expect that you will pay for these goods and
    services at the time you request them.
    They can accompany loved ones to private appointments,
    however the fee attached to this is £21 per hour. Where private taxi
    services are used for transportation to appointments the cost should
    be paid for by yourself.

My brother is at Springbank Ward and is very well looked after. The staff on that ward go over and above to care for him. My only criticism is, no one in reception at weekends. You can wait ages before being admitted to visit.

Dad has been in the home for over two years now, it's like home from home. The staff go above and beyond, mym mum visits dad every day and they make her so welcome and dad is looked after so well.

My dad spent 6 months at Monkscroft where he was given loving care and respect throughout his time there. We cannot thank the Monkscroft team enough (across management, reception, cleaners, handyman, carers and nurses) for everything they did to make my dad's time there as enjoyable and comfortable
as possible. All the team made my dad and all of us feel so welcome and part of a wider caring family, and all the team went well beyond just doing their job. I cannot thank the amazing team for everything they have done for us and my dad over the last 6 months and for the friendships we have made.

Monkscroft Care Centre has a very welcoming feel about it and you soon feel that you are part of a big family. Everyone is so friendly and always ready to reassure you and you feel they really care about the residents and their families. My husband has quite complex needs and the staff go above and
beyond to help him - nothing is ever too much trouble. When I leave, I know I am leaving him in safe hands. He's always treated with dignity and love.

Mum has been a resident here for 20 months. We chose Monkscroft as previously my brother spent his last days here. Our family were so pleased with the care he was given which to us there was no other choice. We are so pleased with everything that happens in Monkscroft. All of the staff are very welcoming
and friendly with all of my family and me. We are so pleased she's here.

Mum lived here from July 2022 - September 2023 when she passed away. The home is professionally run and the staff are knowledgeable, well-trained, friendly, caring and patient. Although there are some new faces over her time there, in my opinion, staff turnover seems low and suggests it’s a happy ship.
There have been a couple of issues and they were handled well, although one took a while longer than I would have hoped, I’m satisfied that improvements were put in place.

I found Monkscroft Care Centre to be a wonderful place to be at, my wife received the best care attendance for the short time she was there. It was beyond the bounds of excellence, the care and kindness was second to none. It has a welcoming elegance and the staff, right from the maids to nursing staff,
could not do enough for the residents that are in there. The food was well cooked and plenty of it if you wished. General areas were spotlessly clean and tidy. My wife died while in there and they were kind, considerate and helped me and my family through a difficult time. I cannot praise this place high enough.

We are very happy with the care provided by Monkscroft Care Centre. The staff here are very friendly and caring while remaining professional at all times. They are helpful and considerate of Mum's needs, both mentally and physically. The home is very clean at all times, and all rooms are fresh and spacious.
The activities provided throughout the week have helped Mum considerably, especially helping her to form friendships and interact with others. We always feel comfortable and relaxed when visiting mainly due to the staff's friendly and positive attitude and the open hours of visitation. The home is the best we could have hoped for. We would definitely recommend it to anyone.

The room is very nice with a lovely view of the garden and sunshine. The staff are very nice, friendly, kind and considerate - all of them. They always have a smile. Care is good, and prompt response to my bell calls. The place is clean and modern, and the food is nice. It has a happy atmosphere.

My husband after spending 4 months in hospital was discharged to Monkscroft for assessment of future needs. It was decided after the initial assessment that my husband would need long-term residential care. This was a very worrying time for us as a family but the care, support and help that was given
to us all by the staff at Monkscroft was second to none. Unfortunately at that particular time due to there being no vacancies at Monkscroft for full-time care, it looked like we would have to look for an alternative care centre. During this very stressful time again the support we see all given by staff was much appreciated. When we were told that a vacancy had arisen and my husband was able to stay at Monkscroft it was like a huge weight lifted off our shoulders. My husband has settled in very well, all the staff treat him with the utmost respect and patience. We as a family myself our son and young grandson could not be made more welcome whenever we visit.

Mum was admitted to the care sector after a stay in hospital. She was in another home for assessment and we searched for a home nearer to the family. We looked at many homes and found Monkscroft. At first, Mum was very unsettled as she had moved from a 3-bedroom house with a large garden and many memories.
All staff were very patient with her for many weeks and slowly she became used to them and accepting of the fact that she could not take care of herself at her own home. During the time that Mum was getting used to being in Monkscroft, I had a few concerns which were dealt with promptly and efficiently by the correct people. I love that the manager and other administrative staff are all so available so it is easy to reach the correct person to speak to. Monkscroft is now Mum's home and she has asked for more and more of her belongings to be brought in. The care staff have now got to know her quite well (she is a very complex woman) and the care given is second to none.

I miss having my wife at home with me but I know she is very well looked after at Monkscroft Care Centre. The staff are so friendly and the nursing care is superb so I don't need to worry about that.

You always have doubts about the transfer of your mother from hospital to a care home, especially, leaving her beautiful home. I had everything planned for the care home I wanted mum to be placed in. I had no choice at first because Brokerage placed mum for an assessment at Monkscroft Care Centre in
Shelly Road but I shouldn't have worried. The feelings, the surroundings, and the atmosphere is lovely and mum and I were made very welcome. This was the right place for mum, so you can gather this is mum's new home.

Wanted to leave this review to reflect the excellent care that my father-in-law received. He had cancer so was taken into Monkscroft for palliative care. Such a very hard time, so sad and scary. All the nursing staff and everyone at the care home were lovely and welcoming. The rooms are big and the
communal rooms are bright and kept immaculately clean. His care was impeccable, I cannot thank the manager and her team enough and would recommend Monkscroft to anyone who finds themselves looking for great care for a relative or friend. Thank you all.

The care at Monkscroft is second to none. My mother, 18 months ago, and my father just recently, were treated with the utmost respect and kept comfortable and safe at the end of their lives. Their care and concern extended to me and my family. The staff went above and beyond what anyone would expect,
staying way after their shift ended when it was obvious my father was in his last hours. I cannot thank them enough.

Doreen

Doreen Paisley

Job Title: General Manager

Joined: 2019

The residents at Monkscroft Care Centre are cared for by a highly dedicated and professional team of approximately 130 employees which includes Nurses, Care Leaders, Carers, Administrators, Housekeepers and the Catering Team. They are all led and supported by the General Manager, Deputy Manager, Head of Dementia Care and the Senior Nurse Team.
Doreen is a Registered Nurse with more than 25 years’ experience managing healthcare services in the public, private and charity sectors in Nursing, Dementia and Mental Health homes.
Prior to joining the Orders of St John Care Trust as the Monkscroft Care Centre General Manager, Doreen managed a similar large service consistently rated GOOD by CQC.
As well as a qualification as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Doreen holds a Registered Managers Award. She has completed numerous courses covering all aspects of caring for older people including dementia and palliative care.
Doreen brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in Elderly and Dementia Care to her role. She is committed to supporting the staff to deliver person-centred care to ensure that the people who live in the home continue to lead fulfilling lives.
Outside of work, Doreen enjoys travelling around in her motorhome with her family and dogs, and arts and crafts.


Lynne

Lynne Donaldson

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Joined: 2001

Lynne has worked in the care sector for many years and has been a valued team member at The Orders of St John Care Trust since 2001.
Lynne has completed extensive training including NVQ Level 2 in health and social care, Level 3 in dementia awareness and Level 3 in safeguarding and the Care Leadership Programme. Lynne enjoyed completing the Dementia Leadership Award with the 2gether Trust in 2018 and supported the team in gaining Dementia accreditation for Monkscroft's Redgrove household in Feb 2019.
Lynne started her career as a night care assistant, soon becoming a care leader, then progressed to Head of Care and more recently head of dementia care at Monkscroft before her promoting to Deputy Manager in November 2020..
Lynne has a passion for learning new skills and improving her knowledge and she has demonstrated a strong track record of leading dementia care in a sensitive and professional manner, Lynne ensures all the residents are treated as an individual, having empathy and an understanding while supporting them with therapeutic approaches. Lynne loves that she can help residents keep their own identity and interests ensuring they can still enjoy an independent and fulfilling life.
Lynne prides herself on her communication skills, her caring nature and she is always looking to go above and beyond to help and support our residents and her team.
Lynne’s proudest moment was being awarded the chairman’s commendation for meritorious service in 2017, Leader of the year staff Awards 2018, and becoming a Finalist GCPA Awards for Dementia Care 2019.
Lynne enjoys spending her free time with her family and spoiling her Granddaughter.


Susan

Susan Barrass

Job Title: Head of Dementia Care

Joined: 2007

Susan's employment with OSJCT started as Head of Domestic in 2007. She then became a Carer, followed by a Care Leader which led to her current position of Head of Dementia Care. Susan has completed broad training which includes NVQ Level 2 & 3 in Health and Social Care and completed a QCF Level 3 in Dementia Awareness. 


Susan thoroughly enjoyed the Dementia Awareness course in 2020 as it provided her with the knowledge, understanding and ideas to implement the care she delivers to the residents at Monkscroft. Susan is a Dementia Link Worker and is always willing to answer any questions about Dementia. 


Susan has lots of enthusiasm to learn new skills and to improve her current knowledge. She strives to deliver high standards of care to the residents whilst maintaining dignity and respect. Susan us a very sensitive and understanding person who ensures she supports the residents in a personable way and always looks for ways to improve the lives of the residents. 


Susan has great communication skills and great relationships with families who are always thanking Susan for her hard work and dedication. Susan is a well-liked colleague and is known to having a good rapport with the team. She is a "go to" individual. 


Susan has many achievements that she is proud of, one is receiving the Chairman's Commendation Award for Meritorious Service in 2016 and being nominated for Leader of the Year. 


In her spare time, Susan enjoys spending time with her granddaughters, watching tennis, reading and loves the Harry Potter franchise. Susan was very proud to take part in the Alzheimer's society walk in 2018 with fellow colleagues to raise money for dementia awareness. 


Sarah

Sarah Davis

Job Title: Activities Co-ordinator

Joined: 2017

Sarah joined the Trust in May 2017 after studying Occupational Therapy at University and values the importance of person-centred care. Sarah likes to discover people’s interests and build relationships with residents and families which continues to support a positive community within and outside of Monkscroft. Sarah is also the Cheltenham representative for the ‘Gloucestershire Meaningful Activity and Wellbeing Network’ and has a passion for providing meaningful and engaging activities that supports the wellbeing of residents.
In Sarah’s spare time, she enjoys attending theatre shows and spending time with friends and family.


Emma

Emma Lomas

Job Title: Administration assistant

Joined: 2018

Emma is an experienced Administration Assistant who has achieved BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Business & Administration and is hoping to work towards Level 3, Emma has also achieved an Ultimate Customer Service Training certificate as well as qualifications in ICT. Emma loves helping people and making a difference to our resident's lives. Emma joined the team in June 2018 and has never looked back, she thoroughly enjoys working alongside the rest of the team at Monkscroft to provide the highest standard of care to their residents. Emma is passionate about creating a welcoming and friendly environment for the residents and their families, as well as building lasting relationships. In her spare time, she enjoys going on walks and spending time with her family and friends (and her cat!).
