Mum’s ward is getting a new kitchenette installed in the existing day room. That has meant her and the other residents being confined to their rooms for 4 weeks. 4 weeks - so far, of isolation. I’ve never seen any staff interact with mum other than dropping off food.
Mum is filthy, covered in food
and with food over her floor that remains from one meal to the next. She can’t use cutlery and uses her fingers to eat, but as her condition has gotten worse the staff haven’t kept up with the level of support she needs to eat. Food just turns to crumbs in her hands and then she’s left to sit in it.

My father when into Conway suite and quickly declined. He has dementia and there were no activities or stimulation at all. He was there for 3 months.
Dad was not shown any respect or care, staff were even at times rude to visitors.
The final straw came when dad was wheeled to his room for our visit
and he smelled bad! I checked him and found faeces on his fingers. Dad is not mobile so he must have done it in bed the night before, meaning he ate breakfast with dirty hands and also meaning that he was not checked or washed that morning. I obviously lodged a complaint and received an acknowledgment outlining complaint timescales. I've heard nothing more and their timescales have passed! That shows how much they care for residents. Dad is no longer there thankfully. Please do not put a loved one in there.

Yet again I have had to wash my father's hands and face.
The lack of basic hygiene care and respect for my father who has Alzheimer's is absolutely disgusting.
No comment cards as of a week ago, five hand sanitisers, only one with hand sanitisers in it.
Can not wait for our father to get home.
No
stimulation either for the residents in the Alzheimer's/Dementia suite, all he does is sit was his comment. Totally disgusted.

Home is clean and tidy. My mother receives good care. She especially enjoys the activities - the coordinator is very good at her job.
I was extremely shocked to get a letter in December 2018 to say the fees were going up £40 per week - perhaps a month, but a week - really shocking! Food should be
like that on a cruise as that is what my mother is paying.

Thank you for your feedback in relation to Blair House Care Home, your comments really are welcomed. We have taken your views on board. We have recently put a new menu in place, which we will be reviewing on a regular basis. Regarding the fee uplift, although this is a confidential matter, it would not equate to an increase of £40 per week. As an organisation, we are committed to providing the highest quality of care in order to make a real and lasting difference for everyone we support. Thank you again for taking the time to provide us with valuable feedback.

My mother has been a resident at Blair House for over two years and seems to have settled well.
She is kept clean and attends the hairdresser every week.
For a 93-year-old with multiple needs, I am very happy to leave Mum in the care of Blair House.

The staff at Blair House are helpful and thoughtful and kind and always ready to listen to requests regarding my brother.
He has sight and hearing difficulties and does not always have a full understanding of the surrounding difficulties in staff working.
At the same time, he does, as I do, appreciate
all the time and help given.
Thank you so very much.

My review is for Strangford unit, residential only. My mother has Alzheimer's and it was important that the unit was as homely as possible. We were able to personalise her room and it was essential that there was an en-suite as my mother values her privacy. Her room and the unit generally is kept clean
(no smells of urine). The staff are mostly permanent. This enables residents to trust. Shortage of staff and temporary staff can cause even more confusion and agitation for people with dementia. Relatives are treated with respect.

My 95-year-old Father-in-law became unwell recently and needs lots of extra care, he needs to be fed, washed, toileted and 24 hour supervision because of a tendency to climb and/or because of a history of falls. The care he receives in the home is excellent. He has been bed bound for 1 month and has
had the best care I have ever seen. The staff are professional, caring and hard working. Dad could not be in a better place to spend his last days. Well done Blair House.

Exceptional care, dignity and support from all. Care for all-round needs. Emotional support for all the family during the lowest points. My husband has been in this home for 2 years and has had a full life with EMI care has been kept stimulated and made to feel part of the family atmosphere. He is 'passing'
at present and the care, respect, dignity has been above 100%

Current Review Score: 1.8 (1.833)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 1.8 (1.833) out of 10 for Blair House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 1.8 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 0.0 out of 5 from 0 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 1.833 for Blair House is calculated as follows: ( (2 Goods x 4) + (4 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 1.833

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 0 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Blair House is based on 0 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) =

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 28 registered maximum number of service users is 5.6. 0 Positive Reviews ÷ 5.6 = 0

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
